School Has Fair
Election of officers was held
at the last meeting of Howard
Parent-Teacher association, with
Mrs. Thomas Eaton named presi
dent. Other new officers are
Mrs. William Breedan, vice
president; Mrs. R. P. Henney,
secretary; Mrs. M. M. Hurt,
treasurer.
Mrs. Les Gilman, retiring
president, conducted the meet
ing. Harold Boner, principal, in
troduced members of the staff
and school board. Each mem
ber discussed briefly the past
year's work and the work and
goals for next year.
Three new teachers, William
Colley, Ruth Kay and Rachel
Kneebone were introduced.
Mrs. Dunn's second grade
room won the room count for
having the most parents pres
ent. During the evening an edu
cational fair was held with more
than 200 parents attending.
Work done by the students dur
ing the year was displayed.

Miss Norma Leonard, whose
wedding to Marvin Rosette, Ore
gon State college student, is set
for later this spring, was honor
ed at a shower last Friday. Host
esses were Mrs. L. W. Bates and
Mrs. Keith Bates, and the party
was at the former's home, 19
South Barneburg road.
Miss Leonard was presented
gifts of linen for her new home,

visit her parents, the bride-elect,
her mother, Mrs. Clyde W. Leon
ard, and her fiance's mother,
Mrs. Eleanor Ostrom of Port
land.
Mrs. Ostrom and her son were
both guests at the Leonard home
for the weekend. Saturday Mrs
Leonard was hostess for a small
luncheon which honored Mrs.
Ostrom, inviting guests to the
Leonard's home, 829 Minnesota
avenue.
The Rosette-Leonard wedding
is set for May 29 at First Metho
dist church here.

home from Portland where they
attended a family dinner which
honored Mr. Leonard's father,
S. J. Leonard, on his 90th birth
day anniversary. The dinner was
held at the Campbell court hotel.
Talent Students
Honor Mothers'
At Annual Tea
Talent The annual Mother's
Tea, honoring mothers of Talent
High school students, was held
in the new school last week. In
cluded on the program, which is
sponsored by the Talent High
School Girls league, were
style show, vocal numbers of a
girls sextet arid a tour of the
new building.
Committee chairmen included
Miss Bernice Lodge, refresh-
ments; Miss Myra Phelps, invita
tions; Miss Betty Jennings, cor
sages; and Miss Jeanne Henry,
decorations. Co-chairmen of the
program were Misses Irene John
son and Betty Jennings."

Niagara River Ferries
Slated To Be Rebuilt
Niagara Falls, Ont. U.R)
The two Niagara River ferries
which were heavily damaged by
fire last Friday will be rebuilt in
time for service this . summer,
Frank La Blonde, manager of
the Maid of the Mist Company,
said today.
Government inspectors had
approved plans for repairing the
ships and they would be back
in service "sometime in the
early part of June," he said. .V

Woman Wins Bridge Club Tournament

Mrs. Margaret Alcorn, one ofwith 287 points each; Raymond

in the Pacific northwest, won the
annual individual tournament of
Medford Duplicate Bridge club
played last weekend, the club
announced yesterday. Mrs. Al
corn scored 305 points yi two
sessions. Defending "champion
was Mrs. Josephine Clark.
Mrs. Alcorn, who is spending
several months with her mother
in Ashland, won the 1954 wom
en's pair summer tournament of
the American Contract Bridge
league, held in Washington D.C.,
with Miss Sally Neely of Okla
homa City as a partner. More
than 4,000 players participated.
Mrs. Alcorn and her partner also
won fourth place in the national
open pairs tournament.
The national tournament will
be held in Chicago this summer
and Mrs. Alcorn plans to de
fend her title.
