Colorado River
Swimmers Sought
Grand Canyon, Ariz. (U.R)
The sheriffs office at Flagstaff,
Ariz., was alerted today to look
for two Los Angeles men who
reportedly started a week ago
to swim a portion of the Colo
rado river.
The two men were identified
as William K. Beer, 25, and John
Daggett, '27.
Preston Patrow," superinten
dent of Grand Canyon National
Park said he had received a re
quest to search for the two men
from Mrs. Sidney J. Graham, San
Diego, an aunt of Beer.
Mrs. Graham said the two
planned swimming from Marble
Canyon to Phantom Ranch in
Grand Canyon. She said they
were to have arrived at Bright
Angel Creek yesterday.

Russians Threaten
Protests to U.N.
Moscow (U.R) Russia
has threatened to protest to the
United Nations that the United
States and Britain are trying to
"pressure" near the middle East
ern Nations into Western-dominated
military alliances.
The Russian statement was
made at a Foreign Ministry news
conference. It said the Soviet
Union will lodge a protest with
the United Nations unless al
leged American and British
"pressure" in the near and mid
dle East is stopped.
The Soviet Union accused the
two Western Powers of taking
"measures calculated to involve
by a devious way, singly or two
at a time, the countries of the
near and middle East in this or
that grouping created under
their domination."
Norwegian whaling expedi
tions produced 317,000 barrels
of oil during the first 29 davs
of the 1955 Antarctic season.

WHY DISSECT THE THROAT?
Certainly I have no more skill
or knowledge in the matter of
enlargement (hypertrophy) of
the tonsils or
infection of the
tonsils than
any doctor has
or should have.
On the other
hand I profess
to know as
much about en
larged or in
fected tonsils
as most doctors
Dr. Brady do.
The atrocious major operation
called "tonsillectomy" (complete
removal of the tonsil) is really
only aggravated, gorified
(bloody) tonsillotomy (removal
of part of the tonsil), for sta
tistics show that in most in
stances portions of tonsil remain
in the throat after recovery if
the victim recovers from "ton
silectomy." Genuine tonsillotomy remov
al of the obstructing portion of
the tonsil is a minor operation,
as instantaneous and as safe as
extraction of a tooth, rarely if
ever giving rise to serious com
plications or consequences.
The aim and boast of the ever
ready operators of yesteryear,
that "tonsillectomy gets every bit
of tonsil, whereas tonsillotomy
merely slices off part of the ton
sil" betrays ignorance of path
ology. The only conceivable jus
tification for the attempt to "get
every bit pf tonsil" would be
knowledge or at least suspicion
that tonsil tissue is malignant or
otherwise harmful or dangerous.
This is absurd. Yet it is the
stock sales argument of the per
petrators of tonsillectomy, de
spite the fact that portions of ton
sil remain in the throat after
the atrocity, no matter who com
mits it.
How many children die on the
operating table or following this
unwarranted operation we can
only surmise, for the perpetra
tors and the institutions where
it occurs conspire to conceal the
facts from the public. But in
some cases the child's death is
associated with "removal of the
tonsils" even - though the "au
thorities" try to blame is on
"cardiac arrest," shock, hemor
rhage, embolism, aspiration
pneumonia, etc.
"Cardiac arrest" means simply
that the heart has stopped beat
ing. A bit of inanity that im
presses some customers.
Embolism means that a bit of
blood clot or a bit of tonsil or
throat tissue gets into ah open
vessel and is carried in the blood
to lodge in lung, brain or other
distant area shutting off the cir
culation to the area.
Aspiration pneumonia means
lung inflammation produced by
foreign matter getting into the
breathing passages and lodging
in the lung where it sets up inflammation.
