At First Methodist Church
.'. Miss Venita Deloris Gardner became the bride June 17 of
Dick Ray Jack in double ring rites read at 8 o'clock in the eve
ning at First Methodist church. The Rev. Raymond . Balcomb
performed the ceremony which was attended by about 500 guests.

Church decorations were pink
gladiolus, white stock and or
chid daisies combined with
white candles and candelabra,
Small baskets of gladiolus and
daisies with ribbon and net
marked the ends of pews.
The bride was given in mar
riage by her father. She wore
a satin gown designed with ca
thedral train and long-sleeved
bodice trimmed with imported
lac and seed pearls on nylon
tulle. Her full length double
veil w as of nylon tulle edged
with Italian chantilly lace and
was held by a pearl beaded
crown of imported lace. She
carried a bouquet of white or
chids, valley lilies and step-
hanotis.
Mrs. Warren Fichtner of Eu
gene was matron of honor. Her
gown was of nile green net over
taffeta with lace bodice and
matching lace jacket and mitts.
She also wore a matching flow
ered headpiece and carried a
bouquet of pink carnations.
The bridesmatrons and
bridesmaids wore, matching
gowns in pastel shades with lace
jackets and mitts, and carried
pink carnations. Mrs. Richard
' Stratton and Miss Darlene Jack,
a sister of the bridegroom, wore
pink gowns, while Miss Shan
non and Miss Jannon Van Val-
zah were dressed in blue, and
Mrs. Clyde Hughes and Mrs.
.William Biddle, in orchid.
Mrs. Donald A. Faber and
Mrs. Jack Wolgamott were can-
dlelighters. They wore frocks
of pink net and lace with net
headpieces and .wrist bouquets
of pink carnations.
Linda Pittock, flower girl,
wore a floor length dress of yet
low net with net headpiece and
carried a yellow basket with
white rose petals. Billy Ficht
ner of Eugene was ring bearer.

best man and ushers were Don
ald A. Faber, Al Edwards. Bob
Wickman, Bryon Schroeder, Don
Hale and Harold Williams.

posed by the bride's great aunt.

ding of the bride's grandmother
and grandfather, Mr. and Mrs.

years ago.
The reception which followed

Baskets of white stock and deep
pink carnations decorated the
fireplace and baby rosebuds,
were placed on the mantel.
Other decorations were of can
terbury bells and roses.

At Friends Church
Mrs. C. C. Hoover installed of
ficers for both Howard Garden
club and Roxy Gardeners at a
joint ceremony held at the
Friends church June 28. The
new -officers were presented
with handkerchief corsages.
The two clubs met together
for a potluck. luncheon. Mrs. Don
Elliott. Mrs. O. L. Gaston, and
Mrs. Charles May were co-hostesses.
Mrs. A. O. Floyd, Siskiyou dis
trict director for Oregon Federa
tion of Garden clubs, was guest
of honor. Mrs. Floyd presented
the Howard Garden club a third
place award won by the group
at the state convention for hand

gown of aquamarine blue lace
and her accessories were in sil
ver. Her corsage also was a pur
ple orchid. -
Out-of-town guests included
Mr. and Mrs. LeRoy Farran and
son, Ronald, cousins of the
hride from Rupert, Ida.; Mrs.
Jane Keller, an aunt of the
bride, here from Fullerton,
Calif.; Mr. and Mrs. Thomas
Wood, aunt and uncle, Hunting
ton Park; Mr. and Mrs. Tom
Holmes, Marysville, Calif.; Bur-
nil Gober, and John Gober,
both of Klamath Falls; Mrs. E. B.
Larson, Seattle, Wash.; Gloria
and Billy Fichtner, Eugene;
Miss Pearl Easterling, and- Mrs.
Olie Easterling, and Mrs. Sam
McNair, all of Ashland.
The couple made their wed
ding trip to Canada.
The bride, who has lived in
Medford all her life, was gradu
ated from Medford Senior Hieh
school and later attended Ore
gon State college. The bride
groom is' a graduate of Hanlev
High school and Pierce Agricul
tural college, Canoga Park, Calif.
He served with the Navy three
years and is employed in the
parts department' at Skinners'
garage.
' The bride and her mother hon
ored the attendants at a brides
maid's tea June 14. and the re
hearsal party . for members of
the wedding party was held June

club will sponsor a nrosressive
dinner arid square dance Satur
day evening, July 16. Those at
tending will leave Robertson's,

at the George Bourne ranch near
Phoenix from 6 to 7 njn. The
salad course-will be served at
the home of Orvel "Tex" Nash
and Mrs. Nash on South Pacific
highway from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30
p.m. The main dish course will
be served at the home of Mr. and
Mrs. John Johnson on Orchard
Home court from 7:30 pjn. to
8:30 p.m.
Those who cannot be at Rob
ertson at 6 p.m. may join the
group at any of the above homes
in the stated hours.
Square dancing will start at
8:30 pan. at 40 North Riverside
avenue with Mrs. Leslie Robert
son calling and continue until
midnight when dessert and cof
fee will be served. Any square

Couple To Spend
Year in Sweden
Mr. and Mrs. H. A. Ramstrom.
304 North Ivy street, will leave
the Medford air port July 6 for
New York City from where they
will sail July 9 on the Swedish-
American liner SS Kungsholm,
for Sweden. They will stay in
Sweden for a year to visit rela
tives and friends and then re
turn to Medford.
Mr. Ramstrom has been em
ployed for the past four years
at Safeway Stores, Inc.

Vacation Trips;
Visitors Arrive
The long Fourth of July week
end finds scores of Jackson coun
ty residents away on vacation
trips, while others are entertain
ing visitors. Mountain and sea
shore recreation spots are crowd
ed with families on holiday out
ings, and others are attending
the traditional Fourth of July
programs planned by towns of
southern Oregon.
Mr. and Mrs. Gordon-Harcourt
Heaver, Beverly Hills, Calif., ar
rived Friday evening to visit
with Mrs. Heaver's parents, Mr.
and Mrs. T. J. Fuson, 2005 East
Main street.
Among holiday visitors in the
city are Mr. and Mrs. Lee Bowen
of San Pedro, Calif., who are
visiting Mrs. Bowen's parents,
Mr. and Mrs. Claude Demo, 106
Cottage street, and her brother,
and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs.
Rex Demo, 1181 East McAn
c'rews road. The men planned a
fishing trip to Four Mile lake
Friday and Saturday and today
the entire group went to the
coast.
Mr. and Mrs. Tom Dwyer Jr.,
and Mr. and Mrs. Sam Prough
will entertain this week end at
their camp at the Lake o' the
Woods. Mrs. Dwyer and chil
dren, Darelene, Dennis and
Michael, and Mrs. Prough and
children, Devonne and Shireen,
are spending several weeks at
the lake. ' ;
Mr. and Mrs. Fred Rolland,
Mallory lane, Shady Cove, will
spend the holidays at Diamond
Lake lodge, leaving Saturday
and returning Monday. They
also will visit at Toketee Falls
where Mr. Rolland is employed.
Mr. and Mrs. Martin May and
sons, Dennis and Lynn, Bar
nett road, will spend the week
end at their cabin on Carberry
creek.
- Mr. and Mrs. Richard Lehman,
Almond street, have gone to Se
attle, Wash., where they are
spending the week end holiday
with relatives.
Mr. and Mrs. A. Hunziker,
Mt. Prospect, 111., arrived
Thursday, evening to visit with
their son and daughter-in-law,
Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Hunziker,
and their grandson, John Mich
ael Hunziker, 719-B - Bennett
street. This is their first visit
with their grandson.
A. Hunziker is in the import
ing and exporting business in
Chicago, 111., and is making a
trip to the west on business.
They arrived here from San
Francisco and will continue to
Seattle.
Amelia Earhart
Awa rds Announced
By Zonta Clubs
Chicago Two Amelia Earhart
scholarships for graduate study
in the field of aeronautical en
gineering, will be awarded by
Zonta International for 1955,
The winners of the $1200 grants
are Mrs. Selma Carolina Swift
Teichmahn, Los Angeles, Calif.,
and Miss Doria Domenighetti, a
Citizen of Switzerland whose
family now lives in Milano,
Italy. This is the sixth time since
the Amelia Earhart Scholarship
was established in 1938 that two
winners have received awards.
The announcement was made
by. the chairman of the Amelia
Earhart scholarship committee,
Miss J. Winifred. Hughes,, Syra
cuse, New York, following ap
proval of the selections by the
zonta International board of di
rectors. The Amelia Earhart
Scholarship committee, accepts
the applications and selects the
winners of the awards which are
offered annually to qualified
young women engineers.
The Amelia Earhart Scholar
ship for graduate study in aero
nautical engineering was estab
lished by Zonta International in
1938 as its international service
project to honor the pioneer
woman aviator, Amelia Earhart,
a member of the Zonta club of
New York City, who dis
appeared in July 1937 while on
a flight around the world. She
was the first flyer ta attempt to
circle the globe at the equator.
The scholarship program is sup
ported by voluntary contribu
tions from the 11,600 members
of .310 Zonta clubs in 13 coun
tries: Canada, Chile, Denmark,
England, Finland, France, Ger
many, Iceland, Norway, The
Philippines, Sweden, Switzer
land, United States and the
Territory of Hawaii.
The Medford club, of which
Mrs. Effie Kurtz is president,
contributes each year to the Ear
hart scholarship funds.
This year's scholarships , bring
to r 18 the number of young
women who have been aided.

Mrs. W. J. Loar, Hawthorne
apartments, who has been an
employee of Mann's Department
store,, terminated her work there
Thursday and employees in her
department honored her with a
parting gift.
Miss Margaret Loar, Haw
thorne apartments, left today
for Santa Rosa, Calif., to 'vaca
tion for about 10 days with
former classmates.

Miss Houghton is a graduate
of Washington university and of
Central Institute for the Deaf
at St. Louis. Mr. Guldahl is an
exchange student from Norway
and attended Washington uni

To Wed in Fall
Mr. and Mrs. E. T. Schroll of
Portland have announced the
engagement of their daughter,
Miss Jean Shroll, to . Maurice
Pierce, Medford. The wedding
will . take place in Portland in
early fall.
Mr. Pierce, the son of Mr. and
Mrs. Clarence Pierce, Anderson
Creek road, is youth director for
Central Church of Christ, Port
land. He has attended San Jose
Bible college in California and
Northwest Christian college, Eu
gene. He plans to enroll in the
San Jose school next fall to
complete his course and grad
uate. Mr. Pierce and his finance are
spending the weekend in Med
ford with his family.

Dorothy Kirsten revealed today
she has become engaged to Dr.
John Douglas French, 44, . of
Long Beach, Calif., and will
marry the neuro-surgeon "soon.
Miss Kirsten said she met
French New Year's Day this
year.
"I'm very proud of my fiance
We wil be married soon, but as
yet we haven't set a date,"she
said.

Miss Lamp,
Frank Reich
. Zion Lutheran church was the
scene June 18 of the wedding
of Miss Joy Lamp and Frank
Reich. The Rev. G. H. Hillerman
performed the double ring cere
mony at 8 o'clock in the evening.
About 40 guests attended the
wedding and the reception held
after the ceremony. -
The bride is a daughter of
Mrs. Edna Lamp, 211 Vancouver
avenue, and has been employed
as a secretary at Roosevelt grade
school. The bridegroom s par
ents are Mr.' and Mrs. Fred
Reich, Camp White.
The bride s grandfather, Ron
ald Halverson of Big Timber,
Mont., was here to give her in
marriage. She wore a light grey
suit . and her flowers were a
colonial bouquet of pink roses.
Mrs. Ray Carnes, the matron
of honor, was dressed in a green
box suit with white accessories,
and Miss Laura Lee Stevenson,
the bridesmaid, wore an ivory
colored box suit with avocado
green accessories. Their flowers
were white iris.
Fred Reich, Springfield, a
brother of the bridegroom, was
the best man. Seating the guests
was Max McKinney of Eagle

Clarence Lamp, a brother of
the bride, was the candlelighter.
Red roses 'decorated the altar
and Miss Barbara Robinson fur
nished the wedding solos accom
panied by Timothy Hillerman,

The couple went to Redding,
Calif., for their wedding trip and
now are living at OlOVi West
11th street.
The bride attended Medford
Senior High School and the
bridegroom was a student at the
Eagle Point High school.

Home Rites Wed
Medford Couple
Mrs. Beulah Mault and Ray J.
Castle were married in a cere
mony held at the bride's home,
708 Vz West Fourth street, Sat
urday, June 25, at 7 o'clock.
Eleven guests were present.
The Rev. Elmore J. Gilstrap
officiated.
Mrs. Cora Calame attended
the bride, and Floyd Court
wright was best man for ' the
bridegroom. .'
A reception followed the
ceremony. The bride's daughter,
Mrs. William Hobson, served the
wedding cake ' and another
daughter, Miss Joyce Mault,
served punch.
. The bride wore a two-piece
ensemble of periwinkle blue
with corsage of a matching
orchid and white carnations.
The couple will live at 2075
Crestbrook drive. Mr. Castle is
employed at Siskiyou Memorial
park and Mrs. Castle -was for
merly on the staff of Adrienne's
store.
