Couple Wed
In California
Mr. and Mrs. Harlan Page
Bosworth IV, married March 21
at Hamilton Air Force base,
Hamilton, -Calif., are now living
in San Raphael, Calif., at 121
Reservoir road. Both are in the
United States Air Force.
Mrs. Bosworth is the former
Rose Marie Pandolph, daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Pandolph,
Woburn, Mass., and the bride
groom's parents are Mr. and
Mrs. Harlan P. Bosworth Jr.,
2425 East Main street, Medford.
The candlelight service took
place at 7 o'clock in the evening
and was read by Chaplain Simon
H. Scott Jr., captain in the
USAF. Karl Hansen gave the
bride in marriage.
Miss Helene Struzik attended
the bride, and Charles Emert
was best man. Tom LaCross and
James Wingerter were ushers.
Mrs. Ismae E. Nicholls was at
the organ, and Don Smith sang.
The. bride's gown of tradi
tional white satin was designed
with net yoke and wide shoulder
ruffle, and the full skirt ended
In a chapel-length train. Her
veil was held by a pearl tiara
and she carried a white Bible
with a white orchid.
The honor attendant wore a
frock of blue lace and carried
an old-fashioned nosegay.
The reception which followed
was in the base service club
Pouring and serving were Miss
Lois Eyres, Miss Rilly Griffen
and Miss Shirley Simmons. The
serving tables were covered
with pink organdy table cloths
and bouquets of pink flowering
cherry and white stock, ar
ranged by the bridegroom's
mother, decorated the tables and
club room.
Mr. Bosworth and his bride
spent their honeymoon in San
Mateo. The bride, a member of
the Women's Air Force commu
nications service for one and
one-half years, will be released
this month. The bridegroom has
17 months yet to serve of his
four-year enlistment term in the
USAF, and he is assigned to duty
with the 573 Air Force band
squadron. He was graduated
from Miami university in 1952
where he majored in music, and
is an accomplished cellist.
The newlyweds plan to visit
in Medford in June.
In California for the wedding
were the bridegroom's parents,
his brother, Dave Bosworth,
another brother and sister-in-law,
Mr. and Mrs. Robert L. Bos
worth; his grandfather, O. V,
Myers and his aunt and cousin,
Mrs. H. M. Peirce and Maxwell
Peirce of Medford and Los An
geles. Other guests included
Mrs. Mary Carpenter, Woburn,
Mass.; Mrs. Ann Davis, San
Francisco; Mrs. John H. Part
ridge, Sausalito, Calif.; Mrs.
Addison, San Rafael; Mr. and
Mrs. L. A. Nott, Piedmont,
Calif.; and - Mrs. Lydia Brauze,
the bride's supervisor at Ham
ilton field. The bride's family
was unable to make the trip
west for the wedding.
Plan Open House
For Medford Man
W. R. Bullock will be hon
ored at an open house Friday,
April 15, which will observe his
90th birthday anniversary. Mr.
Bullock has . lived in Medford
since 1900.
The event will be at the Bul
lock home, 615 North Columbus
avenue, and friends are invited
to call between the hours of one
and five o'clock. Hosts for the
open house will be Mr. Bullock's
sons and daughters.
Mr. Bullock is a native ' of
Iowa.

Two Guilds Plan
Tea at Blackoaks
During Sessions
Shady Cove Final plans for
a tea to be given at Blackoak's
during the coming diocesan con
vention of the Episcopal church
were made at the last meeting
of St. Martin's guild. The meet
ing was held at the home of Mrs.
Arthur E. Hume.
The convention will be held
April 17-19 at St. Mark's church
in Medford and the tea is set for
April 18. It will be jointly spon
sored by the Prospect and Shady
Cove guilds. Blackoaks is the
home and property on the Rogue
River recently acquired by the
Episcopal church for use as a
conference center.
Next meeting of St. Martin's
guild will be held May 2 at the
home of Mrs. Glen Anderlon at
8 p.m. Mrs. James Hopkins will
be hostess.
Refreshments closed the meet
ing held at the Hume home.
The variety show sponsored
by St. Martin's guild, April 2 in
the Shady Cove school gymna
sium was a most successful
event, and attracted a large au
dience. Mrs. Hume, ways and
means chairman for the guild,
planned and executed the proj
ect.
The French cancan dancers,
a "Hearts of Stone" number and
other entertainment made up
the show. Talent was chosen
from Prospect, Trail, Shady
Cove and the vicinity.
Proceeds from the show went
to St. Martin's Episcopal church
building fund.
The guild expresses its appre
ciation to Mrs. Hume and all
others who aided the project.
Jeanine Findley
Queen Candidate
Miss Jeanine Findley will be
one of the 10 .senior coeds at
Willamette university who may
be selected Tuesday for the
May queen court to reign over
Willamette s annual May week
end May 5, 6 and 7. Miss Find
ley, a daughter of Dr. and Mrs
Dwight H. Findley, Old Stage
road, was chosen recently as one
of the candidates.
Three of the 10 will be se
lected and a final balloting will
be held. April 18 to determine
the May queen. The other two
will be attendants.

Gives Program
For Study Club
Wednesday Study club enter

Study club at Girls' Community
club April 6. The program for
the afternoon was given by Mrs.
Mark Goldy for her mother, Mrs.
Susan Campbell. Mrs. Goldy
showed colored slides and told
of a trip by boat from California
through the Panama canal to
Caracas, Venezuela, which she
and her .husband made. The
scenes and stories of Brazilian
and Argentinian' cities, a trip
across the lakes to Chile on up
to Peru proved interesting.
The club rooms were bright
ened with large bouquets of
flowering plum and the tea table
held a centerpiece of yellow
candles and daffodils. Each plate
had a small cluster of daphne on
one Bide.

land club and Mrs. F. K. Deuel
poured.

Mothers' Club
To Give Benefit
Luncheon, Show
Members of the southern Ore
gon section of the University of
Oregon Mother's association
will sponsor a luncheon and
style show Saturday, April 6 at
12:30 p.m. The event, themed
to "Mothers Weekend at the
Campus," will be held at the
Rogue Valley Country club and
is for the purpose of raising
scholarship funds.
Those who plan to attend
should make reservations by
Thursday, April 14, by calling
the club, telephone 2-5965. Ap
parel will include styles for
both mothers and students.
In keeping with the "weekend
on campus" theme, the show
will portray students greeting
mothers on their arrival on cam
pus, mother's breakfast, a picnic
attended ,by mothers, daughter
and sons, float parade on the
mill-race, the prom, a tea, Sun
day morning church and dinner
at the various living groups.
Mrs. Allan Perry will be com
mentator and music will be pro
vided by George Sloniger.
Mrs. L. G. Frink, president of
the sponsoring group, points out
that last year 500 applications
for freshmen scholarships were
received at the university, and
that this year an estimated 600
students are expected to apply.
The scholarship project is sup
ported by members of the
Mothers' association through the
state.

Guests at Dinner
Mr. and Mrs. Dave Brainerd
and daughters, Lynn and Jan,
were dinner guests Monday
evening of Mr. Brainerd's
brother and sister-in-law, the
Phil Brainerds, at their home,
226 Valley View drive.
The Dave Brainerds, who for
merly made their home here
when the two men were asso
ciated together at Brainerd's
studio, are now living in Peta
luma, Calif., where Mr. Brain
erd operates a camera shop.
The Brainerds came north to
visit Mr. Brainerd's mother, Mrs.
Phil Brainerd Sr., in Grants
Pass, and she was also a guest
at the dinner.
Medford Woman
Leaves for Salem
Mrs. Ethel Chadwick left last
week for Salem to visit her
brother and sister-in-law, Rep
resentative and Mrs. Al Littrell
in Salem for the 1955 session of
the legislature. From Salem Mrs.
Chadwick plans to go to Port
land to visit friends, and will
return to Medford in about two
weeks.
Mrs. Chadwick spent the win
ter in Phoenix, Ariz., with her
daughter, Mrs. John Koppen and
reports that the winter was one
of the coldest on record for
Arizona.

Cancer Society
Announces Tea -
The annual silver tea given
each year as a benefit for the
American Cancer society will be
held April 26. As in past years,
it will be held in the main resi
dence at Hillcrest orchard.
The Jackson county commit
tee, headed by Mrs. John S. Day,
sponsors the event each year.
Hobbies and collections of sev
eral valley collectors will be
displayed. '
It is pointed out that 60 cents
of every dollar collected in
Medford will be retained by the
state in which the funds are con
tributed, and will be devoted to
state and community programs
of cancer control.
Another 25 per cent will go
for research grants to assist
nearly 1,000 cancer investigators
in 132 selected institutions.
Twelve per cent will be allo
cated to the Cancer society's na
tional office, while the final
three per cent will be used for
medical grants to institutions
and fellowships to individuals.

Receive Prizes
For March Play
Prizes for March were award
ed at a meeting of the women
golfers of Rogue Valley Coun
try club during the monthly
luncheon and business meeting
Thursday. Mrt. Warren Lesseg,
general chairman, presided.
The prizes were awarded by
Mrs. B. L. Nutting, chairman oi
the awards committee. The tro
phy for winter play was pre
sented to Mrs. Thomas Culbert
son Jr.
George Harrington thanked
the women golfers for their co
operation during the recent Ore
gon open tournament. He an
nounce! that the first mixed two
ball foursome has been planned
for Sunday, April 17, at 2 p.m.
Mrs. Roger Clark, rules chair
man, announced that summer
rules were in effect for those
playing in the spring handicap
and the first round is to be com
pleted by next Tuesday.
Sixty new members are tak
ing the beginners group lessons.
Due to the large number, the
lessons will be given Thursdays
at 10 a.m., 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. Al
Williams, instructor, requests all
beginners to bring a wocd for
next Thursday's lesson Regular

Reorganized
Orchestra Plans
Spring Concert
Richard D. Werner, who last
winter resumed musical director
ship of the Philharmonic Society
of Southern Oregon, announces
that the group is planning a con
cert May 5.
The society, which has been
inactive for the past three years,
will confine its musical activities
to orchestrical compositions with
the addition of vocal and instru
mental soloists, the director an
nounces. The reorganized orchestra has
been rehearsing for the past sev
eral months and Mr. Werner
states that he is pleased with the
quality of the personnel.
The coming concert will be
held in Medford Senior High
school auditorium. Soloists will
be announced soon.
Thomdikes Home
From Trip Abroad
Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Thorn
dike, who left Medford in mid
December for southern Europe,
returned to their home at 55
The Thorndikes took a cargo
South Barkeley way last week,
liner to Barcelona, Spain, spent
some time on the island of Mar
jorca and then returned to
Spain. They visited Valencia,
Malaga, Granada, Seville and
other cities, traveling by public
bus.
Later the travelers visited Lis
bon, Portugal, and flew to Tan
gier in North Africa for a brief
stay. They sailed from Gibral
tar on the Constitution for the
return trip, docking in New
York.

Stanford Students
To Attend School
At St. Andrew's
Two young Medford women,
now students at Stanford univer
sity, are making plans for a
year's study in Scotland at St.
Andrews university. The two
are Miss Ellen West, and Miss
Kathryn McAllister, daughters
of Dr. and Mrs. D. K. West, and
Mr. and Mrs. William Mc
Allister. Both are sophomores
and they will leave in September
to take their junior year at the
Scottish school. They are politi
cal science majors.
The two are graduates of Med
ford Senior High school where
Miss West was editor of the
Crater, year book, and Miss Mc
Allister was assistant editor,
during their senior year. The
publication was awarded the
Ail-American rating for high
school annuals that year.

Mrs. Albert L. James was
hostess for a morning coffee
party Wednesday which honored
Miss Carolyn Shangle. Miss
Shangle, whose wedding to Ber
nie Mueller of "Palatine, 111., is
set for Tuesday, April 12, was
given a recipe shower during
the morning.
Fifteen guests attended, in

Shangle s friends home
