Ct Fire Central Point rural
firemen were dispatched to a
car fire yesterday afternoon on
Beall lane. The emergency
brake on the vehicle overheated.
No serious damage was reported.
Intersection Mishap Two
cars were involved in an acci
dent at the intersection of River
side ave. and McAndrews rd. at
about 3:40 p.m. Sunday, it was
reported by state police. Lucille
Wolff, 330 North Holly st., and
James Mark Ferns, Lapine, Ore.,
were drivers of the two vehicles.
Graduated Miss Jessie E.
O'Brien, daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. W. H. O'Brien, now of Oak
land, Calif., was a member of
a recent graduating class from
the Salvation Army Training
college in San Francisco. She
formerly attended Medford high
school and her parents lived at
971 Gilman rd. She received a
probationary lieutenant's com
mission during ceremonies held
June 13 at the Veterans War
Memorial auditorium, San Fran

Rock road underwent skin graft
surgery on her right foot Thurs
day, the family reported this
morning. Mrs. von Steen, injured
in an accident with a power lawn
mower two weeks ago, is recov
ering at her home, it was said.
Parry Postponed A reunion
planned for Tuesday evening by
Footlighters civic theater group
has been postponed, Mrs. Max
Wimmer announced today. Mr.
and Mrs. Lowell Ketch, Grants
Pass, who were to have been .the
honored guests, will be unable
to attend that evening as plan

underwent major hand surgery

four ficticious checks for
amounts up to $20 during the
week May 19 through 23.

today at Osteopathic hospital, at
tendants reported.

Friday for San Francisco where
she visited a grandmother, and
she will leave there this week
for Thousand Oaks, Calif., to
visit for several weeks with a
grandfather.
File Claim Earl F. Moore and
Herb L. Edwards have filed a
claim, known as Cherokee, in
the Trail Creek Mining district
with the county recorded. No
mineral was specified. Moore
listed his address as box 642,
Gold Hill.

Head Injured Jim Olson, 421
Alice st., was admitted this
morning to Community hospital
after receiving a head injury
about 6:15 a.m., when he was
hit in the head by a sapling tree
while working in the woods, at
tendants reported. He was taken
to the hospital by Medford am
bulance service. His condition
was not immediately known.

Sgt. Phylip L. Lausten, son
of Mrs. Ethyle Geyer, route 1,
Central Point, is now with the
3rd armored division at Ft.
Knox, Ky. Lausten entered the
Army in 1948 and served in
Korea.
PROMOTION DUE
Stanley E. Pierce, son of Mrs.
Margery R. Pierce, 633 Pine st.,
is scheduled to be promoted to
boilerman third class, U. S
Navy, in September. Pierce at
tended Medford High school be
fore entering the service in 1952,
and is now serving aboard the
destroyer USS Collett.

LOUIS CR1PE
Louis Cripe, of Emmett. Ida.,
died this morning in a local hos
pital. Conger-Morris funeral
home Is in charge of funeral
arrangements.
EDITH PETERSON
The remains of Edith Marie
Peterson, 52, of Arlington,
wash., who died in a local hos
pital yesterday, will be forward
ed tonight by Conger-Morris fu
neral home to Arlington, Wash,
for services and interment.
The deceased was born Aug,
30, 1902, in Washington. She
was married on Oct. 21, 1920
in Vancouver, Wash., to Arthur
W. Peterson, who survives.
Other survivors include three
sons, Charles W., Grants Pass
and Wayne A. and Robert E.,
Arlington, Wash.; a daughter,
Mrs. Everett Van Ry, Arlington,
Wash.; and nine grandchildren.

A car driven by Donald Milton

Central Point, and a truck
driven by George Leland Gil-

ford, collided on Table Rock rd.
at about 2 p.m. Sunday, accord
ing to state police.
There were no injuries and
damage was limited to the fender
of the car. Burrill was cited by
the investigating officer for
passing an intersection, and Gil-
man was cited for having no
