Johnson To Visit
Ranch in Texas
Washington (U.PJ Senate
Democratic Leader Lyndon B
Johnson left today for a "rock
ing chair" vacation on his Texas
ranch.
He left it up to his physicians
to decide whether his heart con
dition will permit him to con
tinue as Democratic leader in
the second session of the 84th
Congress.
"I'm going to get a great big
rocking chair and just sit and
rock and think." Johnson told
newsmen at National Airport.
In December, he said, he plans
to go to Atlanta. Ga., and to the
Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn.,
for medical check-ups before
the second session begins.
"If the doctor gives me an
okay," he said, "I'll be back to
work in January. Whatever
thev decide, that's what I'll
follow"
The tall Texan, who will be
47 on Saturday, said he felt
good but expects to feel better
after two or three months of
rest on his ranch near Johnson
City, Texas. He said he weighed
183 pounds in contrast to the
200 when he entered Bethesda
Naval Hospital after suffering a
heart attack on July 2.
