SPURIOUS SINUSITIS
It is absurd to label ache, pain
or other sensation "neuritis" if
it is here today and gone tomor
row, no matter what pain-killer
or sense-deadening drug or physi
cal therapy the poor soul may
be persuaded to take for the
"neuritis." Oh, yes, indeed, neu
ritis happens, but not nearly so
commonly as your trick special
ist or "clinic" racketeer would
have you believe.
Sinus trouble, chronic sinus
itis, so-called, is genuine inflam
mation, infection or suppuration
of one or more of thev air-spaces
in the skull, all of which are
lined with mucous membrane
continuous with the lining of the
nasal passages.
In a great many instances of
chronic sinus trouble the condi
tion seems to be a manifestation
of allergy, or at least allergy is
the chief contributing factor.

thority to date has negated the
dictum of Sherman that
"The ordinary mixed diet of -Americans
and Europeans, at
least among dwellers in cities
and towns" (where they don't
get enough milk and milk pro
ducts) "is probably more often
deficient in calcium than in
any other chemical element."
Oh, you're allergic to milk,
eh? We'll , talk about that later.
Right now I'll say it would be
as sensible to say you're allergic
to people.

get the contract to convert two
cargo ships into passenger liners
for Oceanic Steamship Co. of
San Francisco.

Willamette's bid for the job
was slightly higher than the bid
submitted, by Maryland Dry
dock Co. of Baltimore, but a 19-year-old
law gives preference
to West Coast yards when the
bidding is close.
The 1936 law says a Western
shipbuilder's bid shall be con
sidered to be the lowest if it is
not more than six per cent
higher than the lowest Atlantic
Coast bid, and if the building is
to be done for the shipper oper
ating from West Coast ports.
This is the first time the six
per cent factor has come into
play in determining the winning
bidder.
Willamette offered to do the
job for a fixed price of $26,624.
