Host Group for
District Meeting
The Medford Free Methodist
church West 10th and Ivy sts..
will be host church for a district
quarterly conference this week
end. A program will be presented
and was announced this week
by the Rev. John M. Root, pas
tor of the Medford church.
The sessions will open on Fri
day, May 6 and continue through
Sunday, May 8.
A dinner will be served Fri
day at the church at 5:30 p.m.,
and a worship service is set for
7:30 p.m., that day. The Rev. W.
S. Kendall will preside and the
Rev. Carl Anderson, evangelist
from Burlington, Vt, will be the
guest speaker.
Sessions Open
A devotional hour will open
the sessions Saturday at 9:30
a.m., when the Rev. P. J. Grif
fiths will lead. The Rev. R. J,
Stewart will preside for a wor
ship hour at 10:30 a.m.; and the
Rev. Anderson will speak.
A noon luncheon is planned
and district quarterly confer
ence meetings will get under
way at 1:30 p.m. The Women's
Missionary society will conduct
a business meeting at 3 p.m. Of
ficers for the district will be
elected.
Young People
' Dinner Saturday . will - be
served at 5:30 p.m., and a Young
People's Missionary society
meeting is announced for 6:30
p.m. The Evangelistic Youth
service with the Rev. Harvey
Timm in charge will open at
7:30 p.m., and the Rev. Ander
son will speak.
Sunday sessions begin with
Sunday school at 9:45 a.m., a
worship hour at 11 a.m., with
the Rev. Anderson a speaker,
and the day will continue with
a luncheon at noon, missionary
meeting at 2:30 p.m., an evening
lunch at 5:30 p.m.; YPMS, the
Rev. C. O. Tremain leader, at
6:30 p.m., and an evangelistic
ervice at 7:30 p.m.
First Baptist Youth
Wilt Conduct Rally
A Youth rally will be held at
the First Baptist church, North
Central ave. at Fifth ft., Satur
day, May 7, at 7:30 p.m. to which
young people and adults of the
vicinity are invited.
Three-Act Play
The rally will feature a dram
atization of Bible truth by young
people of the Albany First Bap
tist church in a three-act play,
Thy Will Be Done." The play
and pantomin has a cast of
about 25 young people, as well
as an organist and soloist. Other
young people have charge of
costuming and property. The
Senior Baptist league of the
Medford church will provide a
feature between acts of the play.

Assembly Speakers
Pastor Selected
At Phoenix Church
Phoenix The Rev. Ernest
Volkman of Berkeley, Calif., has
been selected as pastor for the
Phoenix Presbyterian church. He
spoke to the congregation last
Sunday and he was elected dur
ing a meeting that afternoon.
The pastor will move here
with his family and begin his
work the first part of June. He
now is attending the University
of California.
The Rev. Otis Swisher, who
has served the church as an
interim pastor will continue un
til the Rev. Volhman arrives.
The Rev. Swisher also was ex
tended a vote of appreciation for
his work.
The Volkmans and their two
sons were honored at a social
hour following the church serv
ices last Sunday.
Mother's Day Service
Announced at Phoenix
Phoenix Regular services
will be held at the Phoenix Pres
byterian church on Sunday, May
8, and recognition will be given
the mothers at the Sunday
school. Corsages will be pre
sented to the oldest and the
youngest mother present. The
services open at 10 a.m.
At the church service the Rev.
Otis Swisher will use as his
topic, "The Marks of a Christian
Home." A Mother's recognition,
also will be given. The choir will
furnish music. The morning
service is at 11 a.m.
Nazarenes Hear Progress
Reports, Elect
At the annual session of the
Church of the Nazarene meeting
held Wednesday evening, the
Rev. R. W. Hurn m his pastoral
report indicated that the past as
sembly year has been one of
progress. New records were set
in four different categories in
volving church giving, Mis
sionary society membership,
Sunday school enrollment, and
total church members.
Total giving this year through
the local church amounted to
$39-719.00 which is an alltime
record. The Nazarene Foreign
Missionary society reported a
record membership of 170 mem
bers. The enrollment of the Sun
day school now stands at 661
which also is a record, and the
total membership of the church
reached the record high of 346.
Total gains this year in church
membership amounted to 47.
Elections -
Operating under a congrega
tional policy, the members of
the annual meeting elected lay
persons to key administrative
positions. Loren Scheel was re
elected Sunday school superin
tendent; and trustees elected are
Loyd Arnold, Fred Hall, Roy
House, Harold Huebner, Arnold
Kornstad. Al Larson, and Clar
ence Starkey.
The newly elected stewards
are Ralph Erb, Mrs. Henry Her
man, Mrs. Roy House, Mrs. Al
Larson, Mrs,. Charles Leschen

Missionaries to
Speak in Valley
The Rev. and Mrs. Harland A.
Park, who served as missionar
ies to South China for the past
24 years, will speak as three val
ley Oregon Assemblies of God
this coming week.
On Tuesday night, the Rev.
and Mrs. Park will speak at the
Ashland Assembly of God, locat
ed at 485 Siskiyou St., at 7:30
p.m. They will appear at the
Jacksonville Assembly of God,
604 North Fifth St., at 7:45 p.m.,
on Wednesday. Thursday they
will speak at the Medford Assem
bly of God, 1108 West Main st.,
at 7:45 p.m. ,
Opened Missions
During their first term on the
"field the Parks opened two mis
sion stations in the province of
Kwong Sai. In their second term
they worked in Hong Kong until
they were interned in Stanley
ca,mp during the Japanese war.
After six months of imprison
ment they were repatriated.
In 1945 the Rev. Mr. Park was
one of the first missionaries who
returned to China after the Jap
anese war. Mrs. Park went to
China the following year and to
gether they remained on the
field until last year. Mrs. Park
has had wide experience in chil
dren's and young people's work.
They have up-to-date informa
tion regarding the Communist
situation and the general outlook
for the strategic colony of Hong
Kong. They will have a display
of curios and show colored slides
depicting phases of Chinese life
and gospel work in South China.

Ministers to Meet
At Church of God
The Ministers of the Churches
of God of Southern Oregon will
convene at the First Church of
God, Haven and Holly st., May
9, 10, and 11, for church busi
ness sessions, according to a
church news release by Rev.
Darold H. Jones, local minister.
Part in Plans ,
Some 15 ministers and their
wives are expected at the three
day meeting. All visiting minis
ters's will have a part in plan
ning the church extension and
project work for the southern
Oregon district. The main point
of business will be the forming
of concrete plans for the South
ern Oregon camp meeting of the
Church of God, to be held in
Roseburg, September 2, 3, 4.

The program will begin Sun
day with a general meeting on
the Sunday school, from 2:30
p.m. Mr. Dalton also will speak
at the Sunday service at 7:30
p.m., using a Sunday school
evangelistic theme.
On Monday, May 9, special
clinics will be held for various
Sunday school departments. The
cradle roll and nursery sessions
will be at 10:30 a.m.; the begin
ner and primary clinic, 2 to 4
p.m.; and the junior and inter
mediate clinic from 7 to 8 p.m.
At 12 noon a potluck luncheon
will be served, to which all are-l
invited. Drink and ice cream
will be served ,by the host
church. The climax of the con
ference will be a general session
at 8:15 p.m., on Monday, when
Mr. Dalton will speak on build
ing and maintaining a Sunday

topic of a series which the Tem
ple Baptist church pastor, the
Rev. Floyd H. Yeats, will give
beginning Sunday evening. The

Book II of Peler, chapters 5-7.
The sermons will continue for
eight Sundays. "Faith" will be
the title of next Sunday's subject.
