Reveal Plans for
National Army
Berlin U.R) The East Ger
man Communists announced to
day that they intend to create
a national army, and indicated
they will introduce conscription
for thousands of East Zone
youths.
The two moves were disclosed
in a speech made by East Zone
Deputy Premier and Communist
Party boss Walter Ulbright and
printed in full in the official
Communist Party newspaper
Neus Deutschland.
Old Nazi Term
"Speaking to the Communist
Party Central Committee, Ul
bright made no mention of vol
untary enlistment and for the
first time used the expression
"militaerdienstzeit" (m i 1 i t a ry
service time), the old Nazi term
for : compulsory service.
He said that Western imperial
ists were planning to "plunder
the national wealth of the Ger
man Democratic Republic, the
Peoples Republic of Poland, the
Czechoslovakian Republic and
the Soviet Union."
"The protection of peace de
mands, as laid down in the War
saw agreements, the creation of
armed forces in the German
Democratid Republic in prder to
remove all hope of military suc
cess from the aggressive powers
of the Western monopoly capi
talists," he said.

"Only mammals are supposed to
give milk. Right? Now what
about pigeon's milk?"
"Our class keeps your articles
in a big scrapbook. We notice
that you've written the biggest
snake. What's the smallest? en
quires Class Secretary J. R. D.,
via the Bethlehem Globe.
Snow Squeak: The shrill fifing
of the snow beneath one's galo
shes in real cold weather is caus
ed by friction - the hard, sharp
edges of frozen crystals rubbing
against each other. In mild
weather, when the thermometer
is only a little below freezing,
the edges are somewhat mushy,
less hard, and more easily
blunted. But as the temperature
sinks, the crystals become in
creasingly harder, the friction
increases, and the protesting
squeaks become shriller and
louder. And please tell your
troop, J. P. R., that was a mighty
fine question.
Pigeon's Milk: Adult pigeons,
both hens and cocks, have the
ability to digest food in their
crops partially and then regurg
itate it into the hungry, wide;
open mouth of their nestlings.
The same "milk" is a misnomer,
however. It is not true milk, only
looking like it with cheeselike
solid particles which are form
ed by the breaking down of cells
in the crop's lining.
In England, on April Fool's
day, it is considered a huge joke
to send unsuspecting children to
the grocery store to buy Pigeon's
milk.
Smallest Snakts: In consider
ing smallest snakes, let's look
at it in two ways - those that
weigh the least and those that
are shortest. As for the shortest,
there are several mature worm
snakes which are quite small -their
adult size is five inches.
As for the lightest in weight,
there is a three foot long-headed
snake which often weighs less
than one ounce even less. Usu
ally, a three footer would weight
about 32 times that much - say,
around two pounds.
Many thanks for telling me

scrapbook.
