her friends think she it tied to
her parents' apron strings. How
can I convince my husband that
he should get out of the room
when the young people are hav
ing a party?
(A) I am sure you can tell
him tactfully that young people
like to be alone and that it is
best not to try to monopolize
their time, even if he does enjoy
talking to them. Suggest that he
recall his own youth and how he
felt about such matters when he
was your daughter's age.
When he becomes so engrossed
in a conversation with some of
your daughter's guests that it
looks as if he were planning to
stay with them for the rest of
the evening, think up some good
reason for calling him out of the
room and keeping him out. You
can always have him help you
with the refreshments.
Use the same tactics when the
boys come to take your daugh
ter out for a date. If you see
that he is delaying them, you
can tactfully end the conversa
tion by saying they will miss the
first dance or the first part of
the movie unless they get
started.
