- Considering the sharpshooters
.1 have checking on me, it is a
wonder I have a stogie left to
"my name. I said Gene Tunney
'was the only heavyweight box
ing champion born in New York
-City. Not only have the afore-
mentioned sharpshooters inform-
I ed me rightly that James J. Brad-
dock was also born in New York
City, but they have furnished me
the street address of his birthr
place! Jim first saw the light of
day at 551 West 48th st., in the
borough of Manhattan. There
should be a commemorative tab
let on that building.

an herb called basil? It is said
.a potted basil will keep mosqui

vicinity. It is reported to be so

Greai Lovers , .
t Paris is. possibly the world's
most romantic city. However, the
great lovers chiefly responsible
for making it so are not French
men. Most of the tall, dark, hand
some romantic heart-throbs that
-make life extremely interesting
for women in Paris are men from
other countries. Commenting on
this, one woman of the world
said, "Most Frenchmen are too
short, shave too infrequently and
eat too much garlic to be truly
great and inspiring lovers."
Hard Labor
What do women believe best
rates the description, "hard la
bor"? How about scrubbing the
bathroom floor? Anyway, I be
lieve those feminine "scofflaws"
who ignore traffic tickets and
otherwise display disrespect for
the law, should be given prison
terms with "hard labor." Ninety
days of scrubbing floors might
make them better citizens. It is
disrespect for the law by adults
that breeds juvenile delinquents.
Asking
Queries from clients: Q. What
was the amount of Bo bo Rocke
feller's divorce settlement? How
long had the marriage lasted?
A. Divorce settlement referred to
was about $5,500,000. The Rocke
fellers had been married six
years but were separated for four
of those years. Q. Are you fa'
miliar with a poem including
the line: "If I can stop one heart
from breaking"? A. Yes, ma'am.
It is by Emily Dicklinson and
can be found in a copy of her
works..

Hypnotists 1 -
As for professional feminine
hypnotists, there is a smart look
ing young woman named Joan
Brandon so engaged who is quite
a hit on thetounty and State fair
circuits. Another woman similar

Manhattan. Lynne has hynotized
number of celebrities, among
them Artie Shaw. Haven't for
gotten Artie, have you? He's the
bandmaster who has been mar

mates including two movie stars,
Lana Turner and Ava Gardner.
Also the beautiful novelist, Kath

Horses & Women
Why are so many women pat
ronizing barber shops these days?
Can't they get the kmd of hair
cut they, want at beauty shops?
That's the question I asked. Am
informed that a popular current
hairstyle is called "shingled in
back." It seems barbers handle
this style more skillfully than
beauticians. Hence the current
female invasion of barber shops.

TONIC FOR THOUGHT
Buffalo, N.Y. The pharma

tonic; brewed from figs, plums,
grapes, wine, beer, yeast and
goose grease.' Except for the
goose grease it would still make
a potent tonic today. But the
Egyptians didn't drink it, ac
cording to a local pharmaceuti
cal manufacturer (the Arner
Co.). : They rubbed it on their
foreheads. 1
