4-H Club News
The Antelope 4-H Forestry
Club went on a four county hike
near Azalea, Ore. The four coun
ties participating were, Jackson,
Coos, Josephine and Douglas.
The hike lasted two days, Friday
and Saturday, May 13 and 14.
While there, the members
were taken on a fire spotting
contest, a pacing contest and a
treasure-hunt. Antelope took the
grand prize for winning the
treasure hunt. A green and white
beany was awarded to James
Jackson, the president of the
club, for winning the hunt.

The meeting was held at Mrs.
Orage Houston's house. We
worked on our .aprons. Refresh
ments were served by Mrs.
Houston. The meeting was closed
t 5 o'clock. Our next meeting
will be May 26.

Five Boy Scouts To Receive
Eagle Awards Monday Night
Five vallev Bov Scouts, all
members of Troop 9, will receive
Eagle badges Monday during
ceremonies at which Dr. Elmo
Stevenson, president of the
Southern Oregon College, will
be the main speaker. The meet
ing will be held at the First
Christian church on South Oak
dale ave., at 7:30 p.m.
The Scouts who will receive
the honor are James and Dick
Corum, twin sons of Mr. and
Mrs. Grover Corum; Sam Jen
nings Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs.
Sam Jennings, Mike Roberts, son
of Dr. and Mrs. William H. Rob
erts, and Dick Guches, son of
Mr. and Mrs. Chester Guches.
Dr. Roberts is the scoutmaster.
Joined Together
The first four named entered
Troop 9 at the same time and
all with the idea in mind of be
coming Eagle Scouts. Dick
Guches also was active in the
same troop until the past year
and received all the merit badges
which go toward his new honor
while active in the troop.
This group will make a total
of lft Scouts who have received
the Eagle rank in Troop 9.
This also will make three
Eagle Scouts in the same fam
ily. They are Dr. Roberts, an
other son, Bill Roberts, now sta
tioned with the paratroopers in
the airborne service at Ft. Camp-

like five feet,
aged 56, is a
teacher of
Yoga.
"Y o g i," I
said. "He 'is a Harman Nichola
famous catcher.
"Yes," I know, said Miss Devi,
who is part Swedish and part
Russian. "Yogi, you spell with
an T at the end is the catcher. I
am talking about the perform
ance I learned in India, Yoga.
About how to live longer by liv
ing right . . . knowing how to
breathe properly, to exercise
and eat the right food. Come over
here and put your head on the
floor."
Down on my head I went. A
photographer was ready to shoot
me upside down. Miss Devi flip
ped my legs up against the wall.
Apparently her flip was not hard
enough. I crumbled.
Miss Devi, who preaches in
books and lectures that you can
be healthy and wise if you exer
cise and breathe right and eat
right and think right, was a
little miffed. I was fouling up
her act.
It's the Breathing
"It's easy," said Miss Devi,
who was talking upside down.
"It's the breathing. Put your
mind to something like quitting
smoking and you think better
upside down. Trouble with you,
Mr. N., is that you don't coop
erate. You don't think hard
enough."
I told the lady that I was
thinking as hard as I could. But
tumbled there on the floor with
a hole showing in my socks, how
could a man think?
Getting back to the business of
quitting smoking, I asked the
lady what standing on your head
had to do with it. "That is just
a side bar," she said. "It is most
ly controlling your breathing,
by taking gulps of air and having
a will of your own."
As a matter of fact, Miss Devi
said, quitting anything is easy
if you are a mind to. Even foods
like you want or one for the
road or, well, smoking.
Even Finances
Miss Devi said she wanted to
tell me something. She told me
that by relaxation you can get
over insomnia or a spell of
nerves if you are worried about
finances (and that would be
scmething to copyright) or al
most anything, including a
penchant for playing the horses.
Take insomnia, she said. Miss
Devi wrote a book called "For
ever Young and Forever Happy."
In that she said she had helped
people like Gloria Swanson,
Greta Garbo, Jennifer Jones,
Ruth St. Denis and others to re
lax and forget their problems.

Salem Man Killed When
Pinned by Cab of Truck
Salem (U.R) Merle Harley
Rains, 29, Salem, was killed Wed
nesday when he was pinned be
tween the cab and spare tire of
a gravel truck just off Skyline
road about seven miles south of
Salem.
His body wag discovered by a
seven-year-old boy on his way
home from school.
Sheriff's deputies who inves
tigated said apparently the me
chanism used to raise the gravel
box was not working and Rains
was trying to raise it manually
when it fell, pinning him against
the cab.
