Your Place in the Sun
A Kansan who says she is 54

summer if tan is beneficial to

The query will probably scan

who wrote regarding a statement

Phoenix Church Board
To Meet New Pastor
Phoenix A meeting of the
board of trustees of the Phoenix
Presbyterian church is ' set for
Thursday, July 14, at 7:30 p.m.,
in the church. This will be the
first meeting of the board since
the new pastor, Ernest Volkman,
arrived.
Ways and means of repairing
interior of the church will be
discussed.
A meeting of the Sunday
school teachers and officers was
held last Thursday when main
business of the session concerned
means of financing a delegate
for a leadership school to be held
next month in. Portland. Recent
ly Mrs. Al Morin entertained at
an afternoon tea with proceeds
given to the fund for this pur
pose. Hostesses for a coffee hour
next Sunday after church serv
ice will be Mrs. Roscoe Owens
and Mrs. Claude Hutton.
Zellerbach Sued for
Separate Maintenance
San Francisco (U.R) Mrs.
Judith Zellerbach sued her hus
band, James Zellerbach Jr., heir
to paper fortune, for separate
maintenance yesterday.
Mrs. Zellerbach, the former
Judith Hanlin Thurston, charg
ed her husband with extreme
cruelty. She said he walked out
of their Atherton home on Dec.
20 and never returned.
The. Zellerbachs were married
in 1848. It was the second mar
riage for each. They have two
adopted children, Judith Ann,
4, and Paul Edwin, 19 months.
Mrs. Zellerbach asked for the
community property, an allow
ance of $750 a month for herself
and $250 a month for the chil
dren, plus $10,000 in fees for
attorney J. W. Ehrlich. A show
cause hearing will be held July
21.

such ideas (I said Franklin used
to sit nude at his writing for an
hour or so before breakfast) "or

A San Francisco columnist
commented brightly on The 7
Keys to Vite (No. 16 Little Les
son, for which send 25c and
stampel, self-addressed envelope
though the San Francisco man
didn't procure his copy that
way), demolished three of the
seven keys in less time than it
takes to tell what they are, thus:
Temperance "one man's
opinion."
Belly Breathing "if we were
intended to breathe with our
stomachs why did we get
lungs?"
Nudity "you take off your
clothes and. walk arou nd in
mixed company. That's what
I thought nudity was. Also nu
dism." If the San Francisco comic and
the New England lady will con
sult Webster some time when no
body's looking they'll learn that
nudity means nakedness and nu
dism is a cult. And further re
search in a textbook of anatomy
or physiology, if this is not too
abdominal, would reveal that the
stomach is an organ in the abdo
men and the belly is the front
wall of the abdomen.
A few readers may recall a
dozen pieces in this column in
1937-38 about Odd House, a pro
ject disrupted by the threat of
World War n. We were elimina
ting door knobs, faucet handles
and the like when we were so
rudely interrupted. This San
Francisco commentator says
mine "seems like a mighty odd
household. People running
around bare, somersaulting and
breathing with their stomachs."
To the best of my knowledege
only one member of this house
hold actually does these silly
things and he does 'em in pri
vacy, except now and then when
he shows some poor old stiff how
to rolL
Maybe' you erudite laymen,
who (think you) know more than
I do about hygiene, health, phy
siology, pathology and therapeu
tics, agree with the commentator
that these and the other four
keys to vite are unworthy of ser
ious consideration. To me they
are well, the only medicine I'm
willing to take. If proper care of
the ' teeth, temperance, . natural
breathing, sun or air bathing,
daily exercise and a basic health
diet seem silly to you, let me say
that the aspirin, acetanilide, bar
biturate, benzedrine or alcohol
which so many misguided per
sons use on one pretext or an
ther doesn't seem silly to me
It seems dangerous.
