On Program Joe Bianco,
Harrisburg, Pa., newspaper re
porter, the husband of the for
mer Yvonne Gault of Medford,
will be featured on the radio
program, "The Big Story," next
week, it was learned here this
week. He won the. Pall Mall
award for his work n reporting
leads which enabled police to
arrest three murder suspects.

Two Arrested Two Ft. Lewis,
Wash., soldiers were jailed by
city police early today on va
grancy charges. They were Ed
ward Gorczyca, 21, and Otto
Overton Green, 22. Both had
been hitchhiking, police said.
They pleaded innocent to vagran
cy charges. Military authorities
have requested "holds" on the
men.

Funeral at Albany
: Funeral services for Phoebe
Ellen Burns, 90, of 609 .Cather
ine st., Medford, who died in
Ashland Tuesday, will be held
in Albany, Ore., Thursday at 2
p.m. -Interment will be in Wil
lamette Memorial park there.
Litwiller funeral home, Ashland
has charge of , local arrange
ments. The deceased was born in La
Grande, Ore., on Feb. 1, 1865,
and had been a member of the
Methodist church most of her
life.
Survivors include three
daughters, Mrs. C. O. Lovejoy,
Medford; Mrs. Edith Ashton, Al
bany, and Mrs. L. O. Hansen,
Portland; four grandchildren
and six great-grandchildren.

53, Holland hotel, is reported in
fair condition today at Sacred
Heart hospital where he was
taken Monday " afternoon by
Medford ambulance after he fell
from a pole while working for
California Oregon Power com
pany at Camp White, attendants
said today. He suffered frac
tures of both wrists, a leg frac
ture and bruises and cuts about
the face, it was reported.

that a 30 by 150 ft. area in a
vacant lot behind Highway
Lumber company, 2079 Jackson
ville highway, was burned in a
grass fire yesterday afternoon.
There was no damage reported
and the cause was undetermin
ed. A flue fire' occurred about
3:25 p.m. yesterday at the J. A.
Peacock residence, 400 North
Berkeley way. A large trash
fire in the 1500 block on Oregon
ave. was extinguished by fire
men about 12:55 a.m. today.
Still Unconscious Donna
Nelson, 408 Beatty st., is still
unconscious at Sacred Heart
hospital where she underwent
surgery Sunday after she was
seriously injured in an auto
mobile accident at the corner of
Pierce rd., and Spring st. She
suffered head injuries, 'jean
Ragsdale, 513 Palm st., in the
same accident, is reported in
good condition. . Donita Wright,
1461 East McAndrews rd., also
hospitalized soon after the acci
dent, was released Monday from
the hospital.

ter completing basic training at

rence E. Lentz, son of Mrs. Iva
Lentz, Gold Hill, has been as
signed to the 85th infantry reg
iment of the 10th infantry div
ision at Ft. Riley, Kan. CWO
Lenz first entered the Army in
1929, and, before going to Ft.
Riley, he served in the Far East
during the Korean conflict, ac
cording to a release from the
fort. He and his wife live at
Junction City, Kan. The 10th
infantry is scheduled to go to
Germany next summer under
"Operation Gyroscope," the
Army's new rotation plan. In
line with the operation the
Army is currently accepting en
listments from young men ". all
over the country who wish to
train with the 10th at Ft. Riley
and then go Europe with the div
ision for a stabilized tour,

Herman Duncan, an employee
of Jorgensen's Dairy, Medford,
won fifth place in vanilla ice
cream competition, third place
for chocolate ice cream, and

CAR HITS BIKE
Archie Loomis, 23, Rogue
River, escaped with minor in
juries when the bicycle he was
riding was hit by a car near
Rogue River on Highway 99 at
about 9:30 p.m. yesterday ac
cording to state police. Driver of
the car, Richard Elwood Stev
ens, Seattle, Wash., told officers
he was blinded by lights of an
oncoming car. He was not held.
Loomis was thrown into a ditch
and was taken to Josephine
County " hospital, Grants Pass,
for treatment, officers said.

Norcia', Italy (U.R) Italian
officials directing the search for
a Belgian airliner missing since
Sunday with 29 persons aboard
confirmed today, that planes had
sighted . wreckage on a moun
tainside. -However, fierce winds, a
blinding snowstorm and ; bad
atmospherics caused Italian au
thorities to suspend -all air
search for the missing airliner.
The Italian Air Rescue Center
announced that planes would re
sume the search as soon as fly
ing conditions improve'. ' '
: . But Italian police searching
the slopes of . the motintain on
foot reported they - were only
1240 feet from the summit with
out finding any trace of the
wreckage. ! ' :
An American Navy, pilot first
caught a . glimpse of wreckage
on 8128-foot Mt. Vettore in East
ern Italy yesterday. VT .:
. The wreckage was a four-engine
plane similar to the missing
Sabena Airlines DC6 which had
four Americans and Miss Italy
of 1953 among its 21 passengers.
