Swede Halbrook, 7-foot 3-inch
star and all-coast selection this
year for the OSC Beavers, may

Oakland's "murderers row" of
George Metkovich, Jim Marshall
and Joe Brovia put the Sacra
mento Solons on notice that they
had better enjoy their perch atop
the Pacific Coast League while
they can.
These three sluggers badly
mauled Seattle pitchers last week
to justify manager Lefty O'Doul's
contention that he had nothing
to worry about in the hitting de
partment. But until Friday night
the trio had been tamed to near
submission as the Oaks dropped
three straight to Sacramento.
Brovia Homers
Then came Friday night's
game.
Led by Brovia who homered
twice and drove in six runs, Met
kovich and Marshall were joined
by Bob Swift in a 12-hit attack
that demolished the Sacs, 10-2.
While righthander Dick Strahs
was holding the Solons to six

hits, Marshall three and Swift
three, including a homer, to hand
Sacramento its worst licking of

The Willow Creek reservoir,
northeast of Medford, will open
for trout fishing May 28, Robert
L. Lee, assistant superintendent
of the water commission, has
been informed by the Oregon
State Game commission.
Lee said he asked the state
commission about the opening
date after he received several
inquiries from local sportsmen.
Fred.E. Locke, chief of lake
and stream management of the
state commission, said the sea
son would open May 28 be
cause preliminary test
netting "indicates that later op
ening is desirable to permit
more trout to reach the mini
mum legal size length." He also
said the reservoir is within the
boundaries of the Rogue River
National forest.
"Once the fishery is establish
ed," Locke continued, "we hope
to open this reservoir with the
general summer trout season as

Louis, was threatened, however,

after missing a putt of less than

in the picnic area on the west

The maximum boat speed on
the reservoir will be limited to
10 miles per hour, Lee said, be
cause of wave action along the
shore and for protection of fish
