Casterline Family Returning to City
Dr. and Mrs. Ray L. Caster
line and their five children will
return to Medford this week
end after an absence of nearly
three years.
Dr. Casterline was called for
his second tour of active Naval
duty in 1952 and initially was
stationed at the U.S. Naval Hos
pital, Bremerton, Wash. Subse
quently he was assigned to the
U.S. Marine Corps and was sta
tioned at Camp Joseph H. Pen
dleton, Oceanside, Calif., where
he was released from active duty
with the rank of lieutenant com
mander in the medical corps,

IN THE HOUSE?
Back in the days when I was
an honest dnrfnr T eprvAH aa nna
of the board of censors of the
County Medical Society, with
two other doctors. It was the
duty of the board of censors
to give applicants for member
ship the o. o. and reoort on their
eligibility.
Well, sir, one of the other cen
sors had a professional colleague
wno nad taken the same state
board examination at the same
time as he had, for license to
practice. He persuaded his col
league to apply for membership
in the County Medical Society.
We the censors called on the
applicant and sized him up. We
unanimously recommended that
the society elect him a member.
But there was one slight flaw
in the man's fitness to be one of
us. He was a D. O., not an M.D.
His application was rejected
with considerable vehemence.
From the way the old guard
spluttered we censors feared we
might be expelled.
The osteopath was legally
qualified to practice. He was a
man of good character and as
competent as any other physi
cian to treat sick people. His
M. D. neighbors frequently
worked in consultation or coop
eration with him. Probably, had
he cared to do so, he could have
taken the matter to court and
compelled the medical society,

This is a shameful attitude, al
though I am under the impres
sion that it doesn't worry the
osteopaths.
An editorial article in the offi
cial Bulletin of the Passaic Coun
ty Medical Society stated that
some of the members resented
the fact that osteopaths were be
ing sent on emergency calls by
the telephone-answering serv
ices. "Some of our members" the
editorial explained, "have indi
cated their willingness to answer
emergency calls if they involve
the eye, the little toe of the left

sheer nonsense. An emergency
call is an emergency call . . . "
Except as a nice way of get-1
ting legitimate graft, what ex
cuse can you, as a presumably
intelligent citizen, trump up for
granting me a license to practice
any branch of medicine or sur
gery I choose in the State of
New York, but exacting from me
SI 00 for stamping my license
Good in California? Or what's
the sense of the board of exam
iners finding me fit to practice
in one . State and the board in
another State insisting that I
pay them a fat fee and undergo
their examination before I prac
tice in their State?
The licensing qf healers in
Yankeeland is a lot of hokum.
If the graduate is not qualified
io practtw any waer ki e
country, upon receiving the de
gree of M. D., D. O. or whatever,
then it's high time to overhaul,
improve or close the educational
institutions that grant the de
gree.

audience than I reach on TV
Europe." His movie, "Sincerely Yours",
is a story about a musician who
goes deaf and, while recovering,
influences the lives of persons
who pass by his window. The
plot sounds suspiciously like an
earlier Warner epic starring
George Arliss, "The Man Who
Played God"
"Sincerely Yours" will be but
the first film in Liberace's new
career as a movie actor. He has,
however, no plans to re-do other
Arliss films such as "Disraeli"
and "Alexander Hamilton."
"I'm scheduled for five pic
tures at Warner's," he explained.
They are talking about doing
a period picture, a comedy and
a re-make of- 'The Man Who
Came to Dinner. "
Keeps Smile
Though Liberace has left his
frilly shirts and gold shoes at
home, he's kept his famous smile
for his movie.
"And the script embodies
things people know me for, such
as love of family, religion, trage
dy and humor," he added.
He also kept his flair. His
dressing room at the studio
boasts silver wallpaper and his
familiar flowing signature on
the door. Workers from nearby
movies crowd his set to watch
the TV star in action.
For today's scene he was sup
posed to be playing in Carnegie
Hall ("When Irish Eyes are
Smiling"). Then he did a neat
soft shoe to "Tea for Two."
"He's been practicing his
dance routines around his piano
shaped swimming pool," a Libe
race aide confided.

announced that new stocks of
the pamphlet "How to Respect
and Display Our Flag" have ar
rived at that office and are avail
able upon request.
The booklet, compiled and dis
tributed by the Marine Corps,
contains information as to the
proper display and respect due
the flag as well as a history of
the flag. It gives the proper
cleaning methods as well as the
proper way to dispose of a worn
out flag, information on military
funerals, and the way to go
about obtaining a flag for such
