Bender-Findley Wedding Held Saturday

First Presbyterian church, Med
ford. The bride is a daughter of
Dr. and Mrs. Dwight Findley,
Old Stage road, Medford; and
the bridegroom is the son of
Mr. and Mrs. Nathaniel B. Ben
der, 1941 Westerlund drive, this
city.
Dr. D. Kirkland West read the
double-ring rites at two o'clock
in the afternoon; The reception
followed at the Findley home,
with 300 guests attending. Later
in the day Mr. Bender and his
bride left by plane for a wedding
trip to Hawaii. The newlyweds
will be at home at 1162Vs
Franklin avenue after July 11.
The bride's wedding gown was
of white imported organdy
fashioned with close-fitting
bodice and bell-shaped bouffant
skirt, floor length. Her finger
tip length veil was held by a
circlet of eyelet embroidery and
she carred white rosebuds and
baby gladiolus.
Miss Jeanene Findley was
honor attendant for her sister.
Her frock was .of pink nylon
dotted Swiss with white daisy
braid at neck and waistline and
her headdress was of the braid
and white rosebuds to match her
c bouquet.
Bridesmaids were Miss Karen
Drury, Seattle, Miss Kathryn
McAllister, Miss Gail Bender,
sister of the bridegroom and
Mrs. Dennis Conner. Their pink
frocks matched that worn by the
honor attendant and their head
dresses were of the white daisy
braid and pink rosebuds. They
carried bouquets of pink rose
buds. Dr. Findley gave his daughter
in marriage and Dan R. Olson,
Seattle, Beta Theta Pi fraternity
brother of the bridegroom, was
best man. Ushers were Jack
Findley, brother of the bride,
Charles Wilson and Russel Fer
guson Jr., Seattle, and Howard
Onstott, San Francisco, the last
three being fraternity brothers
of the bridegroom.
Small Paul Wulf, cousin of the
bride . from Salem, was ring
bearer. Miss . Patricia Lydiard
and Miss Kaye Durno lighted
the candles. They wore pink ny
lon dresses with pink rosebud
wristlets.
eMrs. William McAllister, sang
and Miss Priscilla West was at
the organ. -
The church bouquets were' of
Queen Anne's lace, white del
phinium and pink and white
peonies. White candelabra held
white tapers, and were decor
ated with pink peonies. Mrs.
Raymond Miksche took charge
of the church decorations and
with other members of Mrs.
Findley's - bridge . club also
assisted with the reception dec
orations. The bride's table was
covered with pink faille and net
and arranged with white carna
tions and white candles.

tradition at Medford weddings.

mother wore a frock of turquoise
blue with matching hat and
gloves and pink orchid corsage.
The bridegroom's mother wore
a wheat-colored dress with
matching hat and accessories
and her corsage was of green
orchids.
The bridegroom's parents
were hosts for an informal ter
race dinner following the re
hearsal Friday night. Twenty
six attended, and the group went
to Rogue Valley Country club

ding guests at a dinner at their
home, and the Benders also gave
a dinner for relatives and guests
who came from a distance for

First Plans Made
For CivicMusic
Annual Campaign
Jackson County Civic Music
Association has started plans for
its membership campaign next
fall. During the week commenc
ing October 17, memberships
will be solicited from the music-
loving people of the Ashland
Medford areas. After that week
no further memberships will be
sold and the winter series of con
certs is available to members
only, no single admissions are
sold.'
Recently Collins Ervin, repre
sentative of the association's
booking agents. Civic Concert
Service, Inc., met with members
of the local board at the home
of its president, Seth M. Bullis.
Mr. Ervin discussed outstanding
groups and single artists, orches
tral, vocal, and instrumental,
that will be available for next
season. "
Chairman for the membership
campaign is Mrs. Darrell Huson;
secretary is Mrs. Leland Mentzer
and Mrs. Wilbur A. Arnold is
treasurer. A considerable portion
of the membership has already
renewed memberships for next
year. Last season it was neces
sary to return over a hundred
applications by reason of the
seating - capacity- limitation of
the Senior High School audi
torium, Mr. Bullis states.

planned the monthly luncheon
for Thursday, July 7 at 1 pan.
Grants Pass lady golfers will be

Shady Cove Miss Mary Elizabeth Seggessenman became the
bride of Chester Henry Pfluke Jr. in a ceremony held Saturday,
June 25, in Sacred Heart. Catholic church, Medford. The Rev.
William McCloud officiated at the double-ring service held at
one-thirty o'clock in the afternoon.

the bridegroom is a son of Mr.
and Mrs. Chester Pfluke, Can
ton, Ohio.
The ceremony was followed ,
by a reception at Rogue Valley
Country club, and the newly
weds traveled to Nevada for
their honeymoon. They will live
in Berkeley, Calif.
For her wedding the bride
wore a gown of lace over satin
fashioned with princess collar,
long sleeves and a pleated panel
in the skirt front. She carried a
bridal , prayer book with an
orchid and stephanotis and her
fingertip length veil was held
by a coronet of flowers and seed
pearls.
Miss Dolores Roach, cousin of
the bride from Saskatoon, Sas
katchewan, Canada, was maid of
honor. She wore a gown of pink
lace and tulle and carried blue
daisies. Bridesmaids were Miss
Mayme Roach, cousin of the
bride from Vancouver, British
Columbia, Miss Joyce Conner,
Shady Cove, Miss Betsy Jefferis,
Seaside, Ore., and Miss Kay
Carrara, Medford. They wore
frocks of blue lace and carried
pink daisies. The attendant's
headdresses were-of veiling and
sequins matching their gowns.
Claudia Ward, Gervais, Ore.,
another cousin of the bride, was
flower girl. She wore a yellow
frock and headdress of yellow
flowers and carried a basket of
petals.
Jimmy Lynch, cousin of the
bride from Victoria, British Co
lumbia, was ring bearer.
Mr. Segessenman escorted his
daughter down the church aisle
and Dolf Larson, Shady Cove,
served as best man for the bride
groom. : Ushers were Charles
Fisher, Berkeley, Robert Blaess
and Donald Mathias, Medford,
and Henry Conner, Shady Cove.
Bruno Pellegrini provided the
wedding music
For the wedding and reception
the bride's mother wore a gown
of dusty rose crepe and lace,
white accessories and an orchid
corsage.
At the reception Mrs. David
Ward, Gervais. cousin and god
mother of the bride, took charge
of the guest book. Mrs. E. C.
Vossen, aunt of the bride from
Eugene, and Mrs. Minnie Blaess,
Medford, poured. Mrs. A. Car
rara took charge of the gifts.

Brockways Return
From Trip East
Mr. and Mrs. A. E. Brockway
have returned to their home on
Stewart aveune after attending
the 50th wedding anniversary of
Mr. and Mrs. O. O. Berg in Lu
verne, Minn., June 14. Mrs. Berg
is Mr. Brockway's eldest sister.
Rayden, Brockway, another
brother living in Medford, had
left earlier in order to attend a
reunion of his class at the Uni
versity of Minnesota as well as
the golden wedding celebration.
He returned to Medford with the
Brockways. -
Mrs. Brockway's sister, Mrs.
R. E. Waldron, Vallejo, Calif.,
came to Medford to be with their
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ira C.
Jones while the Brockways were
away. She was joined this week
end by Mrs. Waldron, and also
in Medford for a visit is Mrs.
Gene Johnston, Eugene, daugh
ter of the Waldrons.
Other guests of Mr. and Mrs.
Brockway for the July Fourth
weekend are Mr. and Mrs. Ira

To Leave Medford
Mrs. Volney Dixon, long-time
resident of Medford, has sold her
home on Tenth street and ex
pects to leave soon for Roseburg
where she will spend the next
several weeks with her son and
daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs.
Frank Dixon.
Later Mrs. Dixon will go to
Fnoenix, Ariz., to make her
home. Her daughter, Mrs. T. B.
Hancock, lives in that city.

The double-ring ceremony was
read at two o'clock in the after
noon at Fairmount Presbyterian
church by the Rev. David White,
pastor of Westminster Presby
terian church, Eugene.

played wedding music and Rob

gon violist, was soloist.
The bride, given in marriage
by her father, wore a dress of
embroidered nylon tulle over
satin with' chapel length train.
The gown was designed and
made by the bride and, her
mother. Her finger-tip veil was
of illusion net held in place by
a coronet of pearls and satin.
She carried stephanotis centered
with a white orchid on a Bible
which had been presented to her
mother's great-great-grandmother
100 years ago. The Bible was
covered with satin and heirloom
Irish Limerick lace. The bride
also wore an Irish linen hand
embroidered petticoat fashioned
from her Irish grandmother's
wedding gown and which had
been elaborately embroidered by
her g r e a t - grandmother. The
bride's pearl necklace was bor
rowed from her mother.
Miss Marion Rice, Sacramento,
Calif., honor attendant for her
sister, wore a frock of apple
green net over taffeta fashioned
with tiers of ruffles and a jacket
She carried a nosegay of Edith
Wilkie. roses and delphinium
with apricot streamers for con
trast. The gown of the little flower
girl, Jackalyn Simmons, cousin
of the bride, was styled identi
cally to that worn by the honor
attendant. Her nosegay was a
miniature of the one carried by
the honor attendant and they
both wore heart-shaped head
bands of taffeta and net match
ing their dresses.
Keith Heller, University of
Minnesota, served as best man.
Donald Laird, Medford, and Rob
ert Huff, Taft, Ore., were ushers.
For her daughter's wedding
Mrs. Rice wore a gown of navy
blue lace over taffeta with white
accessories and a corsage of
Edith Wilkie roses and white
carnations. The bridegroom's
mother wore a light blue lace
dress with pink lace stole and
pink accessories. Her corsage
was also of Edith Wilkie roses
and white carnations.
Flower decorations for the
wedding were planned around
Edith Wilkie roses, chosen flow
er of - University house, living
organization of the bride during
her college years. .Baskets of
white stock and these roses with
candelabra holding white tapers
formed the background for the
wedding party. About 100 guests
were present. .. .
A reception was held at West
minster Foundation on the uni
versity, campus. The serving ta
ble was covered with an Irish
linen handmade cloth, a family
heirloom. The cake was served
with a silver server presented
to the bride by University house
girls and inscribed "University
House President '54-'55." Mrs.
Eila Rogers, housemother, and
Mrs. David White, served the
wedding cake. Mrs.' R. John
Laird, Medford, and Mrs. D. J.
Stotts, Altadena, Calif ., aunt of
the bridegroom, poured pnch.
Mrs; Elmer Coats, Sacramento,
Calif., aunt of the bride, took
charge of the guest book. Mrs.
Ross Minneci, Medford, 'received
gifts.
The bride and bridegroom's
parents were joint hosts for a
buffet party Saturday evening
following the wedding rehearsal.

Both the bride and bridegroom
were graduated from the Uni
versity of Oregon June 12. The
bride, in addition to serving as
president of University house,
is a member of Mu Phi Epsilon;
music honorary sorority. The
bridegroom served as student
assistant to the minister of West
minster Presbyterian church, Eu
gene, and both young people
worked with the Junior church
and were active in the Univer
sity of Oregon Westminister
Foundation.
The couple traveled to Du
buque, la., for their wedding
trip, stopping en route at Yellow
stone park for several days. The
bridegroom will enter the Pres
byterian seminary, Dubuque, in
the fall. They are at' home at
2160 Grace street in Dubuque.

tion will be sponsored by Med
ford chapter of Oregon United
Nations association,, and is set
for 7:30 o'clock in the evening
Anyone interested in meeting
Mrs. Gage-Colby and in hearing
her informal talk is invited to
attend. The visitor was with
UNICEF, UN agency dealing
with the welfare of children
around the world, before taking
up her present work. She came
to the west coast for the UN
anniversary meeting in San
Francisco and since that time
has been a guest of Dr. and Mrs.
Karlin Capper-Johnson, Port
land. Dr. Capper-Johnson is
president of the Oregon UN
group.
Bruce Manley, president of
the Medford chapter, and Mrs,
Herbert Sampert, member, also
were in San Francisco for the
UN meeting and will attend the
reception.
It is stated that in the event
of poor weather, the meeting
will be held in the auditorium
of . the Congregational church,
of which the Rev. Mr. McCam
mant is pastor and that there is
ample parking near the church
for cars.

Medford Senior' high school in
1955. The bridegroom, is serving
with the Air Force at Fairchild,

couple will live for the present.

Steve Nye, who completed his
freshman year at Stanford umV
versity in June, has returned to
Medford to spend . the summer

After school closed the young
man, who is president of the
Stanford Young Republican
club, attended the national con
vention of Young. Republicans
held in Detroit, Mich. He made
the trip to Detroit with - Bob
SprinkeL national chairman of
the college committee of Young
Republicans. Young SprinkeL
who is from Billings, Mont., is
also a student at Stanford.
Young Nye served as parliamen
tarian for Mr. Sprinkel and the
college committee during the
convention.
The Medford student will re
turn to Stanford in the fall for
his sophomore year. '

State college, has arrived home
to spend the summer vacation

young man attended the United

co, having been sent to the ses
sions by the college. He will be
editor .of the OSC newspaper.
The Barometer, beginning next
fall.
