Br UNITED PRESS
Six more youngsters who re
ceived inoculations of Salk anti
polio vaccine have come down
with Infantile paralysis. They
raised the total across the coun
try to 16. '
The new cases coincided with
a government plan to set up a
"polio intelligence network" to
check on all new polio out
breaks. Some state and city officials

preceded her in death in 1934.
She continued living at Browns

three children. She moved to
California in 1943 where she
lived until her demise. Beside
her daughter, Mrs. Bridges, she
left. two sons, H. Dean Tycer,
Eagle Point, and Lester D. of
Walnut Creek, Calif.; three sis

Mr.' and Mrs. Linn Hickman,

merly there was a goldfish pond,
thereby enhancing the beauty of
the whole front yard.
There seems to be so much ill

at present it is difficult to find
items of a more cheerful nature.
It is hoped with the final advent
of spring that all will be well
and happy again.
Mrs. Roy Swan, Eagle Point,

expressed concern over the situ
ation. Scheduled vaccinations of
school children were called off
in Utah and in Milwaukee,
Health Officer E. R. Krumbiegel
said he would not allow mass
inoculations until the vaccine
has been double tested.
The delay may hold up inocu
lation of Milwaukee youngsters
"all summer or longer," Krum
biegel said.
In Iowa's Jackson county,
mass inoculations were indefin
itely postponed just as they were
scheduled to start. Authorities
said their vaccine supply would
be kept under refrigeration
pending an investigation.
New Supply Shipped
, But other areas were going
ahead with their mass inocula
tion programs, reassured by
statements from health officials
that the Salk vaccine is safe and
effective.
California, where 11 of the
new cases have occurred, asked
for new supplies of the vaccine
to continue the program.
Vaccine .manufactured by the
Cutter Laboratories of Berke
ley, Calif., had been 'widely
used in the California vaccina
tions. But 15 children have come
down with the polio after receiv
ing Cutter vaccine shots and the
government has placed a tem
poraryNban on the laboratory's
product.
The National Foundation for
Infantile Paralysis said it would
air express 243,000 doses of Salk
vaccine to California to replace
the withdrawn Cutter vaccine.
' In addition to the 11 Califor
nia cases, two cnnaren wno re
ceived inoculations have become
afflicted in Idaho and one each
in Illinois, Colorado and Geor
gia. One of the Idaho children
died.
New Cases Reported
The new cases included three
in Los Angeles, one in Riverside,
Calif., one in Oakland and one
in Columbus, Ga.
The Georgia case raised a new
problem, since the six-year-old
boy came down with polio after
being inoculated by vaccine pro
duced by Eli Lilly & Co., of In
dianapolis. Eli Lilly is one of the major
suppliers of vaccine for the mass
inoculation program. But the
Public Health Service said the
single case was not enough to
justify a ban against Eli Lilly
vaccine and the company said
"it is not surprising" that one of
the 2,700,000 children receiving
the vaccine in 13 Southern states
had become ill.
Meanwhile, a Salt Lake City
doctor said his three children
developed 105-degree tempera
tures, muscular soreness and
stiffness five days after receiv
ing inoculations of Cutter vac
cine. "There is no doubt in my
mind my children had a reaction
from the vaccine," the physician
said.

The Association of O&C coun

O&C lands are for the most
part small pockets of federally
owned timber isolated by sur
rounding private holdings. If
denied access by private owners,
the government cannot harvest
the timber. Eighteen Oregon
counties under 1937 law receive
three-fourths of O&C timber
revenues.
Land owners at the hearing
