most of their calories from
sugar and flour. The refined
sugar and white flour nowadays
supply less than one-tenth of the
vitamin B-complex that the
brown sugar and or molasses
and the whole wheat flour from
which people prior to 1840 got
most of their calories. No amount

phase of Oregon's anti-polio vac
cination .program is 97 per cent
complete, according to the State
Board of Health.
Dr. Gordon C. Edwards, pre
ventive medicine specialist for
the board, said 43,121 eligible
Oregon children had received
their first shots in the three-shot
program.
Dr. Edwards said second shots
had been given to 9560 1st and
2nd grade children. The second
phase of the program was only
22 per cent complete..
Booster shots, final step in the
Salk vaccination program, had
been given to about 1063 child
ren. The booster shot was given
by private physicians.
The board -said Oregon has
had 63 cases of polia reported so
far. this year, compared with 46
a year ago. The heaviest inci
dence is expected to occur in
