in his fourth appearance Tues
day night on CBS-TV's "S64.000
Question."
Next Tuesday night the Italian-born
Prato will make his
climactic appearance before the
TV cameras and announce his
decision.
Appears Tense
If he decides to continue and
answers the questions, he will
take home S64.000. If he loses, he
will win a Cadillac worth at
least S7.000 as a consolation
prize. If he feels he should not
go on. he will be permitted to
keep his $32,000.
Questioned after the show, the
little shoemaker appeared tense.
"Fine, fine, I feel fine," he said.
"And if you please I would like
to go home now."
Before leaving he made a good
natured plea for privacy. "You
people," he said, "please leave
me alone this week or I go batty.
And if I go batty, I can't answer
the question next week."
Win, lose or quit next week,
Prato has a surprise in store for
him. It was learned that officials
of the Metropolitan Opera in
New York would present Prato
next Tuesday with a pair of sea
son passes, eighth row center in
the Met's orchestra.
Applause From Audience
Prato, who spent part of Tues
day praying in St. Patrick's Ca
thedral, drew warm applause
from the studio audience Tues
day night when he announced
his intention of going for S32,
000. "The Lord has helped me all
through my life," he said, "and
I think He will help me now. I
think I will go on."
He took the full 30 seconds to
answer his long question: "The
name of the opera which launch
ed a pinch-hitting Arturo Tos
canini on his career ("Aida"), the
place in which Toscanini con
ducted the opera (Brazil), the
place in which the opera was
premiered originally (Cairo,
Egypt) and the name of the holi
day on the eve of which it was
premiered (Christmas.)

Dean Martin Wants

Hollywood (U.R) Dean Mar
tin said today he wants to end a
two-month-old feud with his
comedy partner, Jerry Lewis, to
preserve a $20,000,000 bundle of
contracts.
The curly-haired singer said
something has to happen soon
because he and Lewis are sched
uled to start a new picture next
month. A new television series
starring them also is scheduled
this fall.
The two comedy stars haven't
spoken for two months.
"To me, this isn't a love af
fair," said Martin, extending a
peace feeler. "This is big bus
iness. I think it's ridiculous for
the boy to brush aside such beau
tiful contracts."
But "no 'comment" was all
Lewis had to say.
"I don't want to break up the
team," Martin said. "It's a damn
fine living and I want to hold
onto it."
He said he feels they could
work together, regardless of per
sonal matters. "I know a lot of
people who work together and
go their separate ways after
ward," he added.
