Algeria Under
Emergency Decree
Paris - (U.R) France de
clared a state of emergency to
day in Algeria to give Premier
Edgard Faure a free hand in
wiping out the rebellious "Army
of Allah" and end its campaign
of Nationalistic terror.
The National Assembly passed
the law a week ago. A decree
published today in the official
journal put the emergency mea
sures in operation in Algeria,
legally a part of metropolitan
France.
It gives Faure full . authority
to ban public gatherings and
close down public, places such
as cafes and movie houses. It
gives him wide powers to cen
sor press and radio.
The measures coincided with
reports of new. violence in Al
geria. Police said ten rebels
were slain in the mountains in
a clash with Foreign Legion
elements the night of April 5-6,
bringing to 15 the number of
rebels killed in the past two
days. Another 48 have been ar
rested.

Recluse Found
To Have Hoard
Saginaw, Mich. (U.R) Po
lice today searched the hovel of
a recluse who wore no shoes
but had at least $12,000 in cash,

from his battered bed to take

In the process, an officer kick

the bed. Silver dollars spilled
from the beer can among the
rubbish strewn on the floor.
After taking Trarup to the

$1,310 in cash, $10,646 in bank
accounts and . numerous other
stocks of undetermined value.
"We turned over a dilapidated

ed like hitting the jackpot of a
slot machine," one policeman
said. "Coins fell everywhere.'
