This is Year for
White Collar Girl
New York (U.R) This is the
year of white collar girls.
White collars, many of them
moderate in size but most of
them large, show on dresses,
suits and coats.
To keep them white and crisp
means a little work, but it's
worth it. White collars and cuffs
should be washed after each
wearing. Since makeup and hair
oil often soil -the neckline, brush
soapsuds along the edges during
the washing. Or use an ordinary
comb as a minature washboard
to "scrub" fine fabric edges.
Before washing a double col
lar which needs ironing, run
long basting threads Vs inch in
from the outer seam. After the
collar has been washed, rinsed
and pressed lightly, remove the
basting and give it a final firm
ironing.
Press pebble - weave piques
on a thick towel to preserve the
pebbly texture. Press lace or
eyelet embroidery collars with
a towel underneath and a cloth
on top the latter to protect
open work from being snagged
by the iron toe.
Surprise tip; a very little
granulated sugar in the last
rinse will "starch" a small,
sheer white bow or collar. Use
cold-water starch to crisp heav
ier cottons.
