ington with his family to meet President Eisenhower at
the White House. .
Two Hardy Fliers Crossing
Pacific in Small Airplane
Honolulu (U.R) Two hardy
fliers landed in Honolulu early
Saturday completing the first
leg of a flight to Tokyo in a
light, private- plane which has
a normal cruising range of. 780
miles.
The pilot, Jack Ford, presi
dent of Fleetway, Inc., of Bur
bank, Calif., and unidentified
co-pilot, stepped from the twin
engined Beechcraft 14 hours and
10 minutes after they took off
from San Francisco's Interna
tional airport.
Airport officials were amazed
Ford's flight plan, filed in San
Francisco called for a fraction
under 14 hours flying time for

Gold Hill Grange
Gold Hill Grange met April
12 with Master Herman Kamp
presiding.
The Juvenile Matron stated
that eight essays had been turn
ed in by the Juveniles in the
State Grange contest.
Master Kamping thanked the
officers and members for their
attendance and. efforts April 19
when Gold Hill presented the
traveling lecturer's program at
the regular meeting of Eagle
Point Grange.
Appearing on the lecturer's
program were two guests, Princi
pal Sage of Gold Hill cshool,
with a timely talk . on . school
problems, and Wilmer Bailey,
alias Groucho Marx, who with
six grangers assisting, put on a
very good imitation of the "Bet
Your Life show.
Refreshments were served by
Mrs. Selma Kelley, the Louis
Loeflers, and Mr. and Mrs. Rob
ert Bush.
At the next meeting, May 12,
(postponed from May 5), the ser
ving committee will include
Nina Dusenberry, Mildred
Wright and the Walt Whitneys
H. E. C. will meet Wednes
day, April 17.
Juvenile Grange will meet
Thursday, April 28, at the usual
hour:

At the last meeting of Eagle
Point Grange 39 members of
Gold Hill Grange were guests
and presented the program,
Other Granges represented were
Shady Cove, Upper Rogue,' Sam's
Valley,' Live Oak, Eenterprise,
Griffin Creek, Central Point and
Phoenix also Jacksonville. ,
Pomona Master Herb Carlton
and Mrs. Carlton; two state offi
cers, Roscoe Roberts and Millie
McClain, State Juvenile. An
other Pomona officer,' Edyth
Poe, H. E. Chairman, was present.
The program, consisting of
illustrated vocal numbers, male
quartet, piano solo, humorous
skit and reading was thoroughly
enjoyed.
Bob Bitterling and Jake
Brown reported the seriousness
of the water shortage and dam
age to pastures and livestock.
Milroy Charley spoke of the
necessity for pest control.
For education, Roberta Hill
gave an enlightening talk on
Russian leaders and policies.
Next serving committee will
be Mr. and Mrs. Hubbel, Ethel
Leopard and Ida Kent.
H. E. club will meet on
Wednesday, April 27, at Carol
Climers.

Ford said that as far as he
knows, the projected trip to Ja
pan is unique for so small a
craft. However such trips are
routine over the Atlantic, he
said. Ford is delivering the palne
to its new owner.
Ford said he set his company
up in 1947 to ferry airplanes
any where in the world.

Leaves $10,000,000
Los .Angeles (U.R) The
will of the late Harvey Seeley
Mudd, mining engineer and phil
anthropist, Saturday listed be
quests which might total $10,
000,000 in value to members of
his family, employees here and
in New, York land educational
institutions. '
The document, signed May 8,
1953, was filed for probate in Su
perior Court today. Mudd died
April 12 at his Beverly Hills
home. He was 66.
Mudd's widow, Mrs. Mildred
E. Mudd, was left $2,500,000
and property in Beverly Hills.
His two children, Henry T.
Mudd and Mrs. Caryll Mudd
Sprague, were left $500,000
each.
Mudd left Claremont college
$500,000 and all real property
owned by him in Claremont.
Other bequests included $100,-
000 to Columbia university; $50,-
000 each to Stanford university,
Southwest Museum and Califor
nia Institute of Technology, and
$25,000 to the California Com
munity Foundation.

whelming majority of editors
polled at a breakfast given for
the American Society of News
paper editors believes President
Eisenhower and Democrat Adlai
E. Stevenson will be the presi
dential . nominees again next
year and that Mr. Eisenhower
will win.
The annual breakfast and poll
sponsored by the Washington
professional chapter of Sigma
Delta Chi, national journalism
fraternity, showed 88 editors
voting yes and 11 no on the
question whether Mr. Eisenhow
er will . be the 1956 Republi
can nominee. On the question
whether Stevenson will be the
Democratic "nominee, 74 voted
yes, 22 no.
The vote was 70 to 20 in favor
bf Mr. Eisenhower as to which
would be th ewinner if the Pres
ident and Stevenson are nomi
nees.
