CASCADE COLLEGE CHOIR The a cap

Medford Friends church Sunday at 7:30 p.m.
The public is invited to hear the 36-voice
choir, pictured above, which is directed by

The Cascade college a cappella
choir, Portland, will be pre
sented in sacred concert at the
Friends church, Sunday, at 7:30
p.m.
The 36-voice choir is directed
by K. Roy Hallman, head of the
music department at Cascade
college. The choir toured
through , Washington, Idaho,
Montana and the Dakotas last
June, and in its present trip will
go as far south as Fresno, Calif.
Featured with the choir will
be harpist, Nyle Hallman, wife
of the director. The varied choir
program includes music from
Sweden, the Georgian Set islands
and South America as well as a
selection of Negro spirituals.
Professor Hallman is a grad
uate of Westminster choir col
lege, and was soloist with the
Westminster touring choir for
three seasons. While in graduate
studies at the University of Minn
esota he was director of music
at the First Mission Covenant
Church In Minneapolis pastored
by Dr. Paul S. Rees. Mr. and
Mrs. Hallman conducted an ex
tensive concert tour last sum
mer in California churches.
Former Pastor Here
Assists in Campaign
Dr. Meredith A. Groves, form
erly pastor of the First Metho
dist church in Medford, now of
Eugene, is one of 35 representa
tives of the Methodist Church in
the United States who will as
sist in a campaign March 24 to
31 in . Anchorage, Alaska, to
raise $500,000 to establish a four
year liberal arts college there.
The announcement was made
through the Methodist board of
missions.
Dr. Grover, who is superin
tendent of the Eugene district
of the Oregon conference, will
represent the Portland area,
which includes Oregon and
southern Idaho. He will fly to
Anchorage March 23 with the
Methodist group.

Prof. James M. Hess, Amer
ican Congregational Christian
educator, will speak Sunday at
7:30 p.m., at the Congregational
church in Medford. That morn
ing at 11- a.m., he will speak at
the Ashland Congregational
church.
The speaker, for 27 years an
educator in the Christian field in
India, more recently taught at
Elon college, N. C. During his
India career, from wnich he re
tired in 1952, he was on the
faculty of the American college
in Madurai, a Christian institu
tion of higher education founded
and conducted by the American
board of commissioners for for
eign missions. He was head of
the department of English litera
ture and served for 'a time as
bursar. He also was chaplain of
the college!
Professor Hess served in
numerous positions in connec
tion with his work there and
also was active in community
affairs. He has worked for the
Community chest at Kodaikanal
which benefitted the American
school for missionary children;
the Van Allen hospital and the
Missionary union. He served as
president of the Rotary club at
Madurai. He also taught at
Doshisha university in Japan.
Evangelists To Open
Campaign on Tuesday
An evangelistic campaign with
Dr. and Mrs. Merle Edwards, of
Denver, Colo., will begin Tues
day, March 22, at 7:45 p.m. at
the Medford Assembly of God,
1108 West Main st., according to
Rev. F. Wildon Colbaugh, pastor.
Dr. and Mrs. Edwards recently
have held campaign in Portland,
Coquille and in San Jose, Calif.
They held a pastorate in Den
ver until a short time ago.
Dr. Edwards will speak es
pecially upon prophetic subjects
in his campaign here.
Music will include the church
choir, the men's quartet, ladies'
quartet, and the orchestra.
ASHLAND REVIVAL
The "Evangelaires," youth re
vivalists, will begin a revival at
the Assembly of God Church,
485 Siskiyou blvd., Ashland,
Tuesday, March 22. The group
is noted for its music and also
for evangelistic preachers who
will speek at each service. Meet
ings will be held nightly except
Saturday, at 7:30 p.m.

Westminster choir college and was a soloist
with the Westminster touring choir for three

Reception Session
A group of 60 persons will be
examined for reception into the
Presbyterian church, by the pas
tor, Dr. D. Kirkland West, at a
session Sunday, at 4 p.m., at the
church. The group is made up of
members of the Adult Church

Communicant class. The service
is open to the public and parents
and friends of tnose who are to
be received into the church are

Dr. West will speak at the
morning service on the theme,
"Can You See Christ Today?"
as the Presbyterian church will
join all others in promoting the
Great Hour of Sharing. Music
will include an anthem by the
Chancel choir, mixed quartet

the final class in theology for

Temple Church Slates
Baptisms for Sunday
A series of evangelistic serv
ices in progress at the Temple
Baptist church for the past two
weeks will be closed Sunday eve
ning, when baptismal services
will be held in the auditorium.
Fifteen persons are to be bap
tized into the fellowship of the
church at the meeting and four
others have joined by letters
from other Baptist churches.
During the evangelistic services
the church has reached its high
est attendance in the Sunday
school, church officers an
nounced. Next Sunday it is
hoped that an even bigger at
tendance of 251 will be attained.
Assembly Adult Study
Group Opens Sunday
An adult study on "Christian
Truths" will begin at the Med
ford Assembly of God, 1108 West
Main st., Sunday at 6 p.m., con

The study period will be open
to anyone who has questions

Classes Will Use
New School Unit
First Time Sunday
A new Sunday school unit at
the Congregational church of
Medford, 300 Oakwood dr., has
been readied for use and three
classes will meet in it Sunday
for the first time. The building
is still unfinished arid a formal
dedication service will be held
when it is completed.: However,
Sunday all of the Sunday school
pupils will go there for a brief
prayer of thanksgiving at the
opening of the school session at
9:45 a.m.
Three Youngest
The three classes which will
use the unit Sunday are the
three youngest ones, which hap
pen to be among the largest, the
nursery-kindergarten group, the
lower primary and the upper
primary. They are taught respec
tively by Mrs. Jack Balding and
Mrs. Ivan Burton, Mrs. F. C.
Ayres and Gatewood Smith.
The building has been con
structed out of an open pavillion
which was formerly the recrea
tion hall of the Valley View
school. It has one large room
and two smaller ones. One of
these smaller rooms will have a
will double as a kitchen. When
range and sink at one end and
completed it is expected that
this building will be used for
jnany other purposes in addition
to Christian' education.
