Shoulder Injured Leonard
Black, 21, route 1, box 28, Jack
sonville, suffered a dislocated
shoulder yesterday in a logging
mishap, according to a report
from Community hospital. He is
employed by the Skeeters and
Skeeters firm in the Prospect
area. Black was brought to the
hospital by Medford Ambulance
service.
Visitors Leave Mr. and Mrs.
Louis Combs, Sunrise, Wyo., left
Thursday morning after visiting
since Tuesday with Mr. and Mrs.
Job Berriman, Jacksonville. The
Berrimans formerly lived at Sun
rise and the two couples longtime
friends. "

Condition Good Leonard
Black, 21, Jacksonville, was in
good condition this morning after
receiving a shoulder injury in a
logging accident yesterday morn
ing. Black was working in the
Kiter creek area above Prospect
on a Skeeters and Skeeters oper
ation. He was taken to Commu
nity hospital by Medford Ambu
lance service.

Intersection Mishaps A truck
operated by John Joseph Lewis,

lided at the intersection of West
Main and Fir sts. yesterday aft
ernoon, according to city police
department records. Cars op
erated by Albert Roland And
drus, 3423 Altamont st., Klam
aht Falls, and Ethel Mary Nagle,
route 1, box 510, Central Point,
collided earlier at the intersec
tion of Riverside ave. and Mc
Andrews rd., records showed.
No injuries were reported "and
no citations issued, police said.
A parked car, registered to

land, Calif., was hit by a pick-up
truck operated by Benjamin
Frank Stone, 215 Haven st., on
12th st. between South Front
st. and South Central ave., po
lice added. No injuries were reported.

Ashland Services for Roy
David Watson Sr., 55, who vied
early yesterday morning, will
be held at Litwiller's Mount
View chapel at 2 p.m. Saturday.
Committal will be in the Mount
View Cemetery.
Mr. Watson resided at route
1, box 462, Talent. He was a
meatcutter and farmer. He was
well known in the valley, hav
ing lived here since 1943.
Mr. Watson was born at Ta
bool, Minnesota, on March 18,
1900. Survivors include his wife,
Bertha Joan Watson, three sons,
Roy and Earl Watson, Talent,
and Bob Watson, Coos Bay, and
two brothers, Cecil E. Watson,
Phoenix, and Chloe Watson,
Minnesota. He is also survived
also by seven sisters in Kansas
and Missouri and eight grandchildren.

judges consisting of three mem
bers of the Medford Active club
chose the queen to rule over the
Grants Pass Gladiolus festival

Grants Pass Fairgrounds. Miss
Sally Wallace of Grants Pass
was selected queen. Activians

Bad Checks Two bad checks
totaling $243 were reported to
the city police department yes
terday by Zerold William Lau
rine of Laurine and Dyke Inc.,
400 East Main st., after their re
turn from a local bank marked
"unable to locate" according to
city police records, drawn on the
First National Security and the
First Security banks, Salt Lake
City, Utah, were for $218 and
$25, respectivelv, police said.
Return Mr. and Mrs. Vincent
L. Swinney, and son Dick, 1478
Spring st., returned home this
week from a vacation trip to
Reno, Nev., where they visited
another son, Vincent G. Swin
ney, an airman third class sta
tioned there with the Air Force.
They were there about IV2
weeks .and then went to Lake
Tahoe. En route they stayed two
days at Lassen park and went
through Scotts valley and the
Trinity, alps.
Arrested Joy Thackston,
Colorado Springs, Colo., and
Bertis Dale Gibson, Clinton, 111.,
were arrested early yesterday
by city police officers on
charges of vagrancy, according
to police department records.
The two entered pieas of not
guilty . in municipal court this
morning and a hearing was set
Aug. 22 by municipal judge
James M. Main. They are pres
ently being held by city police
for investigation of another case.
Bail has been set at $100 apiece,
police said.

is expected to arrive from Chile
in time to attend the next meet
ing of the local squadron to be
held Monday evening, Aug. 22,
at Twin Plunges in Ashland.
Officers point out the change
in meeting place from the Med
ford airport.
Cadet Foust has arrived in
this country but has been de
layed in Mobile, Ala., because
of the hurricane, "Diane," ac
cording to information received
here by relatives. He has been
away for two months.
Those who attend Monday
night's meeting should take
admission fees and refreshments.

Robert Moore, a resident of this
community for many years, who

Teachers Needed
City school teachers now to the
area are in need of houses and
apartments for the coming year?
according to the school superin
tendent's office.
The school office said the
teachers are to be on duty Sept.
13 and will need housing well in
advance of that date.
Anyone able to help in the
matter is asked to call the super

school administration said co
operation will be greatly appreciated.

Climb Mt. Shasta
Six boys of Medford Boy
Scout Troop 7 of the Methodist
church recently scaled Mt.
Shasta, at times encountering
"30 mile per hour icy winds."
Scoutmaster Bob Hawkins, as

Harris, led the group up the
slopes. Roger Gallaci, Allan and
Jay Taylor, Larry Olsen, Don
Harris and Bob Hawkins were
members of the group who reach
ed the top.

Funeral services for Robert
Sutherland, 71, of Sardine Creek,
who died Thursday, will be held
in Conger-Morris chapel Satur
day at 11 a.m. with the Rev.
H. A. Dierdorff .officiating. Com
mittal will be in Rock Point
cemetery, Gold Hill.
The deceased was born Nov.
24, 1883, in Airdrie, Scotland,
and had lived in the United
States since 1909. He lived in
Portland from 1817 until his re
tirement "in 1948. He was mar
ried Nov. 29, 1923, in Ashland,
to Mary E. Newton, who sur
vives. He moved to Southern
Oregon in July, 1949, and he was
a life member of New Monkland

Other survivors include a sis
ter, Jessie S. F. Sutherla rA Cop
land, a niece and two nephews
