tion, but if I were you I wouldn't
be too hopeful that it would do
the trick. In the long run you
would be better off if you broke
off with him and found someone
else who would treat you as a
man should treat a girl.
This young man is a bully
at heart, even if he does have
a better side. Once he gets what
he wants and he felt he had
that when you were willing to
go out with him after he slapped
you he will continue to bully
you. Should you be foolish !
enough to marry him. you can
look forward to more" of the
same treatment.
Even worse, the chances are
that he would treat any children
you had as he has treated you.

A Virginia correspondent tells
me in 2,000 words that I'm a
little mixed up about Aunt Pol
ly and Uncle Pete saying they
have found medicine that con
quers arthritis. It is John Doe,
M. D. and Robert Roe, M. D.,
who tell the world that first this
wonder drug and later that one
(cortisone, ACTH, etc.) will do
the trick.
(What I said was that t h e
trick specialists and "clinic"
racketeers tell Aunt Polly and
Uncle Pete that the new rem
edy gives great "promise"
and Polly and Pete see that the
story gets on the front page).
The Virginia correspondent
then consoles me by saying "I
am 100 per cent with you when
you say diet has considerable
to do with arthritis."
Not with me. Mister. I have
never said anything of the sort.
Evidently you have confused
some other's stuff with mine.
The only cause of arthritis, so
far as I can learn, is infection,
and a doctor who diagnoses ar
thritis and prescribes or. admin
isters treatment as though the
trouble were a specific disease
amenable to a specific remedy
is just stringing the Datient
along. If the doctor believes
there is chronic inflammation of
joint tissues (arthr-itis), the
least he can do is try to deter
mine what causes the inflamma
tion whether it is streptoc
occus, stphylococcus, tubercle ba
cillus, Treponema pallidum,
gonococcus. Brucella
pneumoc -
occus.
The Virginia correspondent,
having gone through the best
advertised "clinic," lost his teeth
and his tonsils, feels qualified
to instruct an ordinary doctor in
pathology and therapeutics.
Like many other Yankee Wise
acres who condescend to read
this column occasionally, this one
is so eager to teach me the facts
of life that he can't quite grasp
the distinction I make between
the real arthritis and the rheu
matiz. Real arthritis is joint in
flammation, as already explain

Wild DEW Line Troops
Halifax, N. S. (U.R) Two
United States warships headed
today up the coast of Labrador
to a secrecy-shrouded destina
tion in the Canadian Arctic.
The attack cargo ship Thuban
and the landing ship 880 left
Halifax during the week end
after taking on" supplies and
equipment for the distant early
warning (DEW) radar line in
the far north. They also car
ried troops who wili guard the
DEW line.
The ships are part of a great
armada of 117 United States
Navy ships which will move into
Arctic waters this summer to
take supplies, equipment and
men into the DEW line now un
der construction. Many of the
ships will be guided to their
destinations by the Halifax
based Canadian Arctic patrol
vessel Labrador.

National Jaycee convention by

loting in the organization's his
tory.'' Milwaukie, Wis., was picked

site. Final vote was 107 to 91.
