Today is Easter Sunday, the day when
the Christian world observes the resurrec
tion of Christ and everyone rejoices in the
coming of spring, the time when the sun
again shines warm, the grass turns green
and flowers bloom.
Following the example of Mother
Nature, who dresses the earth anew each
spring, all will wear their prettiest
and newest clothing and many will ex
change Easter presents. Eggs, brightly
colored and decorated, are the traditional
Easter Sunday gift for youngsters. The
egg became a part of the Easter tradition
because it is a symbol of creation and new
life used by the early Greeks, Gauls and
Romans.
According to Persian legend, the world
was hatched from an egg on the vernal
equinox, or first day of spring, and it Is
said that they started the custom of dying
and exchanging eggs as good luck charms.
The word Easter is derived from Eostra,
pagan goddess of spring, and from this
goddess comes the legend of the Easter
rabbit. To delight children long ago, the
legend says, Eostra magically changed her
pet bird into the familiar Easter bunny and
that's why he builds a nest and lays colored

Every year Medford Kiwanls
club members stage an Easter
egg hunt in Hawthorne park for
children of the city. Last year
about 3,000 took part, and the
club planned for as many for
this year's hunt, held yesterday.

White lilies are the traditional Easter flower, and these blossoms will
be used today to decorate churches, homes and dinner tables. The lily is
associated with Easter because it is the symbol of purity and light. Pictured
here with dozens of the beautiful and fragrant blooms are Mrs. Orville

Medford shops have been filled with a colorful array of be-ribboned
Easter baskets for the past few weeks, and many fortunate small fry have
been allowed to choose the one most to their liking. Pictured here is little
