teachers and ministers is as im
portant as it always was, accord
ing to the Yale Divinity School.
The Rev. Everett C. Parker,
lecturer In religious radio and
television at Yale, said this was
revealed by research which took
samplings of opinion from seve
ral thousand New Haven homes.
Parker said the study, part ot
a three - year survey of mass
communication media used by
churches, showed that children
who watch religious - films at
Sunday School are better in
formed than those who must
rely solely on teachers and the
printed word.
He said movies open doors to
children and make them recep
tive to religious ideas. '
However, he emphasized that
lesearchers found churches still
must rely on person-to-person
contact to develop in children
a sense of Christian dedication
and service. .

movies was the quality of the
films themselves, he said.
"Too many," he said, "suffer
from poor scripts, lack of good
direction and mediocre perform
ances. "In some cases Biblical stories
are distorted and too often apos
tles and prophets made to ap
pear as aged characters, instead
of portraying them as they were
vigorous, active human be

feminate and artificial, and
therefore, to today's children,
unconvincing in what he says

No Bargain Rates
On Wedding Licenses
Hillsboro, 111. (U.R) , There
aren't any bargain rates on wed
ding licenses in Montgomery
County, even though the figures
might seem to indicate that.
A curious reporter questioned
the figure of $751 for marriage
license receipts, shown in the an
nual county audit.
How come? he asked. The fig
ure wasn't divisible by "three.
Had .someone short - changed
County Clerk Eunice Russell, or
had there perhaps been a case
where someone got a cut rate.
Mrs. Russell .was puzzled at
first. On checking, however, she
found there had been $1 left
over at the end of 1952 when the
county's fee for marriage li
censes was boosted from $1 to
$3.
Americans drank an average
of about 17 gallons of beer and
other malt brews. per person in
a recent year, about four quarts
of hard liquor and four quarts
of wine.

sionaries took - up assignments
throughout the world last year.
