Celebrating
Annual Week
Girl Scouts of the U.S.A. this
week are celebrating the 43rd
birthday of the founding of
their organization by Juliette

These years have seen the Girl
Scouts grow from 12 girls to al
most 2,000,000 Girl Scouts.
These for the year is "Belong
ing. Building, and Believing."
Each day of Girl Scout week
represents a different service
day. Sunday, both this past and
next Sunday, are go to church
days, with many Girl Scouts at
tending church in uniform. They
go to their own church, or to
one the troop, elects to attend.
Monday was homemaking day,
Tuesday citizenship was stressed
and on Wednesday, health and
safety is emphasized. Thursday
is international friendship day,
which now means more to the
many Scouts and Brownies who
attended Camp Low Echo this
past summer and became well
acquainted with Trinidad Sales,
camp exchange counselor from
the Philippine islands.
Arts and craits is the theme
for Friday. Saturday is out-of-doors
day, when if the weather
permits, many troops may be
taking outings. Saturday also
happens to be the last day of the
snnual cookie sale. Junior High
Girl Scouts will be selling cook
ies at booths in various stores.
This year the scouts hope to sell
23,000 boxes of cookies, the pro
ceeds to be used for the operat
ing fund of the established
Camp Low Echo at Lake of the
"Woods. Five cents per box goes
to the individual troop treasu
ries.
One of the important meetings
which preceded Girl Scout week
was a session of the camping
committee of Rogue Valley area
held March 3 in the Washington
school cafeteria.
During the meeting little Su
san Gordon, daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. Ed Gordon and a member
of Brownie Troop No. 117, pre
sented a McCulloch chain saw to
the committee for use at Camp
Low Echo. The presentation was
to William Jones, Caretaker and
