Announcement of the engagement of Miss Mary Anns Birds

week end in Pullman and in Spokane. Wash. The bride-to-be
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Victor Birdseye, Route 2, Medford, and
her fiance are both students at Washington State college and
the wedding will be held In early fall.

tral Point, and the bridegroom's
mother Is Mrs. Nellie Bellinger
of Elko, Nev.

Mrs. Jack Swaryck was ma
tron of honor and Mr. Swaryck
was best man. '
The bride wore a white lace
gown over aqua taffeta and car
ried a colonial bouquet of elf
roses and stephanotis.
Mrs. Swaryck was dressed in
an egg shell linen and lace gown
and carried a colonial bouquet
of carnations and stephanotis.
A reception was held at the
home of Mr. and Mrs. Swaryck.
The couple made their wed
ding trip through California and
Nevada. Both are employed at
Dunhams Department store.

Held Here by PEO
Five southern Oregon cities
were represented at an annual
spring session of the southern
Oregon council of PEO Sister
hood held recently at the Rogue
Valley Country club. Chapter
CP of Medford was the host
group.
Two Medford women were
honored at the session, Mrs
Dolph Phipps, who is the second
vice-president of the Oregon
state chapter, ' PEO, and Mrs
Maude Holmes, who was honored
as the oldest PEO member pres
ent. She recently observed her
91st birthday anniversary.
Miss Alma Frerichs of Grants
Pass, vice-president of the coun
cil, presided in the absence of
Mrs. Leland Linn of Ashland
Mrs. W. H. Gerretsen, Roseburg,
acted as secretary.
May baskets filled with spring
flowers decorated the tables and
the main table, was decorated
with a 'maypole and miniature
dolls.

and the Caroleers of the First
Methodist church, with Mrs. C.

In Washington
The engagement of Miss Mary
Anne Birdseye, daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Victor Birdseye,
Route 2, Box 394, to Dan W.
Doty of Colfax, Wash., was an
nounced last weekend at parties
in Pullman and Spokane, Wash.
Mr. Doty is a son of Mr. and
Mrs. D. W. Doty of Colfax. , J
Both young people are stu
dents at Washington State col
lege. Miss Birdseye is head spon
sor of Regent's hill, women's
dormitory at the school, and
first announcement of the en
gagement was made at a party
given in her honor by friends in
the hall. It was held Friday,
April 29.
Second announcement was
made at a dinner at the home of
Mr. and Ms. Bernie Mueller,
Whitworth college students, in
Spokane, on- April 30. Mrs.
Mueller is the former Carolyn
Shangle of Medford, and Miss
Birdseye was an attendant at the
Mueller-Shangle. wedding held
here last month. Other guests at
the dinner were Mr. and Mrs.
Gordon James, Medford, Whit
worth college students.
An early fall wedding at Med-
ford's First Presbyterian church
is planned by the couple, and
both will return to Washington
State college. Mr. Doty, major
ing in agricultural engineering
at WSC, is a veteran of service
in Korea. Miss Birdseye, a grad
uate of Medford Senior High
school with the class of 1952,
is majoring in recreation.
The bride-elect is a member
of one of the county's best
known families, and is one of the
fourth generation of the Birds-
eye family to live in Jackson
county. Her grandmother, Mrs
Effie Birdseye, resides in the
historic Birdseye home on Birds-
eye creek where the bride
elect's father and grandfather
were both born.

For Miss Gardner

Miss Venita Gardner, whose
wedding to Dick Jack is planned
for June 17, was entertained at
a bridal shower May 4 at the
home of Mrs. L. S. DeBord, 617
South Ivy street.
Miss Gardner is a daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur Gardner
and the bridegroom-elect is a
son of Mrs. James Lucas of Ash
land, and Ray Jack Of Los An
geles.
The honored guest was pres-
sented gifts and the hostess pre
sented her a corsage of red min
iature roses.

Everett Fabers
On Trip East;
To Return Soon
Central Point Mr. and Mrs.
Everett Faber are expected to
arrive home May 15 after being
away for nearly a month. They
arrived May 3 at Washington,
D. C, where they also visited
earlier. .
Mrs. Faber preceded her hus
band to Denver, Colo., where she
was speaker at a meeting of Wes
leyan Service guild of the Meth
odist church. She is secretary of
the western jurisdiction of the
guild.
Also in Colorado Mrs. Faber
spoke at district sessions at Pu
eblo and Greeley, and at Grand
Junction was a speaker at a Colo
rado conference meeting of the
Woman's Society of Christian
Service and Wesleyan Service
guild.
Mr. Faber joined his wife at
Denver and they continued to
New York City. There they were
guests of Mrs. C: A. Meeker, for
mer Medford resident, now ed
itor of the Methodist Woman Na
tional publication of the church.
They also attended shows at
Radio City. Mr. Faber transacted
business relative to station
KBES-TV both in New York and
Washington and Mrs. Faber at
tended UN meetings in New
Yofk.
While in Washington Mrs. Fa
ber attended a senate session on
the Hells Canyon issue and a
senate meeting on United Na
tions charter. They also were in
Detroit, Mich., where they pur
chased a car. -
They now are visiting with a
brother of Mrs. Faber, Dr.
Franklin Launer, and his family,
at Columbus, Mo.
Itinerary Planned
For College Choir
Ashland Itinerary of a tour
by Southern Oregon college
choir has been announced by
Choir Director Oscar Bjorlie.
Eight communities of Southern
Oregon will be included in the
tour.
The afternoon of Wednesday,
May 11, the choir will sing at
Rogue River High school. Thurs
day, May 12, the group will be
at Myrtle Point at 6 a.m., at Ban
don at 11 a.m., and at Port Or
ford at 2:45 p.m.
Friday, May 13, the choir will
perform at Gold Beach at 9 a.m.,
at Brookings at 11 a.m. and at
Illinois Valley at 2:45 p.m.
A home concert will also be
given by the choir at 8 p.m. Fri
day. May 13, in Churchill hall
auditorium on th? SOC campus.
The concert in the evening will
feature a girl's trio and a male
quartet.

Sister To Spend
Summer in City
Mrs. William Hochwald of
Philadelphia and New Jersey
has arrived 5n Medford to spend
the summer months with her
sister, Mrs. J. J. Emmens, 1443
East Main street.
Mrs. Hochwald accompanied
Mrs. Emmens to Oregon when
the latter returned home after
spending two months in the
east. While away Mrs. Emmens
visited her sister in Branchville,
N.J., spent some time in Wash
ington D.C., and was with her
son and daughter-in-law, Col.
and Mrs. Robert Emmens and
family for a considerable period.
The colonel is assigned to duty
at Langley Air field. ;

To Become Bride
Of Edward Jansen
An early June wedding is
planned for Miss Nora Kaye
Bailey who will become the
bride of Edward L. Jansen. The
brideelect's parents, Mr. and
Mrs. Leonard L. Bailey, route 1,
Talent, recently announced the
engagement of their daughter
and the forthcoming marriage.
Miss Bailey is a senior at Phoe
nix High school, and her fiance
is employed at Hilt, Calif., by
the Fruit Growers Supply com
pany. He is a son of Mr. and Mrs.

was employed for two years at
