;the scene June 11 ot the wed
ding of Miss Erma Childress and
Gordon Layton.
The bride's uncle, the Rev.
; Adrian Fraley, performed the
marriage ceremony assisted by
J the pastor of the church, the
Rev. E. J. Gilstrap. The rites
'were read at 8 o'clock in the
'evening. The Rev. Mr. Fraley
is pastor of the Church of Christ,
Anacortes, Wash.
. About 175 guests attended the
wedding.
The bride, a secretary in the
'DeForest and Hansen law of
fices, is a daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. Walter Childress, route 2,
box 39, Central Point. The bride-

In Ashland Park
A reunion of the G. O. Sanden
family, 304 South Central ave
nue, was held ' last Sunday in
Lithia park in Ashland when
20 relatives met to picnic there.
The event was the result of a
visit here of Capt. and Mrs. H.
Stoll of Laredo, Tex., who were
accompanied by their three chil
dren, Gary Lee, Linda Lois and
Gale Ann. They arrived the pre
vious Wednesday to visit Mrs.
Stoll's parents, the G. O. San
dens. Another daughter, Mrs. D. E.
McMullin was here from Rose
burg, with her four children,
Dale Jr., Eunice Kathleen, Ricky
Lee and Gerald.
Others at the picnic were Mr.
and Mrs. Jewel Parr, Phoenix;
Mr. and Mrs. Preston Card and
sons, Richard and Barry, Klam
ath Falls; Edward Pathmann
and Mrs. Seth Waters of Medford.
All of the visitors have re
turned to their homes with the
exception of the Stolls, who
returned last Thursday after vis
iting in Roseburg and Cottage
Grove. They plan to leave Mon
day for their home In Texas.
En route they also will visit
in Klamath Falls.
Captain Stoll is in the medical
division of the Air Force at the
Laredo Air Force base. He
served for 10 months in Korea
at the beginning of the Korean
conflict. The family lived in Ja
pan for a time during his tour of
duty overseas.
groom is a son of Mrs. Ruby
Crawford of Norfolk, Va. He is
employed at the Cascade Wood
Products company.
Mr. Childress escorted his
daughter to the altar. Her
gown was of white brocaded satin
in ballerina length and she wore
a shoulder length veil. Her bou
quet was of gardenias and step-
hanotis.
Miss Gayle Childress, a sister
of the bride, was the honor at
tendant, and Judy Childress, an
other sister, was the flower girl.
They wore matching gowns of
pale pink.
The Misses Betty White, Vicky
Day, and Patricia Snook, brides
maids, Cathy Bradford, a cousin
of the bride, who acted as ring
bearer, and the Misses Helen
Tonn and Jeanie Stelle, candle
lighters all wore similar gowns
in a deep pink shade. The bride's
attendants and the flower girl
carried bouquets of elf and de
mure pink roses.
The bouquets which decora
ted the church and the reception
decorations were designed by
the bride's aunt, Mrs. Stanley
Shaf er, and were of pink peonies
and white stock with woodwar
dia ferns. Garlands of white net
and satin decorated the altar and
pew ends were marked with
small baskets of white net and
satin with pink peonies.
Mrs. Norman Fraley, Klamath
Falls, an aunt of the bride, fur
nished the wedding songs and
Miss Velma Brock was accompanist.
About 150 guests attended the
reception which was held in the
church rooms. Mrs. Al Bradford
and Mrs. Dick Fraley had charge
of the reception and Mrs. Fran
cis Bonn, Oregon City, poured
the punch. Mrs. Nolan Haugen,
Portland, cut the wedding cake.
Miss Carolyn Hall had charge
of the guest book while the Mis
ses Barbara Crawford, Eagle
Point, and Sharon Fraley, pre
sided at the gift table.
Other out-of-town guests at
the wedding were Mrs. Wilcox,
Tulare, Calif., grandmother of
the bridegroom; Don Alexander,
Springfield, a cousin; Mr. Hau
gen; Mrs. Adrian Fraley and
family, and Norman Fraley and
family.
The bride attended Central
Point elementary schools and
Crater High school. The bride
groom received his education in
Eagle Point and Watsonville
High schools.
Mother Attends
Recent Wedding
In Washington
Mrs. Fred Fick, 502 North Hol
ly street, returned home last
week from Pasco, Wash., where
she attended the wedding June
11 of her daughter, Mrs. Virginia
Sleeper, to Leo A. Miazga.
The wedding was held at the
Pasco Episcopal Church of Our
Saviour at two o'clock in the aft
ernoon. The bride, the former Miss
Virginia Fick of Medford, wore
a simple afternoon dress of gray
brocaded material, the bodice de
signed with Elizabethan collar.
She wore a small white hat and
white accessories and carried an
orchid corsage on a white Bible. ,
Mrs. E. P. Erwen, matron of
honor, wore an afternoon dress
of gray and lavender. Her hat
was lavender and she carried a
nosegay of roses and sweet peas.
Lester Murphy was best man.
. Mrs. Fick wore an ensemble of
blue and rose with rose colored
hat and a gardenia corsage.
The informal wedding recep
tion was held at the Lester Mur
phy home where Mrs. Murphy
cut and served the cake and Mrs.
Elmer Matheson assisted in serv
ing a buffet lunch.
After their wedding .trip to
Lake' Louise and Banff, Mr. and
Mrs. Miazga will be at home at
Richland, Wash., where he is an
attorney for the Atomic Energy
commission. They will live later
in their new home at West Pasco
when it is completed.
The bride is a graduate of Med
ford Senior High school and at
tended Southern Oregon college.
She received her degree in edu
cation at the University of Wash
ington, where she majored in
music.
Student Receives
Nursing Degree
Trail Miss Sharon L. Wilde,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wil
lard Wilde, Trail, received her
bachelor of science degree in
nursing from the University of
Utah during commencement
ceremonies June 6 in Salt Lake
City, according to a release from
the university. About 1,200
students were awarded diplomas
during the outdoor exercises in
Stadium bowl there. George Al
bert Smith Jr., Harvard univer
sity was the principal speaker.
Miss Wilde is a 1951 graduate
of Prospect high school.
Leaving
Mrs. Clyde Fichtner, 227 North
Oakdale avenue, will leave this
week end for a two-week trip to
California and Mexico. At Sac
ramento she will visit her moth
er, Mrs. John Daley, who will
accompany Mrs. Fichtner to San
Francisco, Los Angeles, San
Diego, and into Mexico. They ex
pect to spend several days at
Ensenada.
En route they will visit at
Napa, Calif., with Mr. and Mrs.
Albert Wagner. Mrs. Wagner is
the former Miss Valeria Whitney
of Talent. ;

District Rebekah Lodges Meet
In Gold Hill Hall-Many Attend
Gold Hill The 47th annual
convention of Rebekah lodges
of District 12 of the Rebekah
Assembly of Oregon, held at
Gold Hill Wednesday in the Odd
Fellows hall, was attended by
some" 130 members. Lodges at
Ashland, Medford, Central Point,
Jacksonville, Kerb y, Grants
Pass, Glendale and the hostess
lodge, Gold Hill, were repre
sented. Mrs. Edna Bradley, Clats
kanie, president of Oregon Re
bekah Assembly, was present to
conduct a school of instruction,
to speak and announce her spe
cial projects for the coming year.
She announced her motto as
"Scatter Seeds of Kindness," and
asked the members to carry out
this idea by doing a kindly deed
each day. Mrs. Bradley gave her
slogan, "The road to happiness
is thoughtful service," and con
gratulated the lodges on their
many community service pro
jects as well as their work with
in their own organizations.
The assembly president said
that her emblem is the bluebird
and her flower, the rose, and
special color,, pink, were carried
out in decorations of the lodge,
room and dining room for the
event. Mrs. Bradley's chosen
song, "I Will Be True," was
sung by several groups during
the sessions. .
She announced her pr6ject as
new furnishings for the dining
room of the Odd Fellows Home
in Portland.
Officers for the 1956 conven
tion, to be held in Glendale,
were chosen. They are Mrs, Mae
Basye, Glendale, chairman; Mrs.
George Brownlee, Jacksonville,
vice-chairman; Mrs. Nadine Rey
nolds , Glendale, secretary-treasurer;
Mrs. Ethel Gibbs, Ocean
lake, assembly, vice-president
and Mrs. Iva Gilmore, Grants
Pass, right and left supporters
to the chairman; Mrs. Dolores
Lester, Gold Hill, warden; Mrs.
Robert Pfaff, Central Point, con
ductor; Mrs. Clarence Jordan,
Medford and Mrs. Twyla Savage,
Kerby, guardians; Mrs. Lewis
Thompson, Medford, and Mrs.
W. H. McDanile, Jacksonville,
right and left supporters to the
vice-chairman.
A welcome was sung by three
Gold Hill members, and the re
sponse was by Mrs. Joyce Heald,
Kerby. Theta Rho girls of Cen
tral Point gave a tribute to the
assembly president and present
ed girls from the convention
chairman, Mrs. Irene Johnson,
Gold Hill, to all her officers. A
memorial for Rebekah members
who died during the past year
was given by Grants Pass, mem
bers. Reports were given by all
lodges and lodge clubs of the
district, and a tribute to the flag
was presented by Jacksonville
members.
Demonstrations of portions of
the, ritual were given by Central
Point and Glendale members,
and Mrs. Bradley answered ques
tions. The evening session was the of
fical visit of Mrs. Bradley to a
joint meeting of Gold Hill and
Central Point lodges. Presiding
over the meeting were Mrs,
Dolores Lester, Gold Hill noble
grand, and Mrs. Lula Glenn,
Central Point noble1 grand.
Mrs. Evelyn Thompson, Gold
Hill and Mrs. Pfaff of Central
Point were presented their com
missions from Mrs. Bradley as
district . deputy presidents Of
their lodges and were introduced
and honored. The initiatory de
gree work was given by Ash
land lodge members.

At Bray Home
Weds Couple
Miss Peggy Ann Gillaspey and
Fred Lee Bennett were married
in double ring rites June 4 at 5
o'clock in .the afternoon at the
Dr. Jouett Bray residence. Dr.
Bray, a Methodist minister, per
formed the ceremony.
The bride, a 1955 Phoenix
High school graduate, is a
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Guy O.
Gillaspey and the bridegroom's
parents are Mr. and Mrs. Charles
Bennett, 820 Marshall avenue.
He is a graduate of Medford
Senior high school and is em
ployed at the Kay Paper Prod
ucts company.
For her wedding the bride
wore a silk print dress and her
accessories were white. . She
wore a corsage of red rosebuds.
Decorations about , the Bray
home were of wild azalea blos
soms, rhododendrons and red
peonies.
' The reception was held at
Mary's casa. ,
For the occasion Mrs. Gillas
pey wore a navy blue suit with
matching accessories and the
bridegroom's mother wore a
beige suit with black and white
accessories. Both had pink and
white carnation corsages.
The couole left for the Oregon
and California coast and' they
will make their home in Med
ford. The bride has lived here
her entire life and the bride
groom has been a resident for
about 10 years. He is in Ft.
Lewis, Wash., with the Oregon
National guard on an annual
training mission and will return
next Saturday.

Charter Meeting Set for Bethel
Members of Bethel UD, Job's
Daughters of Medford, will meet
to receive their charter Wednes
day, June 22 at 7:30 p.m., in the
Pythian building.
Visiting officers will be guests
and include Mrs. Velma Green,
Portland, grand guardian and
Roy Colburn, Roseburg, associ
ate grand guardian.
Parents of members, guardians
of Job's Daughters and persons
with proper Masonic affiliation
are invited.
The meeting will be preceded
by a dinner at the Medford hotel.
Also at the session will be
members of the guardian coun
cil, other grand officers and
bethel line officers. ,'

side guardian of the assembly.
A tribute to Mrs. Bradley was
given by F-L clubs of Central
Point, Medford and Glendale,
and she was presented also with
a gift from the Central Point and
Gold Hill lodges. After the talk
by the assembly president, the
meeting closed and refreshments
were served.
