Rites Wed
Miss Barnes,
Californian
Phoenix Miss Lillian Jennie
Earnes, daughter of Mrs. Agnes
Barnes, 1545 Camp Baker road,
became the bride of Eugene A.
Sinks at an 8 o'clock evening
ceremony March 5. The wedding
took place at the home of the
bride's sister, Mrs. C. J. Morris
at Phoenix.
The bridegroom is a son of
Claude A. Sinks, Chowchilla,
Calif.
The Rev. Everett McGee of the
First Christian church perform
ed the rites which were attend
ed by about 5 guests.
Miss Margaret Sinks, a sister
of the bridegroom, was here
from Seaside to be the maid of
honor. Weston Barnes, a broth
er of the bride, was best man.
George Barnes, Ashland,
another brother of the bride,
gave her in marriage. She wore
a light blue suit and carried a
bouquet of red roses on a white
Bible.
Miss Sinks wore a pink nylon
dress and her flowers were lav
ender carnations.
A reception was given by Mrs.
Morris and the bride's mother.
The bride was graduated in
1954 from Phoenix schools and
the bridegroom, now serving
with the liavy, attended schools
in Medford.
The couple now are visiting
with relatives at Seaside while
on their wedding trip. They plan
to return here Tuesday. The
bride will remain to live at the
home of her mother for the
present while the bridegroom
will return March 17 to his sta
tion at Norfolk, Va. He has been
on a 30-day leave.
Mothers! Plan
State Meeting
The Oregon department con
vention of Blue Star Mothers of
America will be held in Grants
Past Thursday, April 28, it has
been announced. Mrs. Audree
Jonechat, second vice-president
of the national organization,
will be our guest representing
the national president, Mrs.
Emma Hoffman.
The regular meeting of the
Medford chapter will be held
Thursday, March 17, at 2 p.m.
in Carpenters' Local Union hall,
123V2 West Main street. This
will be a temporary meeting
place until a vote can be taken.
Delegates to the convention
will be elected at this meeting.
Minger-Padgett Ceremony
Held in Central Point Home
Central Point Miss Kola' Ruth Padgett became the bride of
Melvin Earl Minger in a ceremony held March 5 in the home of
the bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert H. Padgett, 44 South
Fourth street. Central Point. The bridegroom is a son of Mr. and
Mrs. Raymond A. Minger, 153 South First street. Central Point.
The Rev. D. E. Millard per
formed the double-ring cere
mony at one o'clock in the after
noon, and Mr. Padgett gave his
daughter in marriage. For the
I wedding she wore a gown of
white nylon net, ballerina length,
with tiered skirt and lace
jacket. Her fingertip veil was
held by a pearl headpiece and
her bouquet was of white carna
tions centered with a white
orchid.
Mrs. William Davis was the
bride's only attendant. She wore
a frock of blue net with stole
and carried pink carnations
which matched her headdress.
I. B. Millard Jr. was best man
for his brother-in-law.
Miss Lea Eloise Padgett, sis
ter of the bride, lighted the
candles. Her frock of rose-colored
nylon net was worn with
matching stole.
The Rev. Mr. and Mrs. Mil
lard sang for the ceremony, per
formed in a setting of pink and
white carnations and white wed
ding bells. ' ,
A reception followed the serv
ice. The cake was cut by Mrs. K.
V. Griffeth, Prospect, aunt of
the bride, and Mrs. Gale John
son, Medford, sister of the bride
groom. Mrs. Eldon Bean and
Mrs. Richard Bean, Prospect,
aunts of the bride, served punch
and Mrs. Ray Britton, Central
Point, too charge of the guest
book.
For the wedding and recep
tion the bride's mother wore a
gray suit with gardenia corsage
and the bridegroom's mother
wore a navy blue dress with
gardenia bouquet.
Sixty guests attended the wed
ding and reception.
Mr. Minger and his laide trav
eled to southern California for
their honeymoon and after
March 21 will be at home in
Central Point. The bride was
graduated from Medford High
school in 1948 and has been an
operator with The Pacific Tele
phone and Telegraph company.
Mr. Minger, a mechanic with
Courtesy Chevrolet company,
Medford, was graduated from
school in La Grange, Mo.
Among the wedding guests
was Mrs. Nell Bean, Prospect,
the bride's grandmother.
Luncheon Planned
For Social Club
Reames Social club will meet
for a pay luncheon and an after
n o o n of cards Wednesday,
March 16. at 12 noon in the
Medford Masonic temple. Those
whose birthdays are in Janu
ary, February and March will be
honored and all members of the
Order of the Eastern Star are
invited.
Mrs. Verner Lugnet heads the
committee in charge.

Society Makes
First Plans for
Annual Luncheon
Plans now are being made
for the annual Easter Monday
luncheon which members of St.
Anne's Altar society of Sacred
Heart church give each spring.
This year the luncheon will
be served at St. Mary's gym
nasium to accommodate a larg
er crowd and will be served
buffet style, as the annual event
has been done for the past 30
years.
Mrs. John Laden has been
named general chairman and she
in turn has appointed her com
mittees. Mrs. Thomas Eslinger
will have charge of reservations;
Mrs. James Miller, decorations;
Mrs. David Lowry and Mrs.
Clark Thomas, buffet table; Mrs.
Paul Haviland, food; Mrs. Wil
liam Scruggs, kitchen; Mrs.
Frank Roelandt, hostesses, and
Mrs. John Boyle and Mrs.
Maurice Spatz, prizes.
Card table decorations will be
directed by Mrs. R. A. Naumes;
Mrs. Jerry Clarke, coffee; Mrs.
James Finegan, cards, and Mr.
and Mrs. Fritz Betchard, trans
portation. The Sunday committee chair
men are Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence
Duff, and Mrs. James Dunlevy
is in charge of publicity.
Rogue Rangers
Is Name for
Riding Group
"Rogue Rangers," was selected
as the name for the newly
formed riding club in the area
and the drill team will be known
as the Rangerette drill team, ac
cording to an announcement
made last week by the members.
The group decided on the names
at a meeting March 10 at the
Walt Young ranch house on Bar
nett road.
The next meeting to the club
will be March 17, at 7:30 p.m., at
the Young home.
During the meeting dues and
liability insurance were dis
cussed and a field day to be held
at the home of Mr. and Mrs.
Floyd Gibson on Barnett road
was planned for Sunday, March
20. Members, invited guests and
parents will attend.
Prospective members attend
ing will be Jim Young, Aileen
Dorn, Ann Baker, Pat Hilton,
Carol Ballard, Carol Moldovan,
Winnie Gorr, Lin May, Jack
Hoffer and Danny Bergran.
A committee to gather infor
mation regarding uniforms was
appointed. The members are Gail
Prentice, Ursula Bates and Bar
bara Reich. Lucille Lowry and
Jimmie Ackerman were admit
ted as new club members.

League Show
On Calendar
This Week
Most important social event of
the week is the annual spring
style show of Medford Junior
Service league.' With "Printemps
au Paris" as the theme, the show
will be produced fnree times as
a benefit for the league's kinder
garten for hard-of-hearing chil
dren. Dates and hours of the show
are Thursday and Friday, March
17 and 18, with luncheons both
days at 12:30 p.m. and an evening
show Friday at 7 o'clock. All will
be at Rogue Valley Country
club.
Mrs. B. Brandt Bartels, Mrs. C.
H. Buffington and Mrs. Floyd
H. Baker are general chairmen
for the show, which promises to
be the most entertaining such
event ever given by the league.
Mrs. Emil Mohr is food chair
man and Mrs. Buffington, Mrs.
Frank Hopewell and Mrs. Lawr
ence Ellis are models chairmen,
with the latter to take charge of
the children in the show.
Decorations, Parisian in spirit,
are being planned and executed
by Mrs. John Reid, Mrs. Donald
B. Whalin, Mrs. Donald Wood
and Mrs. James Cummins. Mrs.
Wright A. Scoville is invitations
chairman, and Mrs. George Lew
is and Mrs. Emil Mohr are pro
gram chairmen.
Mrs. Fred Spiegelberg and
Mrs. Gordon Hudson are listed
as chairmen of miscellaneous de
tails and Mrs. Scoville will take
charge of lighting.
The sale of flowers and per
fume is an innovation for the
show, and selling flowers will be
Mrs. David Holmes and Mrs. H.
S. Deuel Jr. Mrs. Robert Rector,
Mrs. C. H. Herman Jr., Mrs. O.
J. Halboth and Mrs. C. B. Col
lins will sell perfume.

Wedding of Son;
Family Reunion
Mr. and Mrs. Martin R. Barnett
and children, Bruce and Barbara,
608 Stewart avenue, left Satur
day for Chico, Calif., where they
will attend the wedding today
of their son, Richard Martin
Barnett, to Miss Wynes Morton.
The bride is a daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. F. B. Phillips of Mc
Cloud, Calif., and the wedding
is set for 2 o'clock this after
noon at Chico First Presbyterian
church.
Saturday the group attended
a reunion at Chico of Mrs. Bar
nett's family when four genera
tions were together. The four
generations included her parents,
Mr. and Mrs. Ray Taber of Los
Angeles, Mrs. Barnett, the Bar
netts' eldest son, Wally Barnett,
and his infant daughter, Sheri.
The Tabers will return here
this evening with Barnetts to
visit for several weeks. This will
be their ninth annual visit to
Medford.
The newly wedded couple
also plan to visit here next week
after a week's honeymoon trip.
The bridegroom recently re
turned from Korea and Formosa
on the USS Yorktown. He is a
storekeeper with the Navy and
was in the Far East for eight
months. He took part in the
Tachen evecuation. He has been
with the Navy for about 3$
years.

orary service fraternity, at the
IK Queen's ball last Saturday
night. Terrance Hayes, son of Mr.

All three are graduates of
Medford high school and are
majoring in optometry.

lahan, to Lt. James F. Moore
of the United States Air Force.
He is a son of Mr. and Mrs;
J. F. Moorse. formerly of Med
ford and now of Portland.
Miss Callahan' is a junior at
Portland university and St. Vin
cent's school of nursing in Port
land. She is a member of Beta
Beta Beta, national biology hon
or society, and Alpha Tau Del
ta, honor society for women in
nursing. She was graduated
from Medford High school in
1952.
Lieutenant Moore, also a grad
uate of Medford High school,
was graduated from Oregon
State college in 1953 and is a
member of Phi Sigma Kappa
fraternity. He is assigned to
duty in Japan.
No wedding date has been
set.
Couple Here
Mr. and Mrs. L. J. Hanchett
are weekend guests of Mrs. Han
chett s sister. Mrs. Bernice Kunz
man, 607 West Eighth street.
They will leave tomorrow for
their home in Wenatchee, Wash.
The Hanchetts are en route
home after having visited rela
tives in Santa Clara county in
California.
Dinner Honors Medford Woman
A dinner February 27 honored
Mrs. Bettie Porter on her 82nd
birthday. Mrs. Porter has lived
in Medford since 1947, her home
being on Sunset drive next door
to her son-in-law and daughter,
Mr. and Mrs. H. O. Hess.
The dinner was at the Hess
home and attending were Mrs.
E. B. Powelson, Castle Rock,
Wash., another daughter; Mrs.
Irene Albro and Mrs. Frances
Pfouts, both from Eugene, sis
ters of Mrs. Porter; and a grand
son and his wife, Mr. and Mrs.
Steve Hess, a granddaughter and
her family, Mr. and Mrs. John
Bean. Johnnie and Jayne Bean,
are Mrs. Porter's only greatgrandchildren.
Gifts were presented to the
honored guest during the day.
She is a native Oregonian and
was born and lived at Eugene.
Her parents were Andrew and
Mary Ware Carson. Her father
crossed the plains in 1850 and
he mother in 1851. Mrs. Porter
recalls Eugene as a small collec
tion of four buildings.
Unable to be here for the oc
casion were a sister and brother
also of Eugene, Mrs. Lila Adams
and Henry Carson.
