Ashland Eighty students
have completed requirements
for the Bachelor of Science de
gree in elementary , education
coring summer session at South
ern Oregon college.
Only seven of the graduates

others have had prior teaching
experience.
Graduation exercises and
awarding of diplomas will take

To Close Aug. 16-17
The local offices of the se
lective service system will be
closed Tuesday and Wednesday,

a meeting in Portland at which

enbush has sold her interest in
the Flycaster cafe, on Highway
99,, north of Gold Hill, to her
former partner, Mrs. Ward Gar
rett of Rogue River. Mrs. Gar
rett and Mrs. Quakenbush have
been operating the cafe since the
first of June.
,JIrs. Quakenbush is planning,
to feave soon for California to be
present for the departure of her
son, Cpl. Bart Quakenbush, who
is leaving for oversees duty with
the US Marine Corps. Mrs. Quak
elijbush will have no further con
niption with Flycaster cafe.
Mr. and Mrs.'Jim Parker have
had as visitors recently, Mr. and
Mrs. Russell Parker and daugh
ter Gail, Burlingame, Calif. Rus
sell is the son of Jim Parker.
Donald Parker, son of Mr. and
Mrs. Lester Parker, is nursing
two badly cut fingers he received
while working at the mill on

Portlander Killed
As Auto Hits Pole
Portland (U.R) One 17-year-old
Portland youth was killed
and two others were injured last
night when their car smashed
into a power pole at Jantzen
beach.
Dead was Ronald Siverson.
Taken- to Emmanual hospital in
serious condition were Robert
Dahlstrom and Dan Thorsnes.
Witnesses said the car drove out
of the parking lot and struck
the power pole, snapping an 11,-
000-volt feeder line and blacking
out lights along the Jantzen
strip.
Salem U.R) Funeral serv
ices will be held tomorrow for
Col. Elmer V. Wooten, Oregon
selective service director for
part of World War II, who died
at his home here yesterday.
