Plan Legal Class A group of
legal secretaries, and others in
terested in leal procedures, are
attempting to organize a class in
the subject, it was reported last
week. If 12 or 15 persons are in
terested, the class will be con
ducted at the Robertson School
of Business, and those interested

Arrest Made Marvin Hamil
ton, 923 Maple st., Central Point,
was arrested Friday by city
police on a warrant for failure
to pay a. fine on a charge of
driving a motor vehicle while
under influence of intoxicating
liquor. He was released after
payment of $115. The amount
included a $5 warrant charge
and the remainder due on a $100
fine on the liquor charge and
of a separate $25 fine for oper
ating a vehicle with driver's li
cense revoked.

on the ballot for the finals. The
other two nominees were Tom
Tully, for his work in "The
Came Mutiny" and Edmond O'
Brien, who played in "The Bare
foot Contessa."

unit here, according to Lt. Col.

Fined City police said that
Allan Ira Edwards, 22, general
delivery, Ashland, was fined $50
in city court yesterday on
charges of reckless driving with
liquor involved. Officers re
ported that Edwards was arrest
ed on South Riverside ave. early
Saturday after -his car was ob
served traveling in an uncon
trolled manner.

SAILS FOR JAPAN
Billy B. Baer, a grandson of
Mr. and Mrs. F. P. Mitchell,
Gold Hill, who recently was in
Gold Hill on a three-week leave,
sailed Wednesday for Japan. He
previously served in Korea and
recently reenlisted. He attended
high school at Gold . Hill and
Central Point and served for
five years in the service before
his reenlistment. His -mother,
Mrs. Polly Archibald, lives in

ENLISTS IN ARMY
Donald Dale Hutchinson, son
of Mrs. Martha N. Sikes, route

listed in the Army corps of
engineers last week. After eight
weeks of basic training at Ft.
Ord, Calif ., Pvt. Hutchinson will
receive two" weeks, furlough,
then report to the engineers

SCHOOLS INCREASED
Sfc. Warren M. Long, in
charge of the Medford Army
recruiting, station said that the
Army has announced, under the
"reserved for you' school pro
gram, an increase in the num
ber of Army school courses to
128 in all, including almost ev
ery vocation. A few are automo
tive and airplane repair, guided
missiles, radio, photography,
stenography, medical technici
ians and public information.
Many . of the schools are also
available to young women, Ser
geant Long said. Further infor
mation may be obtained at the
local Army recruiting station in
the Post Office Wlding, Med

Aga Khan's Condition
Causes Some Anxiety
Cairo, Egypt U.R) The con
dition of the elderly Aga Kahn
"gives ground for some anxiety,"
a British doctor said Saturday.
, The physician, . Dr. Walter
Hamilton,, said the 78-year-old
Moslem religious leader under
went a cardiograph test for his
heart condition yesterday.
Hamilton examined the ailing
Aga Kahn while his own physi
cian, Dr. Jean Stehelin, flew
here fram Cannes, France.

Cancels Play Tour
Pittsburgh (U.R) Cast mem
bers of "The Caine Mutiny Court
Martial" insisted Saturday
they're still on speaking terms
with actor Paul Douglas despite
losing seven weeKs pay because
he expressed ' an uncomplimen
tary opinion about the South.
Producer Paul Gregory de
cided to end the hit show's road
tour here Saturday night after
Douglas, who plays the lead role
of Captain Queeg, was quoted at
Greensboro, N. C, as saying:
"The South stinks. Ifs a land of
sowbelly and segregation."
Douglas contended he was mis
quoted "by a guy out to grab
himself a byline." Gregory, fear
ing a "big dip" at the box office
canceled a seven-week tour of
Southern cities scheduled to start
Monday after a two-night stand
here.
Both Wendell Corey and Steve
Brodie, who play the star sup
porting roles in the production,
pooh-poohed reports that they
were feuding with Douglas and
were speaking to him only on
stage.

WHITEHEAD INFANT
Dennis Arnold Whitehead, in
fant son of Mr. and Mrs. Allen
Whitehead, 331 Mary st., died
at a local hospital Friday. The
Perl Funeral home is in charge
of arrangements.

Services for Martin B. Akins,
who died Monday at Terra Bella,
Calif., will be held in Conger
Morris chapel Monday at 1:30
p. m. with the Rev. Glen S.
Wade, of the Eagle Point Com
munity Bible church, officiating.
Interment will be in Siskiyou
Memorial park.
The deceased was born Feb.
2, 1885, in" Grayson county,
Texas, and came to the Rogue
valley in 1947 from Waterford,
Calif., having lived most of his
life in Oklahoma. On Dec. 1,
1907, in Mill Creek, Okla., he
was married to Nannie M. White,
who survives.
Other survivors include three
sons, Dolphus, Medford; Archie'
M., Terra Bella, Calif.; and Gene
A., with the If. S. Army in Ger
many; four daughters, Mrs. Viv
ian Presnal, Oildale, Calif.; Mrs.
Inez Harwell, Modesto,- Calif.;
Mrs. La Verne Meyers, Klamath
Falls, Ore.; and Mrs. Virginia
Stefanovicz, Colchester, Conn.;
19 grandchildren and . three
great-grandchildren.

with a spirited
pep assembly

The election for city officials
was completed Thursday with
Don Robinson heading the list
as mayor. Councilmen for Stu
dent Government day, Feb. 23,

Amphibious War
Training Exercise
San Francisco (U.R) The
Army and Navy will team up
next month in a large scale
amphibious warfare training ex
ercise -from one end of the Pa
cific coast to the other and! back
again.
Labeled "surf board," the ex
ercise will feature an assault
landing on California beaches
near Hunter Ligget military res
ervation by 6,000 men of the
38th regimental combat team
from Fort Lewis, Wash. .
Starts March 6 .
The combat team will leave
Fort Lewis aboard navy craft
beginning March 6 for , San
Clemente . island off southern
California where a live,, demon
stration of naval firepower and
Army artillery will be staged
to show troops the actual cover
ing fire' that would be available
in an assault landing.
From San Clemente island the
troops will be transported to the
beaches near Hunter Liggett
where they will storm ashore
and make a simulated attack on
an "aggressor" guided missile
launching and storage depot lo
cated undergrounds
The 38th will push inland
over a newly-built 30-mile mil
itary road, locate the dump and
"destroy" it, and then withdraw
to the ships. .
