1920's and those of today.
Miss Fallenstein has been at
the job feeding college males
for 34 years before she retired
recently as supervisor of food
service and dormitories at
Washington University.
.There have . been a lot of
changes in the physical phases
of campus life, Miss Fallentein
aid, but the male students are
about the same.

by the doctor. The word .has
been used in
medical litera
ture in the past
few years but

not yet recog
n i z e d it in
its entirety,
though iatro
and -genie are
separately de
fined. I a t r oeenic
heart disease has been freely dis
discussed in recent medical jour
nals and books. In Canadian
Medical Association Journal
(45:1, '41) Dr. J. A. Oille said
that almost 60 per cent of pa
tients who consult a heart spe
cialist (cardiologist is the $150
word for it) suffer from an ex
aggerated or wholly unnecessary
anxiety arising from suggestion
and not based on reason.
Now, wait, neurotics. I'm just
quoting what Dr. Oille said
about it. If you want to go
around with your heart in your
mouth, don't worry about what
I say probably none of your
relatives, friends, employers or
associates will take my teachings
as seriously as they do the con
ventional weak heart" obsession.
Without breaking faith with
Hippocrates I quote also what

As Dr. Weinberg carefully
points out, in iatrogenic heart
disease the heart Is normal, al
though innocent murmurs, mi
nor electro-cardiographic .vari
ations, some alterations in blood
pressure and disturbances of
rhythm occur.
On television the other eve
ning appeared a man who had
"died and then came back to
life!" The man said that in the
course of an operation his heart
had stopped, vso the surgeon had
quickly made an opening, insert
ed his hand and massaged the
heart until it resumed beating.
What had caused his death, the
man explained, was "cardiac ar
rest." .
Arrest is a 5J..80 word for
stop. After all, it wouldn't sound
impressive to say the man's
heart had stopped beating.
Cardiac means of or pertain
ing to the heart. Some gullible
customers think the doctor
knows what ails them if he
opines their heart trouble is a
cardiac condition.
A doctor who mumbles about
a 'slight murmur" usually
doesn't know what, if anything,
ails the patient. If the doctor
mentions the word "murmur"
