On Salk Vaccine
Portland U.R) No further
word has been received by the
tat board ot health ai to when
the Salk polio vaccine will be
available for state-wide use,
was announced today.
Inoculations were originally
eheduled to start today, but
wer postponed at least one
week pending the arrival of tht
vaccine. Dr. Harold Erickson,
state health officer, said he had
not yet received definite wora
when the vaccine will eet here.
Dr. Hart Van Riper, medical
director of the national founda
tion for infantile paralysis at
New York, told Dr. Erickson
there had been some depletion
in supplies and also some delay
to permit the National Institute
of Health to complete checking
the vaccine .records.

is more affectionate and spends
more time with me. I would
like to feel that we are one
large, happy family but Z can

does. I have treated both girls
alike all their lives so I cannot
understand ..the ..difference ..in
their behavior. Can you throw
some light on this problem?
(A) You may feel that you
have treated both exactly alike,
but I question whether you ac
tually have Because the young
er daughter is more responsive,
you have doubtless shown her
more affection. The older daugh
ert has probbaly resented this.
When young women marry, it
is natural 'and right for them
to bn maimy interested in their
own homes and families. The
woman who makes the greatest
success of her marriage follows
this patterns.
Thus, of course, does not mean
that she should lose interest in
ber parental family. But if shs
is doing a good job of being a
wife and mother she cannot give
as much time to them as she did
before she married.
If you want your older daugh
ter to take her place as a mem
ber of a big happy, family
group, you must let her know
how much her presence means
to all of you. Going on the as
sumption that she feels you pra
fer the younger daughter to her,
you should bend over backwards
to be loving to her, even if she
is not too responsive.
Jealousy can and often does
carry over to adult years. The
younger daughter has come out
with the lion's share of your
time and affection up to now.
Now it is time to make up for
the past in the case of your older
daughter.
