ried Tuesday, August 23, in a
ceremony held at the home of

road. The bridegroom's parents
are Mr. and Mrs. James John
Small, St. Albans, Long Island,
New York.

0 The bride was attended by her
two sisters, Miss Phyllis and

ride's brother, Christopher Wil
ms, was best man for Mr.
Small. Dayton O. Williams,
Klamath Falls, gave his niece in
Carriage.
G The bride's gown was of
white Chinese taffeta fashioned
$ith a panel in the skirt front
$hich was embroidered in color
with pansies and lilies-of-the
felley. The material for the
dress was given to the bride by
her grOt-aunt, Mrs. Margaret
Burrell Biddle of Santa Barbara,
Calif. The material had been
bought to Mrs. Biddle about 60
years ago by, her brother, Her
man Burrell, on his return from
a iftyage around the world in the
sailing ship, Colona.
The bride's ( bouquet was a
ifesegay of white rosebuds and
violets. At times during the re
ception she also held a fan of
embroidered white satin and
sansdown, another gift from
Ulrs. Biddle, which had belonged
tS Mrs. Biddle's mother. Her
hSirloom lace handkerchief was
l$tned to her by her cousin, Mrs.
John Del Val, Oregon City.
For the wedding and recep
tion Miss Phyllis Williams wore
a froch of champagne colored em
broidered organdy and her bou
quet was a nosegay of briarcliff
rosebuds in deep pink.
Miss Rhoda Williams wore a
dress of lavender and white
dotted Swiss embroidered with
sprays of lilacs, andher nosegay
was of golden gypsy rosebuds.
The bride's mother wore a dress
of grey crepe with lace inserts
dyed to match the crepe.
The wedding was followed by
a luncheon for members of the
bridal party, and other guests
were Mrs. O Ferrall Knight,
Estacada, Ore., aunt of the bride,
and the Rev. Mr. Bolster.
The wedding -reception was
held later in the afternoon. As
sisting were Mrs. George Car
penter, Mrs. Berthold Barnum,
Mrs. Fred Carr, Mrs. Harold Jor
dan, Mrs. Royal E. Bebb, Mrs.
Rawles Moore, Mrs. Sprague Rie-

To Be in City
For Convention
The visit here of Mrs. Glenn G.
Hays, Ransom, Kan., national
president of the Woman's Chris
tian Temperance union, is an
ticipated by members of the local
union. She will be here in con
nection with the 72nd annual
Oregon state WCTU convention
to be held here September 7, 8
and 9.
Mrs. Hays will arrive here
from Long Beach, Calif., where
she will attend a national WCTU
convention.
Sessions will be conducted at
the First Methodist church. A
banquet will be given Wednes
day evening, September 7 in the
church social room, with Mrs.
Hays as the main speaker.
Reservations for the banquet
should be made soon either with
members of the local union or
by calling Mrs. Mabel Houck,
telephone 2-2980.
About 125 delegates are ex
pected.
Mrs. Guy Cox, president of the
local union, is the convention
chairman.
Mrs. Ruth Tooze, Portland,
state president, will preside for
the meetings.

crest road, has returned to Med
f ord after spending the past sev
eral weeks in Los Angeles with
her son and - daughter-in-law,
Mr. and Mrs. Burdette Dodge
Jr.. and their children.

Mr. and Mrs. Small are travel
ing along the northwest coast to
Victoria, B.C, for their wedding
trip and will be at home
in Seattle, Wash., after Septem
ber 5. The bride was graduated
from Medford High school and
received both her bachelor's and
master's degrees from the Uni
versity of Oregon. She attended
the Sorbonne in Paris for her
junior year. The bride taught
French and Spanish at the Col
lege of Idaho last year.
Mr. Small received his bache
lor's degree from Kansas State
college and his master's from the
University of Oregon. He is with
Young, Richardson, Carleton and
Detlie, architects and engineers
in Seattle. While working for his
master's degree at the Univer
sity of Oregon, Mr. Small was an
instructor in the School of Archi
tecture and Allied Arts.

In Nevada
Mr. and Mrs. Philip Sanders,
whose wedding was an event of
August 14 in Eugene, left Med
ford Tuesday for Reno, Nev,
where they will live.-Mr. San
ders will be technical director
for the Reno Litte theater the
coming season. '
Mrs. Sanders is the former
Wilma Sundahl, daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. William Arrendale of
Forbestown, Calif., and- Mr. San
ders is a son of Dr. and Mrs
Lloyd Sanders, 6 South Grove-
land avenue. The marriage cere
mony took place in Fairmount
Presbyterian church in . Eugene
at 7:30 o'clock in the evening,
with about 85 guests attending
The bride wore a ballerina
length gown of softly draped
French blue chiffon with hat of
the same material and matching
shoes. She carried a cascade of
yeuow roses centered witn an
orchid.
Mrs. Joan DeLap Pearce, Eu
gene, was honor attendant. She
wore a ballerina frock of pale
yellow crystalline with wide
standing collar and low neck
line. Her bouquet was of talis'
man roses combined with
salmon-pink gladiolus and her
headdress was. a circlet of yel
low roses. The bride had made
her own gown and that worn by
her attendant. The bridegroom's
mother wore a gown of wedge
wood blue silk organdy with
matching summer velvet hat and
shoes and corsage of pink rose
buds.
The bride was given in mar
riage by Horace W. Robinson,
director of the University of Ore
gon theater, and Ron M. Mor
gan was best man for Mr. San
ders. Ushers were Mark Tap
scott, Eugene, and Gordon How
ard, Roseburg.
The church decorations were
baskets of pale yellow gladiolus
with cream-colored candles.
Mrs. Ron M. Morgan was solo
ist for the ceremony.
An Informal garden reception
was held in the home of Mr. and
Mrs. Howard Ramey. Mr Ramey
is technical director of the Uni
versity of Oregon theater.
Mr. Sanders and his bride
spent a honeymoon at Yachats
and Oregon beaches.
The bride was graduated from
Chico State college, - receiving a
degree m language arts in 1953,
and then entered the University
of Oregon on an assistantship in
costumes. The bridegroom, a
graduate of Medford High
school, attended Reed college,
studied under Angus Bowmer
at Southern Oregon college and
later attended the University of
Oregon, taking a degree in 1953.
Both Mr. and Mrs. Sanders were
active in the University theater,
and both did graduate work last
year at the university and will
complete their theses for mas
ter's degree in the near future.
All the couple's attendants were
co-workers in the university
theater. . '

Wedding Held
At Base Chape!
Of unterest here is news of the
wedding August 16" of Miss
Anna Martha Shirley, Bain
bridge, Ga., and Second Lt.
Richard J. Gordon. The cere
mony was held at the chapel of
Bryon Air Force base in Bryon,
Tex.
The bridegroom is a son of
Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Gordon, 1019
South Oakdale avenue, and his
family traveled to Texas for the
wedding. The bride's parents
are Mr. and Mrs. Claud Shirley
of Bainbridge. ' -
The ceremony was read at 10
o'clock in the morning and fol
lowed ceremonies at the base
during which the bridegroom
was graduated from the aviation
cadet program of the United
States Air Force and received
his commission. '
For . her wedding the bride
wore a white organdy gown and
carried white roses. A reception
followed in the Memorial union
building of Texas A and M col
lege. Lt. and Mrs. Gordon are now
stationed at Scott Air Force
base in Illinois and in December
are to be transferred to Anchor
age, Alaska. The officer was
graduated from Medford High
school and attended Oregon
State college before entering the
Air Force.
Mr. and Mrs. Gordon and chil
dren, Susan, Carl, Jim and Bob,
traveled by plane to Bryon to
attend the ceremonies. Mr. Gor
don and the sons , went by pri
vate plane and Mrs. Gordon and
their daughter went'by commer
cial air liner.

Tea Celebrates
80th Birthday
A tea Wednesday afternoon,
August 24, observed the 80th
birthday anniversary ,of Mrs.
J. W. Jacobs, 604 Pine street.
The event was held at the home
of . her son and daughter-in-law,
Mr. and Mrs. M. L. Jacobs, 29
Willamette avenue. Mrs. M. L.
Jacobs was the hostess and
about 25 frienrs of the honored
guest called between the hours
of 2 and 4 p.m.
Among the visitors were- a
number of the American Legion
auxiliary, the Wednesday Study
club and the Medford Garden
club, organizations in which
Mrs. Jacobs has been active.
She is the widow of the late
J. W. Jacobs and the couple op
erated the Bungalow grocery on
North " Riverside avenue for
many years. They came to Med
ford in 1908.
