Carr, daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Dale B. Carr, 1511 West Main
street.
- The bridegroom, a son of Mr.
and Mrs. Charles H. Johns, of
Sonoma, formerly was here with
the First National bank. He
moved to Sonoma last summer.
The bride, a clerk-typist at the
Stark Finance company offices
until her marriage, is a Medf ord
fcigh school graduate. The bride
groom' received his education in
Portland.
The ceremony was read by the
Rev. R. W. Hum at the Church
of Nazarene at 3 o'clock in the
afternoon.
Miss Dolly Carr was maid of
honor for her sister and best
man was James . Mitchell, a
cousin of the bridegroom.
Mr. Carr gave his daughter in
marriage. She wore a navy blue
suit of linen with white acces
sories and her corsage was of
golden colored, carnations.
The maid of honor wore a
brown linen suit, her accessories
also were white and her corsage
matched that carried by the
bride. ,
Baskets of white stock ar
ranged with candles provided
the wedding background.
The reception was held at the
home of the bride. Rooms about
the home were decorated with
white stock and yellow jasmine.
Refreshments were served.
The couple made a wedding
trip to Portland and other north
ern Oregon points.
Here especially for the wed
ding were the bridegroom'i par
ents and an aunt of the bride-'
groom, Mrs. Lena Cogins, of
Hoquiam, Wash.
Rebekahs Plan
Guest Dinner on .
Monday Evening
Olive Rebekahs have planned
a guest dinner and each member
is i to invite a guest who will
be a prospective member of
the lodge. The dinner is set for
Monday, February 21, at 6:30
p.m. and will be a covered dish
event.
Rebekahs from other lodges
visiting in the vicinity also are
invited to attend.
Mrs. L. M. Hamilton and her
committee will be in charge of
the dinner. A brief program will
be held after the lodge meeting.
The business session will begin
at 8 p.m.

Nursing School .
Miss Betty Jean Acker, daugh

arrive home today from Port
land where Friday she was grad
uated from the University of
Oregon school of nursing.
Miss Acker has accepted a
position as a surgical nurse at
Sacred Heart hospital and plans
to begin work there March 1.
She is 1850 graduate of Med
f ord Senior high school and also
attend Southern Oregon college.

Held in Portland Church
Of interest here is news of the wedding of Miss Evelyn Lucille
Clay, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Loyd J. Clay, 709 Melrose avenue,
to Richard M. Strellman, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank E. Strellman,
Oswego, Ore. The wedding ceremony took place Saturday, Febru
ary 5, in Hinson Memorial Baptist church, Portland, withDr.

The newlyweds traveled to
Carmel and La Jolla, Calif., for
a honeymoon and are living in
Portland.
For the rites the bride wore a
gown of lace and tulle with al
ternating tiers of the two ma
terials in the bouffant skirt
which ended in a chapel train.
The bodice was lace appliqued
on tulle. The bride's veil fell
from a Juliet cap of lace and she
carried a cascade of gardenias.
She was given in marriage by
her father.
Miss Joan Crumley, classmate
of the Jjride, was maid-of-honor
and other attendants were Mrs.
Roger Weddell, Seattle, sister of
the bridegroom, and Miss Ro-
wena Funston, Medford, cousin
of the bride. They wore frocks
of American beauty taffeta 'de
signed with closer-fitting bodices
and bouffant skits. Miss Crum
ley carried an arm bouquet of
candy - stick carnations, while
Mrs. Weddell and Miss Funston
carried arm bouquets of white
carnations.
William Clibborn was best
man for the bridegroom and
ushers were Maurice Edwards,
Robert Radmacher, Norman
Griffith and George Johnstone,
all Portland.
Mrs. Arthur L. Clay, Medford,
sister-in-law of the bride, sang
for the wedding.
A heart-shaped arch of green
ery and flowers arranged with
candelabra provided a setting
for the weddin'g party and the
pews were decorated with
flowers and ribbon.
About 150 guests attended the
wedding and the reception which
followed in the church parlors.
Mrs. Glen Paine, Mrs. William
Logan and Miss Olson cut and
served the wedding cake, Mrs

the bride's mother wore a long
gown of soft grey with pink ac
cessories and a corsage of rose
colored roses. The bridegroom's
mother wore a gown of blue
taffeta with white accessories
and her corsage was also of roses.
Reception music was provided
by Miss Eleanor Wolfe, violinist,
and Miss Rosie Blickenstaff, pi
anist. The bride, a registered nurse,
is a graduate of the University
of Oregon medical school of
nursing and is on the staff of
Good Samaritan hospital, Port
land. The bridegroom, a gradu
ate of Willamette university, is a
wholesale jeweler.
90th Birthday

Wilbur Miller, 145 South Oak
dale avenue, celebrated his 90th
birthday Tuesday with a small
party at his home. Here for the
occasion was his daughter, Mrs.
Edna Johnson, Portland.
A birthday cake baked by
MiC Johnson was served, and
the honored man was presented
gifts and congratulatory mes
sages. Mr. Miller, a native of Mti
Verno, Ind., has lived in Med
ford for the past 15 years. He is
a half-brother of H. G. Wilson,
Medford.
Mrs. Johnson left Wednesday
for Klamath Falls where she
will visit before returning to
Portland.

James Messer at Sacred- Heart
church here. The bride is a
daughter of Charles G. Johnson
and Mrs. August Voss of Med
ford and the bridegroom is a
son of Mrs. Dorothy Messer, 422
Laurel street.
The Very Rev. Nicholas J.
Deis read the rites. About 55
guests attended.
Miss Patsy S. Smith was maid
of honor.
Neil Murphy was best man
and William Messer and Robert
Messer, brothers of the bride
groom, seated the guests.
Mr. Johnson escorted his
daughter to the altar. She wore
a white ballerina length gown
and her flowers were white
stock with red roses.
Miss Smith's gown was green
also in ballerina length, and her
flowers were gardenias.
The main altar was decorated
with white stock and organ mu
sic was furnished by Bruno
Pellegrini.
An after-communion breakfast
for the newly wedded couple
and about 20 guests was served
at the Jackson hotel. The Rev.
Deis and Miss Eva Deis were
hosts for the breakfast.
The bride attended 'Medford
Senior High school and the bride
groom attended St. Mary's
school, St. Mary's college and
Oregon State college.

rorities on campus. Miss Joyce
Bearden, daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. Percy Bearden, 25 Lozier
lane, is the new president of
Alpha Phi. Miss Kay Durno
daughter of Dr. and Mrs. E. Rj
Durno, 222 Valley View drive,
is the new president of Delta
Gamma.
Miss Bearden is a junior major
in sociology, and Miss Durno is
a junior major in education.
Both students are graduates of
Medford high school.
Women of Rotary
To Take Part in
Anniversary Event
As a part of golden anniver
sary activities in observance of
the 50th year of Rotary Inter
national the Medford club will
hold a kickoff luncheon at a reg
ular meeting Tuesday, February
22, at 12 noon in the Jackson
hotel. Women of Rotary also
will participate in the program.
Entertainment will be provid
ed by an orchestra from junior
high school directed by John
Ragsdale.
Edgar Smith, Portland, will
be the guest speaker.
About 225 persons are ex
pected to attend the luncheon.

Morning Parties
Mrs. Herbert Sampert enter
tained at two morning parties
last week, inviting friends to her
home on Renault avenue. Mrs.
Sampert served Hawaiian food
and displayed articles which the
Samperts brought home when
they returned -recently from a
winter vacation in the islands.
Later she showed colored pic
tures taken on board the Mat
son liner, Lurline, and in Ha
waii. Tuesday morning Mrs. Sam
pert's guests were wives of men
who work with Mr. Sampert at
Elk Lumber company, and Wed
nesday morning the guests were
neighbors of Mrs. Sampert

Two Anniversaries
Mr. and Mrs. A. H. Stafford,
Dunsmuir, Calif., and their son-in-law
and daughter Mr. and
Mrs. Doug Dawson, observed
their wedding anniversaries here
last week at the home of Mr.
and Mrs. Don Kahl, 529 Hamil
ton street. Mrs. Kahl, another
daughter of the Staffords, serv
ed a dinner valentine's day.
The Staffords were celebrat
ing their 35th anniversary while
the Dawsons were observing
their 10th anniversary.
Also at the event were Miss
Mildred Stafford, a sister of Mrs.
Kahl and Mrs. Dawson.
Leave
Mr. and Mrs. Paul Selby and
Mr. and Mrs. Sam Gilbert left
Saturday for a two-week trip to
Nevada and California. They
will go by way of Reno and Las
Vegas and also plan to visit at
Los Angeles.

noon. The couple made a wed
ding trip to San Francisco.
The bride is the daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Clarence I. Homes,

groom, city editor of the Ashland
Daily Tidings, is a son of Mr.
and Mrs. R o s c o e H. Anders,
Alhambra, Calif.
Mr. and Mrs. Ralph E. Leach
of Ashland were attendants for
the wedding. ,
For her wedding the bride
wore an ice blue wool gabardine
dress and Mrs. Leach was dress
ed in grey with pink accessories.
The bride is a graduate of Ash
land high school and attended
Oregon State college,' the Hart
ford Insurance school and has
been employed for several years
in the S. C. Jones and Company
offices in Medford.
The bridegroom, a graduate of
Alhambra high school, attended
University of Southern Califor
nia and received his degree at

Lt. and Mrs. Milton A. Loros
Jr., .who were married January
18 in Tucson, Ariz., are now liv
ing at Sherman, Tex., where the
officer is stationed at Perrin Air
Force base. A jet pilot in the
United States Air Force, the offi
cer will fly F-86 Sabre jet planes.
The ceremony was held at St.
Philip's of the Hills Episcopal
church. The bride is the former
Miss Mary Conn, Tucson. V
Twelve of the bridegroom's
classmates, all Air Force lieu
tenants, were present for the
wedding and served as best men,
ushers and other attendants.
Also present for the ceremony
were the bridegroom's parents,
Mr. and Mrs. Milton A. Loros,
1862 Delta Waters road, . Med
ford. They traveled to Williams
Air Force base to attend their
son's graduation exercises and
the wedding, returning to Med
ford by way of San Diego and
Los Angeles where they visited
friends and relatives. .

ored at a housewarming party
Wednesday evening when about
50 of their friends gathered at
the home as a surprise to the
couple.
Here from out of town for the
party were Mrs. Owen's parents,
Mr. and Mrs. Eall M. Benedict of
Port Angeles, Wash.; her sister,
Mrs. Chester Owen of San Bruno,
Calif., and a friend, Mrs. Wal
ter Reid, Grants Pass.
Mrs. Owen left Friday for San
Bruno accompanied by Mr. and
Mrs. Benedict. The Benedicts
had visited here for about a
week previous to the party.
