Corral Plans
Jubilee on
Anniversary
The fourth birthday anniver
sary jubilee will be held at
Camp corral on Sunday, March
27, beginning at 1:30 p.m. Dur
ing this four years, Camp corral
has been under the sponsorship
of Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Robert
son with Mrs. Robertson in
structing classes in round and
square dancing. Many of the
square dancers in the valley
have taken her courses and
dance clubs have been formed
at the Corral for the continued
pleasure of the dancers.
All square dancers are invited
for an afternoon of danging and
16 out-of-town callers will be
present. The Oregon callers will
be Bud Baker, Eugene; Dick
Ford, Warrenton; Chris Klein,
Hal Haskins, Norval Cockeram,
Hans Stebien Mueller and Cur
ley Reynolds of Roseburg; Mr.
and Mrs. Al Downs of Suther

The anniversary jubilee prom
ises to be one of the largest
square dances of the year.
Hogans Return
From Vacation
Stay in South
Mr. and Mrs. M. N. Hogan,
Siskiyou court, arrived home
Friday afternoon after being
away since January 21. They
spent much time in Florida and
visited en route at Las Vegas,
Nev., with their son, Michael
Hogan.
The couple drove about 10.000
miles in all and their visit in
Georgia was timed so they saw
the famed Georgia peach orch
ards in blossom. At Houston,
Tex., they attended a livestock
show and they also visited in
Phoenix. Ariz., New Orleans,
La., Oklahoma City, where they
visited for a week, and Wichita
Falls, Tex. 4
Their Florida vacation includ
ed visits to St. Petersburg, Mi
ami, Key West, Ft. Lauderdale,
St. Augustine, Cypress Gardens,
Bok's Singing Tower, Silver
Springs and Daytona Beach.
They also made stops at Chat
tanooga, and Memphis, Tenn.,
and Fort Smith, Ark.
Sojourners Club
Plans Guest Day
Medford Sojourners club will
sponsor a "guest day" party at
the Medford hotel March 24 at
12:30 p.m. Dessert luncheon will
be served and cards will be the
diversion of the afternoon. Both
active and inactive members are
invited to take one or more
guests.

Miss Carol Le Smith and Rob
ert C. Cooper were married
March 5 in Reno, Nev. The
bride is a daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. John E. Smith, 3455 Jack
sonville highway, and the bride
groom is a son of Mr. and Mrs.
Elbert L. Cooper, Central Point.
The newlyweds are living in
San Diego since Mr. Cooper, a
fireman in the Navy, is stationed
at Coronado, Calif.

Saimons in a ceremony held
March 4 at First Methodist
church here. The Rev. Raymond
E. Balcomb of First Methodist
church read the double- ring
rites at 7 o'clock in the eve
ning. Twenty guests were present.
The bride is a daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. William Mona
ghan Jr., Grand Forks, N.D.,
and the bridegroom is a sen
of Mr. and Mrs. Steve Saimons,
1035 Winchester avenue, Med
ford. Mrs. James Beiter was the
bride's attendant, and Gary Lee
Hawk was best man for the
bridegroom.
For the ceremony the bride
wore a beige suit with pink ac
cessories and her corsage was a
I pair of pink orchids.
A reception was given at the
home of the bridegroom's par
ents. The bride attended Crater
High school, Central Point, and
is a clerk at the Big Y market,
Medford. The bridegroom, per
sonnel management specialist for
the United States Army, also
attended Crater High school. He
will leave later this month for
duty in Sendai, Japan, and Mrs.
Saimons will make her home
with her aunt, Mrs. R. G. Dav
idson, 556 Midway road.

ville. The event was held at the
Jacksonville. Masonic hall and
among the visitors were Mrs.
Ed Pease, grand representative
of Alabama in Oregon; Mrs. Ben
Alberts, worthy matron of Jose
phine chapter at Grants Pass;
Mrs. Luther Day and Merrit
Swing, worthy matron and
worthy patron of the Nevita
chapter, Central Point; Mrs.
Carl Harris and Thomas W.
Laird, worthy matron and
worthy patron of Alpha chapter,
Ashland, and Morris Boughner,
worthy patron of Reames chap
ter. During the presentation of de
grees to Fred M. Gardner, three
members of his immediate fam
ily participated. They included
his father, Fred H. Gardner,
worthy patron of Adarel chap
ter, and his wife, who fills the
Star point station of Esther. As
a courtesy the candidates' moth
er, a past matron of Adarel
chapter, presided as worthy ma
tron during the initiatory work.
The meeting was preceded by
a potluck dinner. Mr. and Mrs.
Menno Bachman, Mr. and Mrs.
George Drorbaugh, Mrs. Frank
Root, Mrs. A. L. Schrack and
Mrs. Michael Beck made up the
dinner committee.
. Decorations for the dinner
were in the St. Patrick's day
theme, with shamrocks on the
table. Members of the serving
committee wore shamrock
aprons.

Medford Teacher
Named to Office

Mrs. Maxine (Paul R.) Smith
was elected vice-president of the
Classroom Teachers' association,
a department of Oregon Educa
tion association, during the an
nual meeting in Portland yester
day. Mrs. Smith will succeed to
the presidency of the association,
largest of the OEA units next
year.
Mrs. Smith, who has been on
the teaching staff of Medford
junior and senior high schools
for the past eight years, has
served as president of the Jack
son county unit of Oregon Edu
cation association for two years
and will retire this spring from
that office.
The teacher is also a member
of the advisory committee for
the Oregon State Board of Edu
cation. Her group affiliations in
clude Delta Kappa Gamma, pro
fessional sorority for women in
teaching; American Association
of University Women, Medford
League of Women Voters and
Kappa Delta, national social
sorority. She is a graduate of
the University of Oregon.
Prior to coming to Medford,
Mrs. Smith taught in high schools
in northern and eastern Oregon.
The Smiths live on Spring street.
Bruce Matheny
Visits Relatives
Bruce C. Matheny, former
Jacksonville resident, visited
over night last week with his
grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Carl
Ludwig, 511 Austin street. He
is a son of Mr. and Mrs. O.'W.
Matheny of San Diego, Calif., and
Jacksonville. He was on a stop
over here en route to Annapolis,
Md., where he is an instrument
flight instructor for link train
ers at the 'Navy air facility at
Severn River command.
With him on the visit to the
Ludwigs was E. E. Bartlett Jr., a
Navy lieutenant commander,
whose home station is at Ann
apolis, Md. They arrived Thurs
day and left Friday morning.
The two had been to Whidby
island, Wash., from where they
are flying a JRF-6 Grumman
plane to the east.
While here they also visited
other relatives of Mr. Matheny,
including the Marshall Sweets
and Ernest Ludwigs.

The annual championship in
dividual tournment of Medford
Duplicate Bridge club will be
held April 23 and 24, the club
announces. "
Mrs. R. J. Conroy and Mrs.
Marrs Gibbons topped winners
for the last session, scoring 77
points, Mrs. T. J. Fuson and Wil
liam F. Isaacs were second with
76, and third, went to Mrs. Wil
liam Kennedy and Mrs. George
Dean for 75V& points.

Rites Are Held
In Idaho Church
News was received here last
week of the wedding March 5
of Mrs. Doris Ellenburg Baize,
formerly of Medford, to Otto
A. Mosley. Both are of Seattle,
Wash., and their wedding took
place at the First Presbyterian
church at St. Maries, Ida., the
former home of the bridegroom.
The bride, the daughter of
Mrs. Nettie Ellenburg, 119
North Central avenue, and the
late Maj. William Ellenburg.
has been employed at the Seat
tle regional office of the veter
ans administration as a dental
nurse.
The bridegroom, son of Mr.
and Mrs. Martin Jackson of St.
Maries is office manager for the
Elliott Bay Lumber company at
Seattle. '
The couple flew in the bride
groom's plane from Seattle to
Spokane, Wash., where they
were met by his brother" and
sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Lew
is Mosley. They then made the
trip by car to St. Maries, at
the southern end of .Lake Coeur
d'Alene.
The wedding was performed
by the Rev. William Esson at 9
o'clock in the evening. For her
marriage the bride wore a pale
pink faille jacket dress with
matching shell type cap. Her
accessories were pink and white
and she carried an orchid.
The couple spent their hon
eymoon at the Empress hotel
at Victoria, B.C.
The newlyweds are living for
the present at 1617 Fifth Av
enue North in Seattle, and
plan to move next week to their
new home at 4803 Niesz court
also in Seattle.
Medford Woman
Nominated for
Oregon Congress
Mrs. Leigh Gustison, Medford
Parent-Teacher association wor
ker, has been nominated as sec
retary for the Oregon Congress
of Parents and Teachers, accord
ing to a release made March 17
by the congress nominating
committee. Elections will be
held later in the spring at a state
meeting of the congress.
Mrs. Gustison has served as
procedure and bylaws chairman
for the congress and is a past
president and treasurer of the
Medford Council of Parent-Teacher
association.
She also has served as a pres
ident of the Medford Junior
High PTA and has held other
offices and chairmanships in lo
cal PTA groups. Other interests
which Mrs. Gustison has served
are the juvenila advisory com
mittee, mental health commit
tee and many community activ
ities and projects.
Mrs. J. W. Staggs of Milton
Freewater has been nominated
congress president; Mrs. Russell
Case, Portland, first vice-presi
dent; Mrs. S. W. Meserve, Port
land, junior vice-president, Re
gion II; Mrs. W. H. Wergen, En
terprise, Junior vice-president of
Region VII, and Mrs. Jesse Rig
ney, Nyssa, junior vice-president
Region VIII.

To Hold Election
Phoenix The annual meeting,
with election of officers, will be
held by Phoenix Community
Club and Youth Center, Monday,
March 21. It is planned for 8 p.m.
in the clubhouse.

At Event Monday
. Miss Helen S. Moor, dean of
women at Oregon State college,
who will be honored by south
ern Oregon mothers at a lunch
eon in Medford Monday, has
been active in organizational as
well as college work during her
career. The luncheon, planned
by mothers of students at Ore
gon State college, is scheduled
for 12 o'clock noon at the Hotel
Medford.
She has filled various commit
tee assignments for national con
ventions for the National Asso
ciation of Deans of Women,
American Council of Personnel
association, National Vocational
Guidance association and Amer
ican Association of University
Women. She is past president
and treasurer of Illinois State
Association of Deans of Women.
Miss Moor is also a member
of the League of Women Voters
and Zonta club. She is affiliated
with Pi Lambda Theta, the Na
tional Education association and
the Oregon Association of Deans
of Women. : . .
She is in southern Oregon as
houseguest of Dr. and Mrs. Elmo
Stevenson of Southern Oregon
college and will be accompanied
to Medford Monday by Mrs. Ste
venson, who has also been invit
ed to be a special guest at the
luncheon.

for a meeting of Jackson County
Republican Women tomorrow.
The meeting will be held at the
YMCA, with luncheon to be
served at 12 noon.
Mrs. Bash is chairman of the
Republican party in Jackson
county.
Also on the program will be
Miss Kathrytn McAllister and
Steve Nye, both students at Stan
ford university home on spring
vacation. Both young people are
active in young Republican
groups at Stanford, and will,
speak briefly of the part which
the groups play in campus life
in California.

Amaranth Names
Year's Officers;
Five Initiated
Mrs. George Rehart has been
elected royal matron and Carl H.
W. Oestreich was named royal
patron of Roxy Ann court, Or
der of the Amaranth for the en
suing year. The annual election
of officers of the court was held
at the Masonic temple in Med
ford Thursday.
Other officers elected to serve
the court are Mrs. Ira D. Can
field, associate matron; Clarence
Harwood, associate patron; Mrs.
Vernon A. Turpin, conductress;
Mrs. Marshal Day, associate
conductress; Mrs. Carl H. W.
