Funston said the stock mar
ket is healthy and the 1929
crash isn't likely to be repeated.
Music Festival Set
Here April 7 to 9;
Many Will Attend
A southern Oregon music fes
tival, under the spo'nsorship of
the Southern Oregon Music Edu
cators, will be held in Medford
April 7, 8 and 9, it was an
nounced yesterday.
Invitations have been sent to
grade, junior high, and senior
high schools throughout an area
that extends to Yoncalla and
Sutherlin in the north, and
Lakeview in the east Groups
may enter for a rating, or for
criticism only.
Plan Combined Groups
In addition to performing in
their own school organizations,
selected musicians will combine
forces for the festival groups
which will present an evening
concert on the final night of the
meet.
The festival band of 200
pieces will be directed by Clar
ence Sawhill, of the University
of California at Los Angeles,
and John O'Connor, of Oregon
State college, will be in charge
of the 180-piece festival orches
tra. Director of the 200-voice festi
val chorus will be Karl Ernst,
San Jose, Calif.
At MHS
All performances will be in
the Medford High school build
ing, with the public concerts
scheduled for the boys gymna
sium. Those in charge of organizing
the various events are Al Lehl,
Medford, vocal chairman; W. D.
Windt, Ashland, orchestra chair
. man, and I. A. Mirick, Medford,
band chairman.
Landscape Clinic
Slated This Week
A landscape clinic will be held
at the Jackson county court
house auditorium during the aft
ernoons of Thursday and Friday,
March 10 and 11, Don Berry,
county agent for horticulture,
has announced.
Mrs. Fred Lorish, Medford,
George Fredeen, Grants Pass,
Chet Corey. Ashland, and anoth
er landscape architect from Ore
gon State college will be on
hand those days to discuss land
scape problems. All reportedly
are familiar with local condi
lions.
All persons with questions or
nroblems on the subject are in
vited to drop into the auditori
um. The landscape architects
will assist to the extent of help
ing lay out a plan for a yard.
Those wishing help with plans
for their yards are advised to
make a drawing and take sev
eral snapshots to bring in. Per
sons unable to make scale draw
ings should have a complete list
of dimensions of their yards.
There is no cost except for
a little effort on the part of
those interested, Berry stated.
