Presbyterians Set
Whitworfh Concert
The "Whitwortn conege a cap
pella choir of Spokane, "Wash.,
is scheduled to present a sacred
concert program at the First
Presbyterian church, .Thursday,
April 28 at 8 p. m.
The choral group of 47 voice
hag been heard in leading cities
of the west, and this year is in
cluding concert presentations in
Richland and Yakima, Wash.;
Portland and Klamath Falls; and
Oakland, San Jose, Stockton,
Fresno, Pasadena, Los Angeles,
San Diego, and Palm Springs,
Calif. The membership is drawn
from eight states and two foreign
countries.
Under the direction of Profes
sor Wilbur L. Anders, now in his
eighth year as the choir's con
ductor, the group will offer a
cross - section of outstanding
choral literature.
Bethel Baptists Will
See Film on Sunday
"I Saw Borneo," is the title of
a souna motion picture in color
. which will be shown Sunday at
:8 p.m., in the Bethel Baptist
church, 11 South Newtown st.
Dr. Louis T. Talbot of the Bible
Institute of Los Angeles, will
present the film.
. The picture subject concerns
missionary work., No admission
will be charged but a free will
offering will be taken, as is the
custom for this type of film,
cnurch officers pointed out.
Scenes will include rubber
making, Christian Dyak tribes
men, , jungle dentistry, native
headhunter dance, former head-
hunters and jungle scenery.
Program Announced
Dr. D. Kirkland West will
preach at the First Presbyterian
church on the subject "Religion
Without Tears" at, both morn
ing services Sunday, and he will
be heard over KMED from 10
to 10:30 a. m. At the evening
service at 7 p. m. a color film,
"People Without Fear," will be
shown.
The Westminster fellowship
will be in charge of Miss Nancy
McKeown and Miss Kaye Christ
ian ''and the subject will be
"India, the Land of Opportun
ity." Fireside will be at the home
of Miss Nancy McKeown, 109
South, Orange st.
Music, under the direction of
Allan Lehl will include anthems
by the two choirs and a solo by
Mrs. Effie Kurtz.

Revival Continues
The Rer. and Mrs. Mark Wad
dell of Toledo, O., are continu
ing revival services at the Med-
ford Pilgrim Holiness church,
East Jackson at Bessie sts. Both
are singers and musicians and
he is a graduate of Frankfort
Pilgrim college of Frankfort,
Ind.
Beginning Monday, April 25.
Mrs. Waddell will conduct
children's services at the church,
open to all children between the
ages oZ 5 through 12. The classes
will be held, from 3:45 to 4:30
p.m. Flannelgraph lessons will
be given.
The; schedule of . services an
nounced by the pastor, the Rev.
Sherman . Moore, include serv
ices each evening at 7:30 o'clock
except Monday, and on Sunday
an 11 a.m. service will be held.

Gideons To Mark
10th Anniversary
The 1 0th anniversary - of the
Rogue Valley Gideons organi
zation will be observed Satur
day and Sunday, April 23 and
24.
A banquet and rally is sched
uled for 6:45 p.m., Saturday, at
the First Christian ohurch, Ninth
st. and Oakdale ave. . William
McCallum, state president, will
be the main speaker.
Delegates representing camps
of Gideons in the state also will
be here for the event. A musical
program is planned and reports
will be made. .

Gideon teams will conduct
church servides' at numerous
churches'" throughout the valley.

Nazarenes To Conduct
College Day: Service
Christian college day . will be
observed in the morning wprship
service of the Church of the
Nazarene, Holly at First sts., in
Medf ord on Sunday, April 24.
The pastor. Rev. R. ,W. Hum,
will speak on the subject, "Build
ing a Firm Foundation." Music
will be presented by the choir
and women's trio. .
Series Planned
A Sunday - evening series of
sermons has been planned by the
pastor, to conclude on Pentecost
Sunday, May 29. From the gen
eral theme of, "From the Empty
Tomb to the Upper Room," the
Sunday evening message will be
entitled "A Holy Heartburn."
The church's statistical year
will close Sunday, April 24. The
annual church meeting elections
have been set for May 4.
Central Point Rural Fire Budget Proposed
Central Poin $30,370 budget
for fiscal year 1955-56 has been
proposed for ' the Central Point
Rural Fire Protection district by
the budget committee and the
board of directors. The budget
shows an increase over last
year's $28,607.
A public hearing on the pro
posed budget will be held at 7:30
p.m. Thursday, May 12, and an
election date will be announced
after the hearing.
Ray W. Wyatt is chairman of
the budget committee, which
also includes Charles Bateman,
Franklin Gebhard, Mrs. Ernes
tine Charley and Fred Hall. The
board of directors for the district
are Dr. Alvin Roberts, David L.
deArmond, Claude Hoover,
Larry Hull and Bert Smith.

Rogue River School Board Post Filled By Carlton Sandeen
Appointment of Carlton E.
Sandeen, Rogue River contrac
tor, to-fill a vacancy on the
Rogue River school board, was
announced today by Alf Mek
vold, Jackson county superint
end of schools.
The vacancy on the board has
existed since March 21, when
Mrs. Jessie Rae Franz, board
chairman, submitted her resig
nation. ; The new chairman will be
either R. C. Gail or Harold W.
Salter, the other two board
members.
Sandeen will serve until the
school . district's next annual
meeting, which is scheduled for
June 20. At that time a board
member will be elected to serve
out the unexpired one year of
Ralph Lattie Opens
Central Point Cafe
Central oPint Ralph Lattie,
former chef at Rogue Valley
Country club and Jackson hotel
in Medford, opened Ralph's Mill
cafe in Central Point yesterday.
Lattie was chef at the Rogue
Valley Country club two years
and at the Jackson hotel three
years. He will be assisted in
operating the Central Point cafe
by his wife, Marie. Lattie has
been in the restaurant business
for 29 years.

Also up for election at that
time will be the board position
held by Salter, who will be com
pleting his regular term in of
fice. No candidates for the posi
tion have been announced.
Sandeen's appointment was
made by Mekvold because no
election to fill the post "had been
conducted. Law requires - that
the county superintendent make
such an appointment within 30
days when no election is held in
the district.
Evans Valley sources 'have in
dicated that an election will be
held in that district to fill a va
cancy created by the resignation
of Samuel B. Smith, a board
member who is moving from the
