A young man entered the bank
here, threw down a large roll
of small bills, and requested
a $1,000 bill. Some one immed
iately called for Police Chief
Thurston Nelson.
Nelson found that the man
wasn't playing confidence games
and wasn't planning to hold up
anyone. He was a salesman who
just didn't want to carry a large
roll of bills around.
The salesman settled for two
$500 bills.
Arctic Owl Ventures
Into Television Tower

rare white owl with a four-foot
wingspan recently ventured too
far south of its Arctic home and
collided with a Wisconsin tele
vision tower.
The owl became trapped in
the mechanism of the 60-foot
tower. When residents tried to
rescue the bird, it suffered a
broken wing and was taken to
the Vilas Park Zoo to recover.

Charles Champlin hat been in
vited to be a panel member in a
day-long" meeting in Portland
devoted to police. work in bank
robberies, it was reported Satur
day. The session, called for Oregon
police officers by the Federal
Bureau of Investigation, will be
held in Portland on Friday, May
20. Champlin will discuss patrol
techniques in protecting banks
along with two other panel mem
bers. Other panels on differing
phases of the problem will be
held throughout the day.
