Convention Dates
Set in September
For Sunday Schools
The date for a Sunday school
convention in Medford were set
this week for September 20
through 22 by representatives
from several local churches who
met with the Rev. Ulphin O.
Davis, northwest regional rep
resentatives of the National
Sunday School association.
It is planned that outstanding
speakers and workers in the
Sunday school field would be
brought to this area for the con
vention. All phases of Sunday
school programs would be
studied in workshop sessions
during the day and an inspira
tional service will be held each
night.
Officers Elected
Officers were elected to com
plete the planning and work for
the convention. They include
the Rev. Clynton Crisman. chair
man, the Rev. Sherman Moore,
the Rev. Perry Johnson, the
Rev. Wildon Colbaugh, and Mrs.
Grover Corum on the executive
committee.

First Baptists To
Hear Albany Choir
Music for the 11 o'clock morn
ing worship service of the First
Baptist church Sunday will be
provided by the Male chorus of
the First Baptist church of Al
bany, Ore. The group is com
posed of 27 laymen of the Al
bany church who have been
singing together as a chous for
about two and a half years. The
men with their leader, Arie
Groatenhuis, have been singing
In a number of churches in the
state and will come to Medford
from Klamath Falls.
The chorus will sing during
the service and will take the
place of the usual choir. The
Rev. James W. Neely will use
as his sermon subject for the
morning, "Planning Without
God."
The lour Baptist league
groups, junior through adult,
will hold their regular meetings
at 6:30 p.m., and the evening
service will begin at 7:30
o'clock.
Hazarenes Announce
Music Series Program
The last Sunday of each month
has been designated as music
night at the Church of the Naza
rene. Next Sunday evening the
second program of this series
will be presented at 7:30 p.m.
Sunday's program will consist
only of request numbers sub
mitted by the congregation. In
cluded will be selections by the
Sanctuary choir, male chorus,
ladies sextet, and a male quar
tet. Sunday morning the Rev.
Hurn will speak on the theme,
"Keeping The Victory." Mrs.
Dorothy Rees, lyric soprano, will
present a solo.
Of interest to children of jun
ior age and to high school stu
dents are the instruction classes
which are held each Saturday in
the educational building. The
general theme of these classes is,
"What We Befieve." The junior
group meets at 10 a.m., and the
young people at 11 a.m. Anyone
interested in the classes is in

speaker will continue through
tonight and Sunday at the Com
munity Bible church in Central
Point." Mr. Wittenberg has spent
the last five years in Germany,
Italy, Norway, France and Eng
land under the European Evan
gelization crusade. He has been
speaking and showing colored
pictures of Europe.

thoritatively as to conditions as
they exist today in Europe, the

vice at 11 o'clock. Mrs. Witten
berg will speak at the Ladies Mis
sionary society meeting, Friday,
at 1:30 p. m. at the church.

Cavalcade Will
Open Sunday at
Eastwood Church
The American Baptist conven
tion, with some 7,000 churches
in the United States, is sponsor
ing an Oregon Baptist Mission
ary Cavalcade, with about 30
home and foreign missionaries
touring the state. Of this num
ber, five will be in the southern
Oregon and Medford area from
Sunday, March 27 to Wednes
day, March 30.
Four of these missionaires will
be in the Eastwood Baptist
church of Medford during this
time, according to the minister,
the Rev. Willis J. Loar. The first
of the group, the Rev. Earl
Brock, comes from Assam, and
will speak at the Sunday morn
ing service at 11 a.m. He will be
in the costume of his field for
this service.
On Sunday evening about 50
members and friends of the
church will attend a missionary
rally at the First Baptist church
of Grants Pass to hear Dr. Reu
ben Marc, preacher of the Port-au-Prince
church at Haiti. The
Linfield College a cappella choir
will be present for this service,
with . approximately 800 attend
ing from six churches in the
area.
On Monday evening the Rev.
Thorlief Wathne, Ongole, South
India, will be guest of honor at
an open house at the Eastwood
Baptist church, sponsored by the
Rev. and Mrs. Willis Loar, com
mencing at 7:30 p.m. Mr. Wathne
will show colored slides of his
mission field at 8 p.m.. Refresh
ments will be served.

Crusade for Christ
Series Opens Sunday
"China Against America" will
be the opening topic in the new
Crusade for Christ series begin
ning in Medford Sunday night at
7 p. m. at the Esquire theater,
416 East Main st. Gordon Dal
rymple, Bible lecturer and com
mentator, will be the speaker.
Motion picture for the opening
presentation will be the recently
released Moody Bible Institute
film "The Stones Cry Out." In
color, it depicts archaeological
discoveries in Bible lands.
In "speaking on tension and
trouble surrounding the China
situation, Dalrymple will key
note the destiny of the nations
as outlined in Bible prophecy.
Lectures will be given and
films shown four nights a week,
Sunday, Wednesday, Friday and
Saturday. Films begin at 7 p. m.
with lectures scheduled for 8
p. m. In charge of music the
first few weeks will be Clifton
Walter of Eugene. Later, music
will be under the direction of
E. F. Coy of Medford.

Baptists To Attend
Bi-State SS Meeting
A number of persons from
this area of the Baptist denom
ination plan to attend a Sunday
school meeting of the Baptist
General convention of Oregon
and Washington March 28
through 30 at Richland, Wash.
The pastor of the Temple Bap
tist church, Floyd Yeats, and
Mrs. W. A. Freeland, Central
Point, Sunday school superin
tendent of the Siskiyou Baptist
association, will be speakers at
the convention.
Last year the meeting was at
Eugene with over 400 persons
in attendance. The group has
been invited to convene in 1956
in Medford.

begin a series of pre-Easter meet
ings March 27, which will con
tinue through Easter Sunday,

Christian ministries in San Jose
Bible college will be the speaker
for the two weeks, with three
Sunday meetings.
John and Bill Heberling and
Larry Keene all members of the
local congregation and all stu
dents in San Jose Bible college,
will be in charge of the song
leading and music at each serv
ice. In addition to Sunday morn
ing services, meetings will be
held nightly except Saturday at
7:30 p.m. . f,
. A feature attraction to youth,
will be a youth service preceding
the main service each night at
6:45 p.m. These will be planned
for Junior high and high school
young people.
Anyone interested is invited

70ih Anniversary
Observances Told
The First Presbyterian church
will observe the 70th anniver
sary of its founding with the ob
servances Sunday of the Holy
Communion at both worship
services, and a reception of new
members at the second service.
Dr. D. Kirkiand West will speak
on "In Remembrance."
Cantata
At the evening service at 8
p.m. the Peace Memorial Pres
byterian church choid of Klam
ath Falls will present a sacred
cantata "Olivet to Calvary."
The public is invited.
Westminster fellowship will
have its Fireside hour at the
church with members of the
Klamath Falls choir.
CHRISTIAN SCIENCE
"Reality," will be the title of
the Sunday lesson - sermon at
the Christian Science church.

vice on Easter Sunday, April 10,

Ernest F. Post. The church will
be non-demominational.
Dedication of the structure
will be at a later date, he re
ported. Property, materials and labor
have been contributed for erec
tion of the church, Mr. Post said.
Value of donations when the
church is finished, he added,
will total $10,000.
The minister and Mrs. Post
came here from Compton, Calif.
He has been in the ministry 15
years and is a graduate of Pasa
dena Nazarene college. Before
his ministerial career, he was a
salesman for many years for J.
C,. Penney company. Mrs. Post
has bSen teaching three classes
per week by flannelgraph since
coming here, instructing some
46 youngsters in the area of the
church in a house trailer.
A 100 by 269-foot lot one mile
this side of the Camp White
area was donated as a church site
by C. F. Pettit and associates.
Mr. Post said that two more lots,
an area 200 by 269, have been
reserved for play-ground use.
