The broad trend in men's
spring clothes is toward the dark
shades, relieved by bright col
ors in shirts, ties and accessories,
and often as decorative touches
in the suit fabrics.
In the new suits, there is great
use of charcoal gray, alone, and
as a mixture. The charcoal
shade is used to "mute" other
colors and many medium weight
j-ear-round-weight suits appear
in "char tones" charcoal
brown, charcoal blue and char
coal green.
These color combinations are
achieved by blending different
colored wools before they are
spun into yarn and woven into
fabrics. The colors are evenly
mixed in the nap of the fabric,
of a charcoal color with a dif
ference. The second color wheth
er green, brown or blue, be
comes apparent when closely
viewed.
Bright colors 'appear in the
spring and summer tropical
worsted wool suit fabrics as
decorative touches on a dark
background. Pink and helio
trope are the most widely used
decorative colors, and they are
used sparingly. Both these col
ors have achieved popularity in
shirts and neckwear. Their use
in the wool suit fabrics is de
signed to achieve close harmony
between accessories and suits.
Year 'Round Weights
Also important on the spring
style scene is the introduction
of the "year 'round suit," in
medium weight worsted wool
and wool tweed fabrics. This has
resulted logically from the level
ing off to temperature ranges.
Men who prefer lighter suits
will find that these new Weights
are just what they need for all
but the coldest part of the late
winter-early spring months.
On the other hand, their
lighter weight extends the sea
son in which they can be worn
through June if last year's tem
peratures are repeated, and on
mild days throughout, the sum
mer. For the neally warm weather,
"wash 'n wear" suits of fabrics
crafted from man-made fibres,
such as Orion and Dacron will
bs popular this year. These suits
will be exceptionally light in
weight and will retain their
neat, crisp look, even on the hot
test, muggiest days. Constructed
for complete washability, they
will need little or no pressing
after laundering.
Two Silhouettes
There are two major silhou
7ettes in the new spring suits,
both single-breasted. One is the
familiar two-button coat style
with patch pockets, center vent
and a rather full coat body.
The second and newest is a
perfection of the "natural look"
suit that results in making this
trim model wearable even by
the biggest men.
This calls for narrower shoul
ders with no padding, soft, flex
ible coat front, high gorge (nar
rowing of the lapels at the shirt
collar line), and high 6leeve
hole.
Pink is an important new pas
tel in sport coats and slacks.
Basket weave wool sport coats
in solid pink, and lightweight
pink wool Shetland coats with
scattered black and white nubs
have a freshness that is appro
priate for warm weather wear.
In sport jackets, colors for the
upcoming season are the bright
est ever shown, featuring almost
any pastel color that can be
named.

Color Makes News
In Shirts for Men
Color plays tne biggest part
in the men's shirt- story for
spring. Soft pastels are solidly
entrenched. The popularity of
colored dress shirts to brighten
the dark wardrobe grows apace,
and for spring there is an ever
widening spectrum.
The success of pink and helio
will continue into the -warmer
months. Cognac, peach, lime,
mint green, rust, orange and
bright blues are also very much
in the picture. At the other ex
treme, charcoals have been add
ed to dress shirts for ensembling
with the lighter summer coat.
Though solid colors hold the
spotlight, subdued and subtle
pattern effects in fine stripes,
candy stripes and fine checks
figure importantly on the style
scene.
Collars will continue thpir
trend to short points, with me

You do not say whether you
have 'children, but the tone? of
your letter suggests that you do
not. Even if you did, I question
whether a home such as your
husband would provide would
be animprovement over a home
with you alone. If you have no
children, there is no obligation
on your part to put up with such
treatment any longer.
If your husband merely liked
to amuse himself with other
women's flattery and attention,
you might overlook this on the
ground that he was behaving
like a schoolboy and would
grow up some day. But his state
ment that he has no respect for
women and his proof of this in
the way he treats you would
indicate that he is not and never
will be good husband material.
So,' pack up no wand go.

Spring's designs, according to
the Wallpaper Council, interpret
wallpaper artwork as a back
ground for living, rather than
a repetition of motif. Living
room papers use designs of great
elegance and formality: new ver
sions of flock patterns give the

damasks.
Delicate all-over patterns look
like exquisite old Chinese prints.
Provincial patterns and neat
over-all geometric suit casual liv
ing. Florals are done with a mod
ern touch.

new "perspective" patterns
which add depth and dimension
to walls with designs that sug
gest an outdoor landscape or

Color trends in new machine
made wallpapers veer to clean,
