Aline Mosby vie, "The Ani
mal World," one of Warner Stu
dios supercolossal productions
for the year.
Producer Irwin Allen had
good luck with another movie
that didn't bother with live, two
footed actors, "The Sea Around
Us.".
"It was the biggest financial
aueeess -KOhad,i-4r$ifr;as''lrJtg
as Jane Russell, and It won an
Oscar. So I decided to make an
other picture without actors
a documentary on animals," Al
len said today.
"I love to make pictures with
out actors. No temperament and
they're alwoys on time in the
morning because they're the
enly actors you can lock away
at night."
Script History
For his "script" the producer
chose history the creation of
the earth three billion years ago
and the arrivnl of life two billion
years ago.
Models of the dinosaurs and
other such t?irifying thespians
"act' via animation on minature
sets of forests and plains. "The
animal world" will show dino
saurs for the first time in gor
geous wide-screen color, com
plete with bloody wounds as
they do their usual battle to the
death on the edge of a cliff.
Dinosaur toys and a book,
f'The Animal World" will satu
rate the stores soon. Allen ex
pects the Davy Crockett coon
skin cap fad will be replaced
by moppets clutching dinosaurs.
The rest of the movie will
show the development of ani
mal? and their place in legend
and history, from Hannibal to
modern zoos and household pets.
As for "The Sea Around Us,"
4he movie-makers of "The Ani
mal World" actually are scien
tists and explorers around the
world.
Wealth of Film
. Nearly two years ago Allen
wrote every zoo, university, mu
seum and government in tfle
wortd asking for film of animal
life. His office at Warner Studio
by now is crammed with cans
of film lion scenes from the
Union of South Africa, films of
microscopic organisms from the
University Netherlands, scenes
of leopards and tigers from the
British ' Mustoim.
' "Admiral , Byrd turned over
all of his penqum and polar bear
f Ums to, us," said Allen. "We will
have eventually 3,000,000 feet
of film, of which we'll use 10,
000." ; ; .
The movie company shot part
of the picture at the museum of
natural history in New York.
Oscar-winner -Allen used to
produce Groucho Marx come
dies, and he is happy to have
switched from . slapstick to
science.. ..
"This is a far cry from Grou
cho," admitted " the producer.
"Some nights I dream of being
chased by dinosaurs but Groucho
protects me."

American Eating Habits Provide Show
For Audiences in London Restaurants
By ROBERT MUSEL
. United Press Correspondent
London (U.R) Now that the
tourist season is underway every
Lbig restaurant has a floorshow.
, ine periormers are me Amer
ican tourists and the audience is
composed 'of native Britons.
They watch in fascinatipn how
Americans switch their knives
and forks while eating.
Sid Colin watches them par
ticularly intently. A movie
script writer by profession, he
gained some international fame
or notoriety a couple of years
ago by making a trans-Atlantic
radio broadcast suggesting Am
ericans should learn table man
ners. Blasts Procedure
He alleged it . was ridiculous
for a sensible man to cut food
with the knife held in the right
hand, drop the knife, pick up
the fork with the right hand,
eat the morsel, switch the fork
to the left hand, the knife to the
right hand, cut and shift, cut
and shift etcetera.
But Colin admits his critique
had little effect

Judgeship Lack
Blamed on Politics
Washington (U.R) Sen. Rich
ard L. Neuberger (D-Ore.) said
yesterday "politics" has pre
vented President Eisenhower
from filling a vacancy on the
U. S. District Court in Oregon.
. "It seems to be a case of poli
tics and patronage first and
judical needs second," Neuber
ger said in a Senate speech.
He said Judge James A. Fee
was elevated to the court of
appeals April 30, 1954.
"For 12 months since that
day, the Eisenhower administra
tion has virtually turned its
back upon the vacant judgeship
in Oregon while the Republican
party engaged in guerrilla war
fare over the job," said Neuber-
He said he, a Democrat, did
not expect to be consulted about
the appointment, but that it
should not be held up "because
of political skirmishing in the
Republican party over who
should get this choice plum."

not understand how Americans
contrive to make eating so com
plicated. Europeans hold the
fork always in the left hand, the
knife always in the right so
there is no shifting.
With both hands firmly grip
ping useful implements, Euro
peans do not have to use bread
surreptitiously as a "pusher" as
Sid claims he has often seen
Americans do.
Sly Finger as Pusher
"Occasionally," he avers. "I
have seen a bit of vegetable
pushed on to a fork with a sly
finger. This is certainly not
cricket."
Sid's big extracurricular cru
sade of the moment is to convince
Americans tney miss a lot by
eating in "sequence" instead of
in "combination."
For example, take a dish of
pork chops with French fried
potatoes and string beans. An
American, according to Sid. eats
a bit of pork, then he eats a bit
of potato and then he eats a bit
of string beans. A Briton con
fronted with the same dish
makes every mouthful a small
cross-section of the total offer
ing. .
Americans are inclined to re
gard this method as somewhat
messy. But it must have its
charms because, arter the inter
view, I went over to the Ameri
can embassy canteen and
watched the American staff at
lunch. Washington is herewith
advised that there is a lot of
un-American eating going on.
