Happy Is The Day
When Backache
Goes Away . . . .
Nafrpine backache, headache, or muscular
aches and pains may come on with over-exertion,
emotional upsets or day to day stress and
strain. And folks who eat and drink unwisely
sometimes suffer mild bladder irritation
...with that restless, uncomfortable feeling.
If you are miserable and worn out because
of these discomforts, Doan's Pills often help
by their pain relieving: action, by their sooth
ing effect to ease bladder irritation, and by
their mild diuretic action through the kidneys
tending to increase the output of the 15
miles of kidney tubes.
So if nagging backache makes you feel
dragjred-out, miserable, with restless, sleep
less niehts. don't wait, try Doan's Pills, get the
same happy relief millions have enjoyed for
over 60 years. Ask for new, larpre, economy
size and save money. Get Doan's Fills toda; I

WHY NOT CONSULT
AN OSTEOPATH?
Forty-eight years ago Dr. Joel
Goldthwait published (JAMA,
8-'31-'07) the first description of
sprain or strain of the sacro-iliac
joint. Prior to that time if the
possibility of movement at this
joint was recognized at all it was
recognized by the osteopaths.
Certainly Goldthwait's descrip
tion of sacro-iliac sprain or strain
was the very first in medical li
terature. Goldthwait's writings Irked
the big shots of the profession,
and they have never given him
credit for his contribution.
In 1920 (International Clinics)
Drs. P. B. Magnuson and J. S.
Coulter, describing the treatment
of sacro-iliac sprain or strain by
manipulation, made this remark
able comment:
"Unless the medical profes
sion wakes up to the fact that
our bodies are built on mechan
ical principles and that many
things that we have groped in
the dark about are due to a
mechanical fault . . . we are
allowing those, who are little
better prepared to practice med
icine than machanics, to make
cures where we have failed"
etc., etc.
The same old hokum bunkem
the medical myopes have been
spouting since Topsy was a colt.
It was in my horse-and-buggy
days that, with two other young
whippersnappers on the county
medical society's board of cen
sors, I persuaded a young osteo
path to apply for membership in
the county medical society. He
had passed the same state board
examination for license as had
one of the other censors. So, be-
Captain, Chief Mate
Die in Sea Saga
San Francisco (U.R) The
captain of a Navy transport and
the Chief Mate of an American
freighter died within a few min
utes of each other as the trans
port sped" to the stricken mate's
rescue, it was learned today.
The Military Sea Transport
Service said Capt. Harold S.
Sawyer, 62, of the transport
Gen. Daniel Sultan, and Chief
Mate Hans Hjelman, 57, of the
freighter Alamo Victory, appar
ently died of heart attacks.
Sawyer's ship was diverted in
the Pacific Ocean northeast of
Midway Island to rendezvous
with the Alamo Victory and take
Hjelman aboard for medical
treatment.
However, shortly before the
two ships were to meet Monday
night Hjelman died. The Sultan
was notified to resume its course
and a few minutes later Sawyer
died.
Sawyer was from Greenbrae,
Calif., and Hjelman from San
Leandro, Calif.
Appeal Filed in
Child Custody Case
Hillsboro (U.R) Mr. and
Mrs. Charles Remington, foster
parents of 9-month-old David
Casteel, have filed an appeal here
of a juvenile court order of Aug.
9 which awarded the child to its
parents in Aloha.
The Remington's have had cus
tody of the child since shortly
after his birth. They will retain'
temporary custody until a hear
ing on their adoption petition
is held Aug. 31.
Remington goes to trial Sept.
12 in district court on a charge
he committed riot when he took
the Casteel child from its nat
ural parent's home. The orgin
al parents had put little David
up for adoption and then changed
their mind.
ILL WINDS .
Lander, Wyo.. (U.R) Light
ning may not strike twice in the
same place, but that doesn't ap
ply to the wind. Three months
ago, Jim Anspach had a large
plate glass window smashed by
a gust of wind at his service sta
tion here. It cost him $100 to re
place it. It was windy again the
other day. Another window and
another $100 bucks.
