Mother Alarmed at Gossip
About Teen-Age Daughter
Where there's smoke, there's
fire, as the old saying goes. A
mother writes:
(Q) "One of my good friends
told me that
there is quite
a lot of gossip
going around
about my 16-year-old
daughter. Ac
cording to my
friend, the gos
siperi claim
that she is in
Dr. Hurlock love with a
married man whose vrife is a
very nice young woman I have
known casually since she came
to our neighborhood as a bride
two years .ago. Her husband
seems like a nice, sensible chap
and always seemed to be very
much in love with' his wife.
"I know my daughter has often
talked about how attractive he is
and seemed much interested in
his wife too. She may have had a
schoolgirl crush on this young
man, but I am sure it is no more
than that. However, people are

Washington (U.R) The
House Appropriations , Commit

The major items:
State. $126,769,977, a cut of
$240,497,220 below budget re

cut of $3,960,000; U. S. Informa

$16,000,000, no cut; FBI, $88,
000,000, no cut; and Immigra

The committee approved with

saying that she is madly in love
with him and is irving to break
up his marriage. Naturally, I am
very much upset about this be
cause the boys are not asking her
for dates as they used to and I
notice that most of the girls she
has gone with in the past do not
call her or do things with her.
What would you advise me to'
do?"
(A) Find out first from your
daughter just how she feels
about this young man. Surely
you know where she goes when
she is away from home in the
late afternoons or evenings, or
over the week-ends. Have you
any reason to believe that she
has been seeing him?
If he is as much in love with
his wife as you think he is, it is
very doubtful that he thinks of
her as more than a "nice kid." I
doubt that he has any interest in
her other than as a neighbor.
However, a teenage girl can
get herself into a lot of trouble
by her extravagant talking. She
may have a crush on this man,
talk about how "divine" he is,
etc., and may even have said that
she would like to get him away
from his wife.
Sometimes such harmless
statements from a teenager are
misinterpreted by adults- and
pbefore you know what is happen
ing, the gossip spreads that she
is having an affair with the man.
Get at the root of the trouble
right away before the gossip
ruins your daughter's reoutation
and makes trouble for the young
woman whose husband may be
the innocent victim of a school
girl crush. "

Trains Crossing Runways
Concerns Airplane Guides
Stockholm (U.R) This sum
mer will be hotter than ever for
traffic officers at Visby Air
port. They have to guide planes
down safely as usual, but at the
same time they must look out
for trains crossing the runways.
All this will be the result of
increasing air traffic to Visby,
the only town on the Gotland
Island in the Baltic. Another
runway is to be built to take
care of DC-6 ships, but it must
cross an already existing rail-
road. Five times a day officials
will have to stop trains at this
i.nique railroad-runway junction
before giving landing planes the
green light. .
Salem (U.R) The Oregon
Supreme Court has ruled that
Marshall N. Dana is qualified
to serve on the Portland Commis

he lives outside the Portland
city limits.
Population of Greater. Tokyo
is 7,593,000, an increase., of
