Intimates say Mrs. Eisenhower
is feeling better than she has in
many months.
She has a phenomenal faculty
for remembering names. At
West Point earlier this week,
she was able to call by their first
names many Army officers and
their wives whom she had not
seen in a number of years.
Nothing could have been
more flattering to the persons
whose names vere called, as it
seemed, out of the blue.
Best current estimate on the
first family's stay in Colorado
this summer: Six weeks, begin
ning in late August. Last sum
mer, the President and his wife
were In Denver for eight weeks.
When Mr. Eisenhower was a
West Point cadet, his room num
ber was 2637 in the north area
of the bleak, gray-walled barracks.

Maybe the President runs
again in 1956, maybe he doesn't.
But the politicians who are ad
vocating his making another
race can't get much comfort out
of some of the remarks Mr.
Eisenhower, is making to friends.
To his class of 1915 at West
Point, he said the other day,
"My life doesn't have the free
dom it once did."
A classmate stopped him Mon
day night in the lush estate of
I Gene Leone outside West Point
! and said, "It is sure swell to
have you with us tonight."
The President said with an
air of deep conviction, "And
brother, is it good to get away."
And as friends at Gettysburg
have heard him say lately, he
refers to the White House as
'the salt mine," a phrase used
by his predecessor, ex-President
Truman. Mr. Truman, when he
didn't call the White House a
salt mine, some times referred to
the executive mansion as "that
big white prison."
Someone gave the Eisenhow
ers five dogwood trees for their
Pennsylvania farm. The trees
were duly planted in a promin
ent spot near the house, but the
Eisenhowers' -farmer reported
after a few days to the President
that the trees were heavily
clipped and transplanted to a
moist area near his pond. Now
the trees are doing famously

DISTRICT
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN:
1. That a special election will be
held in the Medford Irrigation District,
Jackson County. Oregon, on Friday,
the 15th day of July, 1955. for the
purpose of determining whether the
Board of Directors of the District shall
be authorized for and on behalf of
the District to enter into a repayment
contract with the United States of
America, for the following general
purposes:
To provide for the reconstruction,
rehabilitation, repair and better
ment by the United States of the
facilities of the District, including
but not exclusive of that portion
of the District's irrigation facil
ities jointly owned with the Rogue
River Valley Irrigation District.
To obligate the District to re
pay to the United States, without
interest, the cost of such construc
tion, repair and betterment in an
amount not exceeding One Mil
lion. Four Hundred Seventy-Five
Thousand, Four Hundred Sixty
Six and 00100 (Sl.475.466.00l Dol
lars for the work hereinabove
described, in annual installments
scheduled as follows:

year of the first installment
through those years in which the
e District is obligated to pay an
nually on account of its presently
existed bonded obligations, in

to pay the full construction
charge obligation. Said repayment
shall be without interest, and the
first of said annual installments
shall be for the year following
the year in which the Secretary
of the United States Department
of the Interior notifies the Dis
trict that the work on the facil
ities jointly owned by the Med
ford Irrigation District and the
Rogue River Valley Irrigation Dis
trict has been completed, and
shall be due and payable on De
cember 31st of the year following
said year in which the said Secre
tary so notifies the District. Each
subsequent annual installment
shall be due and payable each
December 31st thereafter until the
total construction charge obliga
tion is paid in full.

Graham Lauded for
Highly Successful
Crusade in Paris
Paris (U.R) A leading pro
Catholic French newspaper to
day paid tribute to Billy Gra
ham for his success in one of the
toughest crusades undertaken by
the American, evangelist.
The 37-year-old North Caro
linian winds up his five-day cru
sade in this predominantly Ro
man Catholic nation tonight. At
tendance has far exceeded even
the most optimistic expectations.
Wednesday night, Graham
attracted the biggest crowd in
his Paris crusade 9,956 persons
to the Palais Des Sports. It
brought to nearly 32,000 the
number who have heard Gra
ham preach, even though an in
terpreter must translate sermons
phrase-by-phrase. I
Many Answer Appeal ;
And the precentage of those;
answering his appeals to make
the "decision for Christ" has
been about three times greater
than at Graham's highly-successful
recent crusade in London.
Of Wednesday night's aud
ience, 467 advanced to the dais
where Graham stood to declare
for Christ, for a four-day total
of 1,872.
The pro-Catholic newspaper
Le Figaro saidthat Graham had
attracted listeners ranging from
high society to factory workers.
"Billy Graham's success proves
one thing; the need that men
have for recourse to the spiri
tual," the newspaper said.
Translation Nearly Perfect
Graham's aides said he be
lieves a major part of his success
in Paris comes from the fact that
the running translations are so
nearly perfect. Le Figaro said
"one has the , impression that
there is an echo in the hall."
The translator, Baptist Minis
ter Jacques Blocher, studied in
Minneapolis, Minn., in the 1930s.
Blocher said that Graham in
