"I had to forfeit a lot of
money but I can't say how
much," admitted Betty as she
hobbled on crutches in her Bev
erly Hills home.

"The doctor told me I can
start trying to walk but I won't
be able to dance for several
weeks. The swelling has gone
but my leg still is terribly black
and blue."
, The Grable gam was hurt
when she jumped out of bed one
morning and twisted her leg be
cause her foot was asleep.
"It was very painful," she said.
"I went to the races the next
day but I was in agony. My lg
looked awful. I called the doc
tor and discovered I had rup
tured a tendon and torn a liga
ment in my foot and dislocated
my knee."
Betty usually doesn't "give
too much thought" to the legs
that have earned her a fabulous
living for a decade.
But now I'm wondering if my
left leg will look bigger from
using it more, she said. "I hope
it doesn't."
