The five pilots formed the first
jet class to be trained by the
U. S. Air Force in a program that
started Jan. 19. -Other classes
have started each month since
then.
Japan's air ' force was dis

ed by the House.
Higley said his agency has
found that about 40 per cent of
ailing veterans are suffering
from mental illness.

Vaccine Plentiful
For Second Round
Portland flJ.R) Surplus
vaccine from the first round of
anti-polio shots in counties
around the state will probably
be used in . those counties for
second - round shots, according
to Dr. Harold M. Erickson, state
health officer.
Although the vaccine - techni
cally belongs to the National
Foundation for Infantile Paraly
sis, the foundation is expected
to okay its use for completion of
the free two-shot series for Ore

Dr. Erickson said he has only to
wait' for completed inoculation
figures from participating coun
ties before he orders vaccine
from the national foundation for
second-round shots. ,
Children from all counties ex
cept Curry in southern Oregon
will face -the needle again in
from two to four weeks. Ia Cur
ry, authorities went ahead with
inoculations when the vaccine
controversy was at its hottest.
Now they have announced that
second and final shots in the
series have been completed with
vaccine left over from the -first
shots.
